CBS’ “60 Minutes” did a somewhat in-depth piece tonight about the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

“60 Minutes” published many tweets with details of the report. Much of the information is already known to those who have closely followed this story, but the report yet again confirms there were many unheeded warnings:

CBS News’ Sharyl Attkisson adds this additional warning that should have been clear to anybody who chose to pay attention:

Will Hillary Clinton ever be directly questioned about lying to the faces of some family members by blaming the YouTube video for the attack?

https://twitter.com/MichaelKaspshak/status/394611630450802688

Others, though perhaps appreciating any effort to get the truth about Benghazi out to the public, wondered why the MSM has been taking so long:

https://twitter.com/johnsoconnor/status/394603785638510592

The “60 Minutes” report left too many unanswered questions on the table, and people in positions of responsibility went curiously unscrutinized:

Will there be a follow up story on the subsequent lies peddled by the Obama administration? We’ll see, but we’re not holding our breath.

Update:

  • Thomas, Snarkmaster General

At this rate, “60 Minutes” will be able to get to the bottom of the Benghazi scandal in…60 Years.

    • colonialmarine

For the KneePadMedia, it’s on to Killary’s new camapign slogan “Keep Going !!!”, designed to dovetail easily into the “FORWARD” bleatings of the 2012 proglodytes.

      • Vennoye

One thing for sure….we won’t see another campaign slogan about answering a 3:00 am phone call. We saw exactly how each of them handled that phone call when it didn’t even come at 3:00 am.
Not only could neither of them handle it alone….they couldn’t even handle it together!!

        • Worship Dancer

oh no we DEFINITELY need to see another answering a 3:00 am phone call – but one from the conservative side – showing how SHE did NOT respond – answered the phone but hung up and took phone off hook so as not to be disturbed.

          • Vennoye

            Agree!!

        • Pat Arnold

I for one am certain there was a phone call or two – but the calls were to frantically discuss how the coverup was going to go. This administration has done nothing but lie since the very beginning. How sad and tragic this story is – but alas it is far from the only scandal resulting in death that this admin has been responsible for

          • Vennoye

Know that this administration is taking on shades of the Clinton’s removal of enemies…….BUT there is something about the betrayal of our military….who we have put in harm’s way…that is just beyond the pale!!

        • http://www.traveLightgame.com/ ljcarolyne

Perfect explanation of a Regime that bamboozled those four men in Benghazi, leaving them helpless.
Why is 60 minutes even wasting our time on this cover up? CBS is a POS, as well. . .IT IS WRITTEN. . .
BE SURE YOUR SINS WILL FIND YOU OUT.

          • Vennoye

Yes, we seem to be seeing a lot of revelation of things people would like to keep concealed.

          • Worship Dancer

because they’re trying to deflect all blame back onto obama – it’s hitlary’s turn but this could end her chances in 2016 – gotta make sure everyone thinks it was only obama and all those evil military generals that he fired.

Meanwhile the rest of us keep being forced to Lean Forward:

      • lewrod

I thought it was “Bend over, I’ll drive!”

    • dwsmokin

Oh, I’m sure this will go the way of all the other investigations. Endless hearings, sound bites, and a few titillating headlines, but they won’t allow anything to come out that could put a damper on her 2016 Presidential aspirations. The fact that the she couldn’t run the State Dept. would hamper her claims to be able to run a country. Of course, she could always run as an improvement over what we currently have-not much of an improvement, but…

      • Elaine

It still really bothers me that they all said there was no time to get help to those in Benghazi. How could they possibly have known that at the time of the attack? Why make a decision not to send help and tell those on site to stand down? They had no idea who was dead or alive or how long the terrorists would be attacking and fighting. They also knew there were many more at the CIA compound. Why not send help ASAP? I just don’t get that.

        • nc ✓s & balances

Since when did it become our policy to leave them on their own? Who made that decision?

          • Worship Dancer

obama with lots of help from panetta, jarrett, clinton

          • Pat Arnold

Rumor had it at the time that Jarrett talked Obama out of doing anything due to how bad it would look for Obama if the rescue failed. All about the ‘one’ and screw the ‘all’

          • Worship Dancer

no doubt she also mentioned that MB would NOT look kindly upon him for “interfering with the eradication of the infidel infestation”.

