Leonard Nimoy was curious about the “stand your ground” law in Florida, and received a response that briefly but effectively answered the question in a most logical manner:

Mr. Spock himself couldn’t have said it better.

If Trayvon hadn’t punched Zimmerman, there’d have been no tribble at all.

    • SpinMeNot

Does this explain why tribbles squeal every time BHO enters the room?

      • http://whatandever.blogspot.com/ Osumashi Kinyobe

They squeal when Michelle enters the room.

    • Nathan Stewart

If Trayvon had STOPPED at a punch, it would have ended there. It was the continued assault and violence that threatened permanent damage, if not death, that brought it to where it ended up. As Sun Tsu stated, ALWAYS give your enemy a way out, unless total destruction is your goal.

      • http://commentspammersmustdie.blogspot.com/ Kakarot

. . . unless total destruction is your goal.

And in that case, be careful the battle does not end with your own destruction. (that may not be in there, but it should)

  • waltermitty2012

If only Zimmerman’s phaser had been set on stun.

  • carla5731

You can’t explain Stand Your Ground to people whose political instincts tell them it’s better that a woman is raped than that she carry a gun.

Some Stand Your Ground laws require that you attempt to retreat if you feel threatened. Trayvon Martin had ample time to do that, as the defense demonstrated during closing. He could have gone home, knocked on a neighbor’s door and asked for help or called 911, but he chose to sucker punch George Zimmerman.

    • mike_in_kosovo

Some Stand Your Ground laws require that you attempt to retreat if you feel threatened.

Since the basis of SYG law is the antithesis of your statement, can you provide examples?

From wiki: In the United States, stand-your-ground law states that a person may justifiably use force in self-defense when there is reasonable belief of an unlawful threat, without an obligation to retreat first.

      • Stephen L. Hall

That explains why liberals want to get rid of Stand Your Ground laws . . . they ALWAYS feel threatened.

        • Brian McKinny

And they always prefer retreat over defending yourself from a criminal element.

It’s just BSA throwing his usual BS and ignorant crap around.

          • Mark81150

            No one..

BSA is projecting again.. just like every liberal, if you hold a principle they don’t, your motives have to be.. “Yahooo” or some other left wing fever swamp imagining of what we mean when we speak.. they can never take our words at face value.. they always assume we’re fill in the blank kind of evil..

Something which shows just how dark and twisted their minds are when you disagree with them… we aren’t permitted to have good intentions or moral positions.. they think only they are allowed.

which is why liberals don’t have non liberal friends much.. the most openly bigoted haters in this country, are the mind made up liberals and their absurd belief in their own pious moral superiority. A true liberal is by nature insufferable..

          • Mark81150

You take great pride in distorting what’s being said..

            don’t you junior?

If you are too intellectually stunted to understand the concept of self defense.. then why bother commenting here, other than to display your deeply held ignorance.

wiki is not a credible source. Try Again.

        • mike_in_kosovo

Prove the quoted piece in incorrect, first.

Then, we can have a discussion about using wiki as a general source and point to research from…once you get brave enough to “try again” and log in under your own screen name.

        • tuxkatz

          See Florida Statutes 776.013(3)
Says the same thing as wiki and I’m sure you’d agree that’s a credible source.

Just because wiki is not always credible doesn’t mean it’s never credible. Like what mike_in_kosovo said, it’s a good general source of information to use as a starting point.

          Try again.

  • Sarah Lise

Maybe another Vulcan can explain it to him, since he seems to no longer possess any logic.

    • Brian McKinny

Maybe his logic is suffering from the effects of Bendii Syndrome? After all, his father, Sarek of Vulcan suffered from it as well. It’s probably a genetic predisposition to the disease, passed down from father to son. LLAP, Spock, son of Sarek. May you find someone suitable to mind meld with to boost your control of your emotions.

      • Deborah Hallsted

That was beautiful response. Good on ‘ya.

        • Brian McKinny

Spock’s illogical human half is showing through…
    …and it’s a Liberal!!!

