Two Harford County sheriff’s deputies have died following a shooting late Wednesday morning in Abingdon, Md.
According to the Baltimore Sun, two sheriff’s deputies were shot and killed inside and near a Panera restaurant. The suspect, 67-year-old David Brian Evans, was shot and killed nearby by responding deputies.
Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said at a press conference that he believes the deputy at Panera was targeted, saying “the suspect took that action because he was in a police uniform. He was certainly targeting them.” The Baltimore Sun reported one patron as saying that she and her daughter “saw a guy who looked like he’s homeless, disheveled. She said he’s seen him in there before. To her, it looked like the cop was talking to the man and then shooting started.”
