The looks on the faces of Will Smith’s kids says it all. A lot of people are tweeting that the performer they were watching was Lady Gaga (who you can see on the lower right of the screen), but others claim the Smiths were watching Miley Cyrus. Either way, this picture tells a story:

From the look of things, Smith was having a great time, but we can’t be certain what his kids were thinking.

  • JRu4Life

What a vile display that was. I tuned in only to see the *NSync reunion to relive my idiotic childhood and had to keep flipping away from all the disgusting crap I kept seeing. No wonder everything’s going to hell.

    • Love of Country

      But she’s an artist!

      • trixiewoobeans

When all you’ve got is shock value, the artistry is LONG gone…I’m including Miley in this too.

        • Graham Shaw

Amen, this is a real problem because it’s teaching our children (girls in particular) that the way to success is to act like a harlot no need to develop a real skill.

          • Michael Haynie

Absolutely true Graham!…..and unfortunately, men will always treat women the way they act…….

          • trixiewoobeans

Correct…and SO “anti-feminism.” I’m surprised they’re not screaming about it, but I’m sure they’re working on giving it an “empowerment” spin. Such a two-faced crowd.

        • obamaiscarter

When was Miley EVER considered an artist?

        • Neill Augustine

There is a great tweet from Martha McCallum that you should look up this morning; it deals directly with this subject.

      • GreenEyedGal

An artist of what? Crap? Lady Caca sucks. I don’t know if you’ve ever read “Atlas Shrugged” but one of the story lines is that people put out absolute garbage and all the people in the know praise it and call it wonderful, so the masses love it and call it wonderful, too. That’s the way it is with Lady Caca. Rand was prophetic.

        • Love of Country

You’re preaching to the choir, my friend.

And it just seems like with the exception of a couple guests that way too many people simply missed my sarcasm. I guess I just thought the subtly flashing ‘lol’ on Lady Gaga’s face would have perhaps spared me the need to add “/sarc” at the end of my post, no?

          • Deborah Hallsted

We were too horrified and appalled to catch the satire.

          • Love of Country

and I appreciate the feedback, Deborah Hallsted … that makes sense :)

        • readingeconomics

I never expected to see Ayn Rand mentioned here!!! SHE’S AWESOME!!!

        • tommcgtx

Do you remember a particular passage, or conversation in the book where this occurs? I remember something similar, but it’s been a while since I’ve read it.

          • GreenEyedGal

I know there were composers who composed terrible symphonies that the critics loved and amazing composers who composed outstanding symphonies the critics hated. If I remember correctly (it’s been years since I read the book) one of the talented composers didn’t release his last composition before he shrugged. It was the same way with literature. Either Dagney’s brother or Reardon’s wife was involved in some way with a reading group that celebrated the crappiest writers. And of course, all the elites wanted to be associated with the group. It’s probably been over 10 years since I last read it, so my memory may be off a bit. My book disappeared, too, but I think my boys bought one so I could borrow theirs and re-read it. But I distinctly remember this concept in the book because it was going on, to a certain extent, even back when I read it. I just think it’s even more prevalent now.

          • tommcgtx

      • John Alvarado

And the word Artist is being thrown around loosely now.

        • Love of Country

Indeed … kind of like the word “racist”.

They’re all artists and we’re all racists (yawn).

          • Not Racist

            I’m not a racist! I don’t even watch NASCAR!!!

          • Love of Country
          • Desmond Edwards

If you belong to the tea party or a radical conservative, then you probably are a racist!

          • trixiewoobeans

You’d better go alert all those black Tea Partiers and Repubs then. I guess they need YOU to tell them how wrong they are!!!!!!!

      • Jay Stevens

Yes, but is it good art?

I realize that you were engaging in not-so-thinly-veiled sarcasm.

        • IBXNJ

Kind of like putting a crucifix in urine??

      • Ken Alan Draper

really I’d like to see a few of her paintings because this madonna 2.0 thing is really not working out well.

      • Keri Green

        • Bonnie Cummings

Most of them are Illuminati devil worshippers. Look at what happened to Taylor Swift. She went from nice girl to seductress. If you see a bunch of sexual stuff then you know they are involved in the Illuminati. You would be surprised at who is into the Illuminati….I’ve been researching it for awhile now….did you know that Meryl Streep is Illuminati?

      • bluewaternavy

Jesus, I’m gonna have nightmares tonight….

      boobs were on display.

  • AlCashier

obama built this. this is on him. a degenerate nation.

    • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

It started before Obama. Mainstream music has been the same crap since the late 90s…

      • Graham Shaw

Wouldn’t go that far Rock is still doing ok. Admittedly Nirvana style bands are few and far in between but we still have Seether, Avenged Sevenfold, and Five Finger Death Punch. Who knows maybe they’ll be a Renaissance

        • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

I almost forgot about Seether (“Broken” makes me weep everytime)! I like some of Avenged Sevenfold’s stuff. Sorry, I don’t recall FFDP. Metal and post-grunge (not a huge fan of grunge either) just aren’t my cup of tea. More of a classic pop, rock, R&B guy.

