Glenn Beck’s mention that he saw Jerry Falwell prompted an avalanche of people who apparently thought Beck had the sixth sense and was seeing dead people.

Those who assumed (or at least wanted everybody else to assume) that Beck was referring to Jerry Falwell Sr., who died in 2007, included tweeters from New York magazine:

The New York Times:

The New Yorker/Rolling Stone:

Business Insider (since deleted):

Huffington Post:

And others:

In reality, Beck was referring to Jerry Falwell Jr. An article about Falwell Jr. and his weight loss is here.

Doing a quick search to find out if there was in fact somebody else named “Jerry Falwell” might not have occurred to some “real reporters.

However, some couldn’t care less.

Love it when the left school yard bloggers (just can’t call them journalists) show their “real” intelligence!! No wonder they think the 44th is the smartest person in the room………….compared to them, he is.

why is it that when the internet has made it easier than any other time in history to investigate something, our “reporters” have decided to give up investigating all together?

    • Discochip

Because they are only interested in serving Obama and homosexuals and making them appear to be normal. Scientists have proven that Liberals have a defective gene, and besides, Liberal women are ugly and they are angry at the world and especially angry at beautiful Conservative women who love their families and who regard Matrimony as a sacrament and plan on staying married “till death do they part”. Reporters consider themselves journalists because they write critical articles of Conservatives and consider them all to be “holier than thou” when a Conservative adopts a pro-life stance. Liberal journalists will never investigate the correlation between abortion and breast cancer which shows a higher incidence of breast cancer in women who have had abortions than the general population: Certain indeterminate cells in pregnant women will be turned into milk producing cells later on in the pregnancy and when the pregnancy is terminate these cells still remain in a woman’s breast and sometimes turn malignant. If you point this FACT out to a Liberal woman she will go ballistic, call you judgmental, and then will INSIST that you are stating that EVERY woman who gets breast cancer has had an abortion, which is not the case at all. The area of the globe that has the highest incidents of breast cancer is in the home of Liberalism, that would be the UK, and in the south of London. That is also the location of where the greatest number of abortions take place.
As for Obama, the Lib media keeps referring to him as the first African-American President when in fact he is the first mulatto President, the definition being the offspring of one white parent and one black president. Hence that makes them racist against mulattoes. If you pointed that out, Libs would go ballistic even though you are simply stating a fact and they would accuse you of being racist.
Lastly, it’s a widely known fact that Obama is a homosexual and all of his legislation is aimed at making homosexuals “feel good about being homosexual”. Hence he instituted the first homosexual military monthly magazine and has just recently required Marines to start wearing a gender-neutral hat. Journalists go ballistic and call you a homophobe if you point out that if EVERYONE were homosexual then the human race would cease to exists, hence it is illogical. Homosexual also have a defective gene in their brain but if you point that out to journalists they go ballistic.

Amen, but you might want to edit the part I just bolded. Liberals are confused enough on issues of racial and sexual identity without us inadvertently adding to that confusion.

Think about it, though– if dad is dead, wouldn’t a son, previously known as John Doe Jr., simply be “John Doe,” with there no longer being a need to distinguish them? DUH!

(Which brings me to one of my pet peeves– why do announcers of NASCAR races refer to “Earnhardt Jr” during the call of the race? He’s “Dale Jr, ” to avoid confusion, OK there, but what would you call him if you ever met him– “Hello, Mr Earnhardt,” right? Not, “Hello, Mr Earnhardt Jr”, 4fuxsake!)

    • Guest

I think the answer why Earnhardt is still referred to as Dale Jr. or Earnhardt Jr. by NASCAR announcers is threefold.

First, I think it’s a time factor deal. He’s been called “Junior” for a long time such as (Robert Glenn) “Junior” Johnson or Sammy Davis Jr.

This is the reason why I named MY son TJ II (2nd) instead of “Junior”. I didn’t want people calling him “Junior” for the rest of his life.