        • QWYS (Hydralisk of the Swarm)

There was plenty of time to get them help, from sources internal and external to Libya. A decision was made to not help them.

The theories as to why this decision was made are variations of incompetence to conspiracy. I do not believe that the reasons are important at this point, only the fact that no help was forthcoming is important.

          • conservativechick

When they all kept saying, Generals included, that there would NOT have been enough time to get help there, HOW COULD THEY EVEN KNOW THAT? No one asked that question. Still bugs me!

          • Ken Alan Draper

the commanding officers of the forces in the area were both detained & relieved of command for not heeding the stand down order, A navy carrier air wing was halfway to benghazi when the Battlegroup admiral was detained & relieved of duty. his second in command was ordered to recall the airwing.

          • alphinostrum

The last time a flag officer was relieved on station was Gen. Douglas MacArthur!

          • Steve in Katy

@Ken, are you positive about this? Why hasn’t that become front and center news?

          • QWYS (Hydralisk of the Swarm)

The generals said what they said because to do anything else would have considered insubordination by The Hindmost and would have ended their careers. The Hindmost has been weeding out the conservatives from the ranks of officers that progress past the rank of Major.

We fight on for a cause in battle that has already been lost. We , those people that love this country not for what she can become, but what she has been, have grossly underestimated the Comintern, as well as the interplay between the tyranny of the disciples of Marx and the tyranny of the disciples of Mohammed.

In the words of Patrick Henry, “Give me liberty, or give me death.” We fight on, because to do less would dishonor ourselves, or families, those that came before us and most importantly our God.

        • Worship Dancer

panetta is a dipshit from the word go. trust me there was PLENTY of time – fighters in italy, marines in tripoli, bullshit no time to get troops there. could have had major help there in 45 minutes.

          • Ken Alan Draper

            Carrier Battlegroup in the med.

          • Worship Dancer

panetta needs to be drawn and quartered just for lying about there not being enough time to get help there. crap they had time to get unarmed drones there – they ALL need to be in jail. dirtbags.

      • lewrod

Since any of us who have disagreed with Obama’s disastrous policies are branded as racists, why would any of us vote for Hillary? We’d then have to put up with being called sexists as well.

    • Abu Nudnik

They’ll have to wait for Chelsea to have her two terms as president.

  • 0bamasnought

Hilary best get used to this issue dogging her.
Hopefully for the rest of her life.

    • Republicanvet

Probably not. Timing is everything in politics. I see 60 Minutes doing this now since they have to get it out of the way at some point, and when Hillary is anointed, many of the leftist media can suggest we just MoveOn because the issue has already been covered.
Pathetic, but that is the way they play games, without regard to the dead or who might be destroyed or what the truth is.

Should she be dogged for it? Absolutely. Right into prison, but it will never happen. The GOP does not have the guts to do the right thing in this and many other instances.

      • trixiewoobeans

My thoughts exactly. I suspected it wasn’t in the interest of actual journalism, and certainly not out of respect and concern for the victims…no, it was to try and get this campaign albatross out of the way for Hilly. I loathe today’s “media.”

These men died in a horrible terrorist attack.

Honor the memories of these fallen men by ending the dumb partisan attacks on Clinton and Obama.

    • Acethepug

      Keep spinning that narrative!

Yeah, dumb partisan attacks, like Obama whining about the 1st Amendment in front of the UN 3 WEEKS after the attack.

Let’s honor the fallen by incarcerating the craven, lying political hacks who sat back and did nothing.

But it’s all partisan, MJ. Keep spinning, and keep ignoring those pesky facts!

      • Matt

“Let’s honor the fallen by incarcerating the craven, lying political hacks who sat back and did nothing.”

So, we arrest people who did nothing?

Or we can hunt down the real criminals and terrorists who did this act.

        • jade

you realize they did arrest someone who did nothing, right? They blamed the filmmaker for this.

          • Ronald

They didn’t arrest him for the video.

          • jade

Oh, but they created an ad campaign in Pakistan over it, and the narrative was run that this was allllll due to the video–just ask Hillary, she was all for it. How awesome it was that this guy just happened to be the fall guy on a technicality.

          • Steve in Katy

They used the photo op of the swat team arresting him. He was a marked man by the administration.