Yeah, I was being a bit hyperbolic. Yes, there still talented artists out there. I just feel ever since Britney Spears and the boy bands exploded, 95% of the music in the top 100 aren’t even worth listening to.

          • Not Racist

Rock went south after Metallica. All the bands since them suck.

          • RonPaulisRight

There are a few good bands, such as Muse.

          • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

Metallica is indeed an awesome band! I don’t necessarily with ALL rock sucking after them, though.

          • John

On Sunday nights when driving home from my dad’s I put on the House of Hair show. It never fails to put a smile on my face.

          • svobodnik

There are always diamonds popping out of the sea of voices. But it takes time to find them. Also try to patronize your local bands. In Texas we have Jason Elmore & the Hoodoo Witch, Tony Vega and Mingo Fishtrap.

          • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

True that. There are many people who should be famous, but they don’t have “the look”.

        • TheRealJackpineSavage

I may be an old fart, but I LOVE all 3 of the aforementioned bands.

Avenged Sevenfold even announce at their concerts that they are politically Conservative. 5FDP are pretty conservative too.

There is a lot of crap out there but if you know where to look, you can find some real Gems in today’s music.

      • LN_Smithee

IMHO, the decline of pop music (i.e., music that is created for a large audience, regardless of genre) began with the increasing practice of sampling. People who wanted to make hit records but who hadn’t put in the work necessary to create it themselves instead borrowed artistic excellence of past years and stamped their own name on it.

Prime example: Swedish DJ Avicii and rapper Flo Rida, who have each made a mint off of a 1962 R&B song by the late Etta James, best known for the definitive version of “At Last.” They each used a sped-up snippet of her solo prelude to “Something’s Got A Hold On Me” and put their own artificial rhythms on it. You doubtless have heard either version in a TV commercial in the form of that sample, in which James sang “Ohhh, sometimes, I get a good feeling, yeah….I get a feeling that I never, ever felt before, oh, no, I get a good feeling…”

I threw in the towel on pop music four years ago after getting my first look at Lil Wayne performing without lip-syncing on Jimmy Kimmel Live. It was my first exposure to the dude who dominated the charts at the time, and I watched as a huge crowd of teenagers went insane as Wayne grabbed his crotch, and like a perverted frog with strep throat, “sang” lyrics about getting a Lewinsky from a skank he met in a club. You have to see it to believe it. Seriously.

        • Dave Monat

Let us not forget the computer correction phenomina! Many singers can’t sing for sh*t so they add the key adjustment and then lip sync all the time.

I long for the days of Karen Carpenter!!!!! <3

          • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

Karen Carpenter is probably my all-time fav female singer, too!

          • svobodnik

Please explain computer correction. I read several years ago that the Stone Temple Pilots lead singer had to have his voice “enhanced” in concert, but I don’t understand how weakness in voice can be compensated, especially in a free-form concert setting. Paul McCartney can still sing “Maybe I’m Amazed” but you hear the voice strain.

        • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

I don’t mind sampling. If it’s done well. Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy” is a great example, which heavily samples Tom Tom Club’s “Genius of Love”. She sampled the song to pop/r&b/hip-hop perfection! On the negative side, thanks to this, she inspired a legion of subpar imitators.

*sigh* Don’t get me started on Flo Rida and Lil Wanker… Don’t get their “appeal”. I guess we’re getting old!

          • san rafael blue

You almost can’t go wrong with The Tom Tom Club. I’ve liked it since what, 1981. Yikes! I’m as old as Ulyssys, where 30 years seems like 30 months!

    • LN_Smithee

C’mon, don’t wreck a welcome condemnation of trash being elevated as high art by turning it into a political argument. Obama isn’t making these artists more popular with young people, and it’s not his job to make them less popular. Let’s leave slamming him for what he’s actually done, OK?

    • Desmond Edwards

This is perhaps the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. I just lost two IQ points on this one.

  • trixiewoobeans

People keep talking about “pushing the envelope,” and I say, “what envelope? The envelope is long gone. It’s been pushed, went off the side onto the floor, and got swept up and thrown away by the janitor!” What we’re seeing now is the dregs and stooges of “entertainment.”

    • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

      Amen! What envelope?!?!

      • TheRealJackpineSavage

        …and the envelope please… :op

        Sorry, just had to

    • svobodnik

Pushing the envelope would be the speed metal groups I would see in the 1990s….playing incredibly fast! As for the sexual envelope, there’s not much left there.

  • aztectrumpet

Jaden’s look is the best. He looks disgusted. Willow just looks shocked. Will’s is hard to tell and Jada also looks shocked.

BTW. I just noticed that their daughter’s name is very close to Will’s and their son’s is very close to Jada’s.