Funny thing about that is that most people get confused by the II’s instead of “Junior” and confuse us for each other and leave the II out or include it (we also have the same BDA exactly 20 years apart) so we’ve gotten out of trouble more than a few times…..

Second, is almost the same as the first. Darrel Waltrip keeps calling him by the nickname “June Bug”. That stuff sticks with a person.

Third, Dale Sr., the “Intimidator”, tied “The King” with 7 Cup titles (the old points system) and is NASCAR royalty. At this point in his career, I can’t see him (Jr) coming anywhere near Dale Sr.’s success. Besides, “June Bug” and “The Intimidator” ??? Really ?

As a funny aside, my son shares my nickname, “Crash”, but for different reasons. I pulled my parent’s car out of “PARK” when I was a toddler and smashed into another car. He kept smashing his head into stationary objects that required multiple trips to the ER for stiches. Thankfully, he grew out of that !

It’s been a running joke (mostly by my younger sister…just to annoy me) in my family except for lately. I sometimes call my grand-daughter by my daughter’s name and just call her daughter “Junior” because I put the “Parent’s Curse” on her…..I hope that your kids grow up (and give you carp) just like you !

      • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

What I mean is that they’ll mention, for example, who’s going into the pits this time by, saying, “The leaders– Johnson, Stewart and Earnhardt Jr– are staying out…” My point was, oh, you can call him “Dale Jr,” or you can call him “Earnhardt,” but ya doesn’t hazta call him “Earnhardt Jr”!

(And if you get that reference, you get the official Guy Faux “Firecracker 500” paint job on your street ride…)

        • mdtljt

You can call me Ray… thanks for that blast from the past!!!

    • TN05

Dale Earnhardt is Dale Earnhardt – he never liked ‘Sr.’. So media calls his son ‘Earnhardt Jr.’, probably to respect the dead.

      • Chrissy the Hyphenated

Some things are just long-standing customs. It makes even less sense that the standard pronunciation for Richard Wagner is to use the Engish RICH erd with the German VOG ner. KWIM?

    • Chrissy the Hyphenated

My fil refused to drop the Junior when his dad died. My dh is The Third. People would call the house and ask for David Junior and we’d have no idea if they wanted the one whose name was David Junior or the one who was the junior of the two Davids.

      • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

That’s why “Thirds” are usually known as “Trey” or “Trip” or something like that. As for me, I’d never name a kid “III” (I can’t, as I’m not a “Jr” or “II” [“Chip” or “Skip”])– I’d hate myself if kids called him “Guy The Turd”!

But the confusion isn’t just about “same name,” sometimes; when I was in my late teens early 20’s and going to school, still living at home, I’d get calls for “Mr Faux”– “Speaking.” (I would be expecting calls)– “Well, Mr Faux, yaddada yaddadee…” “Excuse me, I believe you want to speak to Mr [Dad’s name] Faux…”

    • The Monster

I want to know why Robert Griffin III has “GRIFFIN III” on the back of his jerseys, (same thing with Roy Helu Jr., etc.).

Unless your father plays for the same team as you do at the same time, you don’t need that Jr/III/IV stuff. And I don’t believe Robert Griffin, Jr. plays for the Redskins. So lose the III already. It’s not part of your surname.

Who has time for four seconds of basic research when the ideological adversary must be slayed? Facts? Due Diligence? “Real Journalists” (h/t Juan Williams) can’t be bothered with such trivialities.

And here I was wondering who was dumb enough to still believe Obama’s “If you like your plan…” bulls***. Why, it’s the people who can’t grasp the possibility of someone having the same name as someone else.

So, were these rubes dumb enough to think George Bush was both the 41st and 43rd presidents? Rhetorical question, of course.

I used to think that Glenn Beck was “out there”. I was one of those people that would be like – “I am a conservative but I am not like Glenn Beck or anything.”

I really did not know who Glenn Beck was-I thought I knew

I caught his radio show one morning a while back and I am hooked- I rarely miss it. He is a generous, brilliant and hilarious man!