        • mike_in_kosovo

“So, we arrest people who did nothing?”

You forgot to add “and left our people to die” – I’m sure it was just a simple oversight.

        • BAW

So 22 USC § 4865 – Security requirements for United
States diplomatic facilities and the SECCA established
statutory security requirements for U.S. diplomatic. facilities are just more laws and rules the Obama administration can ignore and no one cares? If someone you loved died because they ignored requirements that had proven effective for decades but they decided in their infinite wisdom to just do it their way, would you care then? Even if it were you, I’d still care. What’s to prevent other administrations to send American diplomats into war torn areas without the proper precautions and security? How long do you think American diplomats will continue to serve our nation under those conditions? Knowing that if they are attacked, they’re on their own?

        • ObamaFail

So we shouldn’t arrest any politician who tried to help cover up the terror attack, but you think it’s okay that Obama had an innocent man arrested to push the phony narrative that it was a riot caused by a Youtube video. Give me a break.

        • mbs235

It was their job to do something. For political reasons, they let those men die. They refused to beef up security for political reasons, they did not send help for political reasons, they lied about why the attack occurred for political reasons. Yes, they should be arrested.

          • nc ✓s & balances

And not just any ol’ political reason, but to dupe LIVs into reelecting the President. We should just let that go?

        • tops116 ✓Quipper

“So, we arrest people who did nothing?”

Paging Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. Paging Nakoula Basseley Nakoula.

Like you libs would be dropping it if this had happened under Bush. Those men only died because they were denied help, and Hillary denied multiple requests for added security. Considering there are still partisan attacks on Bush nearly half a decade after he left office, I don’t think you have the room to demand we drop it.

    • ByondPolitics

Dumb partisan attacks didn’t kill them. BO’s craven indifference to them did.

    • ObamaFail

The hearings would amount to something if the administration hadn’t have stonewalled them every step of the way. Don’t you find it odd that many people have been intimidated into silence? Some of the survivors were forced to sign agreements that banned them from speaking to Congress. Does that sound like there’s nothing to this? Here, how about you pretend it’s a Republican who would take the fall for it. Maybe then you libs would actually care about it.

    • drw

“These men died in a horrible terrorist attack.”
The part you left out actually, the most important part is that this attack was known to be imminent and was therefore preventable. At the very least we should have increased security/readiness and attempted to get our people to safety before the 11th of September. How, exactly, is it “honoring” the memories of those left to die when we fail to hold those who allowed them to die horribly accountable? How can anyone possibly justify to themselves the absolute criminal incompetence of this administration and their state department. “What difference, at this point, does it make?” It makes one great big huge fucking difference to me and, I suspect, to a large segment of the citizens of this country.

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

I wasn’t aware that demanding accountability was the equivalent of “dumb partisan attacks.” But then, I previously wasn’t aware that politicians could be so stupid as to blame a terrorist attack on a YouTube video and yet…

Tell me, when soldiers were getting killed in Iraq under Bush’s watch, were you advocating a non-partisan dialogue on the subject or were you–like oh so many liberals–trying to score points off corpses? Funny how liberals only see the value in letting the dead rest in peace when a Democrat is in the White House. Of course, by the same token, they’re quick to disregard the feelings of the grieving families when a Democrat is in the White House. Just ask Pat Smith, or is she engaging in “dumb partisan attacks.”

The hell I have in mind wouldn’t be harsh enough. Four in Bengalzi died. There’s four in Os family and four in Hills family counting son in law. All 8 of them wouldn’t make up for the lives they turned their backs on that fateful nighTt but it would be a good start. I am sick of these people living above the law and not being held accountable.

      • Ronald

“..but it would be a good start” That is sick and twisted, not to mention a utterly immoral and unethical statement on your part.

        • battue_you

Ronald, you are absolutely right to say what you did about my comment. The facetiousness(just made up a new word here) is lost on you. To paraphrase Shillary, at this point, what difference does it make?
We’ve got 3 more years of the big 0 in the white house. By the time he’s done, who knows what America’s standing will be in the world and if we’ll even have an economy left to save at home.

Shillary will never be held accountable. No one in this administration EVER is, and no one in the media ever calls democrats out for anything and even if they did, low info voters wouldn’t care as long as they still got their obamaphone.