    • lisanemo

Unfortunately that is Jaden’s normal look. However, it is a great picture of their reactions.

  • John Alvarado

The Expression on their faces is just priceless. What did they expect a clean show?

    • Bruce

You hit the nail on the head, my friend. What self-respecting parents would bring their kids to this crap in the first place? All I can say is that Will and Jada must place “face time” ahead of “family time.”

      • Jill

Considering that his children are the age of one of the most targeted demographics of MTV, it shouldn’t have to be this way. I grew up watching these award shows. I recall edginess and bombastic performances but nothing that can compare to this show.

      • radishthegreat

Their children are already working for the purveyors of that crap; they had to take the kids to the show to network with potential directors/backers.

I’m not condoning this, but that’s how it is.

        • RonPaulisRight

Perhaps they should have left their kids at home this time. It’s sick and criminal that these awards shows are targeting the teenage demographic.

        • Bruce

          Good point!

  • CJ

Jaden’s looks like..WTF? Willow’s is OMG! Will’s is What the hell is this? and jada is Holy Shit!

  • Jay Stevens

I have always tried – successfully – really hard to miss the VMA’s. (I am old enough to remember when you did not need a video to sell a song.) This year, because I am recovering from heart surgery, it was especially easy.

    • TugboatPhil

      Best wishes on your recovery!

    • John

I’ve never watched the VMA’s (I wouldn’t even know if it was on), even though when MTV first appeared my friends and I watched it religiously. That pretty much ended with the 80’s, though. It’s totally off my radar.

  • John Mullins

    Pop has eaten itself.

    • CasualMeyhem

Not for the first time, nor will this be the last.

  • Ken Alan Draper

That’s how most people react when they see Lady GaGa. I’m dubious of the whole Lady part of her name. seems like false advertising to me.

    • Jill

Perhaps it is meant to be ironic 😉

      • LisaG

Oh, the irony is there, whether intended or not.

  • Maxx

When your audience is looking at your routine as if it was the Hindenburg docking, that’s usually not a good sign.

    • conservativemomma

      Perfect analogy!

    • John

      LOL! You win the Internet!

  • Kelly

Quit buying her stuff…that is one of the biggest problems…these degenerates continue to make millions because people buy their stuff…start supporting young actors that have morality!!!

    • Rena

Who really buys Miley Cyrus music? Even my kids think she sucks…

  • CrusadaB

Reality folks. Will’s kids look scared. Let kids be kids and quit pushing this beastly conduct in the music industry.

    • RonPaulisRight

Of course they are scared! This is sick, ugly stuff that has bubbled up from the pits of hell –and no one is responsible enough to protect them against it! This is deliberate child abuse. Not an overstatement.

  • Misanthrope

What responsible parent takes kids that age to the moral wasteland that is the VMAs?

  • Randall Hodge

This is a photo definition of “WTF.” Possibly even “WTFF.”

  • loheotbu

I thought he was a Scientologist, but it sure looks like he is praying, “Deliver us from evil.”

  • lilredhairedgirl

A clown by any other name……Miley or Lady Gag-me! Seriously are WITHOUT talent or they wouldn’t need the gimmicks.

  • MichaelG23

On the way home home, I am Sure Will and his wife said, ‘And that is why you go to school and stay away from drugs. Cause you’ll look like a monkey and dance like one. Next year we go to a swamp or anywhere but there!’

  • Seeking Sanity

Im just surprised that Will Smith, who has obviously raised his kids right, didn’t try to put his hands over his kids eyes during the porn part of that show.. Who’s the woman sitting next to him? She is shocked by this display too. I hear there is a stripper bar down the street, maybe they should hold this event there next year… at least then parents will know what they are walking into & leave their kids at home..

    • John

He sort of has that, “Oh, dang, that’s nasty” look to me. I think he had a touch of deer-in-the-headlights.

  • Michael Haynie

Is there any doubt that Hollywood and most of the entertainment Industry serve a god of darkness!?……Call it art if you like, but life (society) is beginning to imitate this dark art more and more and that……is spiritually perilous….I’m not too sure that simply watching it can’t transmit STD’s or worse……I’m not taking any chances.

    – From Willow Smith’s #1 hit record, released in 2009 when she was nine years old.

From some of these posts, it looks like people confused MTV’s VMA with the Dove Awards. Wake up people.

  • Magnifico

    Is his son gay?

IF you have it you DON’T have to reveal ALL of it.. it shines through .. guess she always wanted to be a DISNEY HOOKER..

  • Bill

this pic was actually taken during Lady Gaga’s performance… his daughter was chewing gum and his wife was scratching her nose.

  • svobodnik

It’s odd to me – we were told by feminists, going into the future, that females were now going to be respected for their minds and their abilities.

    • trixiewoobeans

The Democrats convinced them their lady parts ARE their minds and abilities!