    • Stephen L. Hall

Spock was always illogical . . . and liberal.

The needs of the many . . . pure socialist nonsense.

      • Brian McKinny

        I always thought so, myself.

      • James ‘Jim’ Osborne

To be fair, the context (in the movie) of his using the phrase “The needs of the many…” was as a member of the military (Star Fleet), and involved personal sacrifice in trade for the lives of his friends and shipmates. In that context, it’s not socialism-it’s heroism. (Yeah, I know how lame this post makes me look, but I’m bored…lol)

        • Brian McKinny

          Starfleet isn’t military.

The right perhaps, but not the capability. Oh, and there’s that quest for world domination thing they had going on.

Leonard Nimoy is a guy I just can’t dislike, so I’ll assign this to dementia. Also, Star Trek III.

    • SpinMeNot

Star Trek V was one of his as well I believe … Even my beloved trekkie wife got up and said “we’re leaving.” 30 minutes into the movie.

      • Brian McKinny

        Actually, Star Trek V was Shatner’s fiasco… But I digress. LLAP! 😀

        • SpinMeNot

I stand corrected … thank you sir

      • David_Rogers

V was Shatner. And Nimoy did IV, too. Whale Trek was nearly as good as Khan.

        • SpinMeNot

I stand corrected, thank you sir.

      • ked5

ST IV was nimoy’s – it had crossover success with non-trekkies. V was shatner’s debacle.

        • TexSizzle

In general, the odd-numbered ones were considerably inferior to the even-numbered ones. My younger sister, a serious trekkie, said they should have released toe odds directly to videotape (yes, youngsters, some of them are that old) and only released the evens to theaters.

Don’t think SYG comes into play when you are pinned to the ground getting your head pummeled.

  • http://boogieforward.us/ K-Bob

Zimmerman should have known how to do that Vulcan shoulder grip thing, where it totally knocks out the other guy without any harm to him whatsoever.

  • http://commentspammersmustdie.blogspot.com/ Kakarot

Don’t confuse Leonard Nimoy with Mr. Spock.

    Or with logic.

    • bluewaternavy

Nimrod always used to complain “I Am Not Spock”
Sure as hell, he’s RIGHT! Spock was logical

      • Brian McKinny

He came out with a book called, “I AM Spock”, later… :)

Lenny tried to pick my girlfriend up in 1972 at ISU. Cool dude.

  • Richard Jefferies

He did have a right to stand his ground, he chose to advance on Zimmerman’s ground instead; and he got shot.

  • http://stressjudocoaching.yolasite.com/ Rick Carter, Stress Judo Coach

Actually, Trayvon had the right to ignore zimmerman and just keep walking. zimmerman nor a real cop could have forced a stop.
There is no reason to talk to strangers on the street, especially if you think they are following you.

  • arrow2010

Fortunately the real Spock would not have said such a dumbass thing.

  • screamingmad

Please pay attention. The trial was not about Stand Your Ground. It was about self defense. Self defense……when someone is attacking you and you fear great bodily harm or death it is legal to defend yourself. It is about the victims state of mind. Stand your ground was not an issue.

  • Skevvy

If Trayvon had killed Zimmerman, we would never have heard either of their names, nor would we have been told, by the mainstream media, the race hustlers, or Hollywood, to care! For the modern American mentality, “Black teen kills white/latino neighbor” is NOT news…

    • Brian

Because if Trayvon had killed Zimmerman, he’d have been arrested that same night. The whole reason we found out about this was that Zimmerman was barely even questioned, and was sent home that same night, gun in hand.

  • slobbering fits

    That’s retarded , Sir.

Stevie Wonder has stated he will no longer play in any State with a SYG law on the books. That means he will no longer be performing in 22 States. A radical, bold move for a 63 year old millionaire who has body guards 24/7.

Every time i read some actors opinion on these sites i am reminded of that old hollyweird saying about how you are only as good as your last success