Keep in mind that 4 died, but about 40 were left to die. If not for the “insubordination” of Woods and Doherty, there would have been even more American blood on the ground.

If the others weren’t in fear for their careers and possibly lives, we would know more about what happened that night. And by “night” I mean in Benghazi. It was a Tuesday afternoon, work day in D.C.

    • Republicanvet

A work day in DC…when people should have been paying attention, but are somehow claiming they may not have been paying close enough attention, to send a rescue.

    • BAW

Good point about all those that were left to die. It’s why I found it so appropriate that in his special report Bret Baier said it turned into a “modern day Alamo.”

But also always note that part of the reason the Americans in Lybia survived was the help “they” were able to get from the Libyans in Benghazi and Tripoli.. All the more reason it was so offensive for Susan Rice in a national TV interview to dispute the Libyan President when he said it was a pre-planned attack. And why Libyan authorities wouldn’t allow the FBI access immediately after the attack. The Americans in Benghazi and Tripoli did an amazing thing to limit the casualties to 4 which is just a further indictment of the Obama administration. And why I believe the truth will eventually come out. I’m wondering if there is something new to be added soon and that’s why there’s this little bit of truth telling going on.

    • nc ✓s & balances

That was one of the most powerful and chilling moments of the piece – and there were several – when Hicks said he was told no help was coming. Even Logan looked incredulous at that. Hicks has been stellar through this whole ordeal.

I know we haven’t heard, until now, from “the survivors” but this British guy has written a book? Is this making any sense?

Also, who was the American officer who knew the attack was imminent? Why are we only just now hearing from him, or am I the only one who missed him?

    • Worship Dancer

i doubt it’s their careers. it’s probably more likely they are in fear for their FAMILIES lives. would YOU risk your daughter, son, parents being tortured and murdered? most people wouldn’t.

  • R.C.

Wonder how long it took for the msm to investigate Club Gitmo underwear scandal?

  • NixTyranny

Just how complete is a report that totally leaves out the two central characters, namely King Barack & Benghazi Hillary?

    • BAW

It was a short piece so of course it left out a lot of things but I’m still amazed that it reported what it did. It made it clear that the attack was planned and lots of people, including the administration knew about the danger. It reported the attack on the Red Cross and the British (didn’t mention they pulled out) and one guy (Woods I think) said, “We had one option, leave Benghazi or you will be killed.” That’s a more blatant condemnation of the administration’s handling of Benghazi than I’ve ever heard from the MSM before.

      • NixTyranny

So how hard would it have been for a “Full Monty” report by mentioning that King Barack & Benghazi Hillary had ignored such blatant warning signs? And then raise the question as to why did they?

        • BAW

I was so surprised to see anything about Benghazi on 60 Minutes, especially accurate reporting, if they’d also been honest about what Obama and Clinton did and didn’t do, i would have been more shocked than if all the old guys on 60 Minutes had done a “Full Monty.”

Sad that I no longer even hope for accurate news reporting much less expect it. Surprised if they even do a little. It is not a fault of mine, it’s just acknowleding the facts and reality I’ve seen for decades.

        • BAW

There’s a Blaze headline: ’60 MINUTES’ BENGHAZI REPORT BLAMES WHITE HOUSE

Looks like you and I disagree with that assessment. While “blame” was implied and obvious it was not actually part of the report.

Of course, they are not wrong to infer blame from the facts reported, that it was a “planned sophisticated” attack on a “barely protected American compound.”

But it’s a bad joke to act like the press is ever that subtle with blame when it’s someone they don’t like.

  • cherie bone

I haven’t seen the 60 Minutes episode yet, but I want to know about the OTHER video:
We know that the POTUS and SoS knew that the attack was not about an anti-Islamic video, but we don’t know why they made a “We’re Sorry For That anti-Islamic Video” video anyway.
I can’t understand why no one is asking.

    • pinkelephant22

Or spent taxpayer money selling that lie on foreign TV spots…

    • drw

      One of three reasons;
      1) If you tell a bold enough lie and repeat it often enough eventually people will believe it to be truth.
      2) The liberal mantra “Lie, Obfuscate, Misdirect, Never let a good crisis go to waste.”
      3) There was a presidential election just around the corner.
Take your pick (up to 3 or more) I’m quite certain there are more possibilities and am just as certain that they are no more justifiable than those listed.

I’d like to know how the US military can declare they didn’t attempt rescue because they couldn’t get there in time when there is no way at the start of an attack to know how long it will last…
unless one is complicit in the attack.

  • BAW

I haven’t watched 60 minutes in years but realized this was on and watched it all. Totally shocked that what they reported they got right. Can’t help but wonder why.

If this is the standard Clinton, get the bad stuff out there, get past it and later claim it’s old news – I don’t think it will work with Benghazi.

Even this report made it clear that the danger was well known and nothing was done before or during the attack to protect American lives.

Benghazi is far more serious than Whitewater or bimbo eruptions or TravelGate or even Vince Foster.

Kudos to 60 Minutes for the reporting, however, why is it over a year later when Benghazi is further from many people’s minds & even mocked now by some? Why wasn’t this during the investigations & hearings?

I can’t help but see a preliminary, “We’re credible … we even reported on Benghazi” effort.

    • ObamaFail

They know that it’s too late for it to do anything to Obama or anything to Hillary’s Presidential chances. So now that no one will ever be held accountable, they know it’s okay to report on it.

  • APW

Now that 60 Minutes, that most liberal of news magazines, has divulged some truth, the rest of the main stream media cannot ignore it. Never mind that Fox News has reported on this for more than a year or that the republicans have tried to uncover the truth. It does no good to rail against the injustice of it all. What matters is that the country wakes up and recognizes that Obama is inept and that Hilary is exposed once and for all as a pathological liar. Obama is entering the lame duck phase–as soon as everyone gets their own personal sticker shock for insurance, the country will cease to be ruled by him. After that, Hilary must be hammered again and again. She is not qualified and must be stopped.

  • 912er

Sadly Lara’s report had little that I didn’t already Know…I imagine CBS kept a close eye on what she was presenting…..Still though,It was shown on CBS so a lot of know nothings might have learned something…I don’t expect so though.

  • ObamaFail

If this had happened under Bush, not only would he have been impeached or been forced to resign before the election, but his Secretary of State would have been immediately forced to step down and would never have a snowballs chance of winning another political office. But since it was Obama, the lamestream media waits a year to report most of the facts (some spent the year calling it a phony scandal), and Obama is still in office and libs are yelling “Hillary 2016!!” Like Hillary deserves to even still be free after Benghazi.

  • MNWoman

I wonder how serious people are about Hilary running. It just seems like even with the lapdog media’s help, this would be hard for her to overcome.

Between that “who would you rather answer the phone at 3 AM” ad during the 2008 primaries her “what difference does it make” quote, there plenty campaign ads that are ready written.

I am just throwing out the possibility that the DNC is hoping to get the RNC/GOP to plan a campaign during the next few years specifically to run against Hilary while the DNC works to find a less controversial candidate.

    • QWYS (Hydralisk of the Swarm)

To the staunch democrat voter, Hillary is not controversial. If the media is in for a penny with The Hindmost, they will be in for a dollar with Hillary.

I do not believe that the GOP will be able to field a candidate that can not be sabotaged by a propaganda campaign from the left.

But then again I am not convinced we will ever have free, honest elections ever again in this country.

  • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

Yeah, this might shed some light of why the story seems watered down. Also I wonder if the parents of those killed were considered too ‘politically biased’ to be interviewed:

  • MNWoman

Let’s see…NIxon lied about Watergate and America demanded he be impeached. Obama/Hilary/the MSM/Suasn Rice/Jay Carney et al. lied about a serious national security matter (to which we still do not know where Obama when the White House was told the consualte was under attack and Obama gets re-elected with the help of the MSM.

Strange world we live in, no?

    • ObamaFail

Hillary said, “What difference does it make” showing that she doesn’t care about those men dying, and the libs start chanting “Hillary 2016!!” Like we really need another terrorist sympathizer in the White House.

    • lee owens

Nixon was going to b thrown under the bus because republicans turned on him..that’s the difference. Dems will stand behind their man till the end no matter what.

  • Republicanvet

This is nothing more than 60 Minutes having the ability to claim they covered the issue, so it can long be forgotten by the media, before Hillary runs in 2016.

  • ObamaFail

It can’t be ignored that Obama and Hillary lied and tried to cover up a terrorist attack. They claimed it had something to do with a Youtube video, and Obama even said stuff about not letting people get away with insulting Islam. They arrested an innocent man and used him as the scapegoat to push the false narrative about a protest gone wrong caused by said video. If the Libyan President or ruler or whatever he calls himself hadn’t have started pointing out that they knew it was a terrorist attack from the get-go, Obama and Hillary would still be pushing the false “it wasn’t terrorism” talking points to this day.

So libs, don’t pretend Obama and Hillary are innocent in this. Hillary denied requests to beef up security, and a stand down order was issued to prevent anyone from going to save the 4 men. And the false “there wasn’t enough time” BS needs to stop. The attack lasted 7 hours, there was a based 4 hours away where they could have gotten guys there, even if it was too late, some kind of effort to save them would have been nice.

It also has to be pointed out that Hillary stood by the caskets of those 4 men and lied right to their families faces that this wasn’t terrorism, and they refuse to meet with the families about why they lied after it came out that it was in fact terrorism. A Republican would have already been impeached. Nixon was forced to resign because of a break-in at an office. Way I see it (and also anyone with a brain would see it), aiding terrorism (trying to cover up the act of terror is aiding terrorism) is far worse than orchestrating a break-in to steal documents.

  • Squirrel!

So we have a main planner of the attack being someone who was released from Guantanamo; the main Al Qaeda guy (Al Libi) in Libya has been picked up/arrested, and we’re giving him a trial, along with providing him with counsel, as we would any American citizen; and our gov’t says they’re still looking for the perpetrators of this attack except that they’ve (some?) been observed by the FBI and interviewed by a news organization. Oh, and we’re arming Al Qaeda in Syria. Where did the attackers get the mortar rounds?

  • nc ✓s & balances

I just watched the whole report and it fried me that they opened with a crack about how it’s been subject to “partisan bickering” (what, one side was interested in the truth and the other side in lies and cover ups?) and closed with they’d “been working on the story for a year.” Really?

But truly the worst was the complete omission of Obama and Hillary and the video lie. Shame!

It’s too bad, because I think Lara Logan did an otherwise good job, and that British fellow she interviewed, along with Hicks and the American officer (don’t remember his name) were very sincere and heartbreaking.

    • Squirrel!

Read the link Ben posted several comments up ^^
It may shed some light on why it took so long, but what I’m interested in is what they left “on the floor” due to being unsubstantiated and/or what they felt was partisan. I do think journalists/reporters are mostly biased but if they want to do real journalism with this admin in place, they better have big baalls and their own house in order because some alphabet agency or other will be sicced on them.

  • HanaFiveO

Way to go 60 minutes. Report on the Benghazi failure “faux scandal” and blow it wide open for the mainstream idiots without ever laying the blame in the laps of the two individuals directly responsible…Obama and Clinton.
    I am truly amazed.

  • kim

but I thought this was one of those faux scandals?

  • kim

partisan bickering? Is that what media calls it when Dems investigate what Repub administrations are doing?
Or is that just reserved for republicans when they want answers?

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

Does that mean a year from now, CBS will be doing an in-depth Obamacare report? Oh right, next year is an election year. They’ll probably put it off until 2015.

0’Commie needs to resign, just like his pantsuit did! And they all need to go home and leave the rest of America and the world alone. Yet, no they won’t do that, they are addicted, to the money, power, limo’s, healthcare and they do what Megalomaniacs do…they enjoy tormenting others because they really enjoy the ‘rich prison’ that they live in…!

    THIRTEEN AND A HALF MONTHS! It took “^60 Minutes” THAT LONG to do their “Investigative Report?” And to top it off, they left out vital information about KING FINK OBAMA and BILLARY ROTTEN’S involvement? If that were a Republican President and Secretary of State, they would be on the following Sunday, trying to indict the WHOLE ADMINISTRATION! /RANT off Jawamax 8<{D}

What difference does it make! The battle cry of Dems everywhere lives on for eternity. The sad part is that poor patsy film maker is still in jail over this. This problem is compounded by the fact that everyone in charge at the time is still employed just moved to new positions. I wish I could label this unbelievable, but I can’t.
