“So how are things going for feminism?” asks Glenn Reynolds, aka Instapundit, in an opinion piece published in Saturday’s edition of USA Today. “Well, last week they took one of the great achievements of human history — landing a probe from Earth on a comet hundreds of millions of miles away— and made it all about the clothes.”

As Twitchy reported, “slutshirt shamed” British physicist Matt Taylor of the Rosetta probe project gave a tearful apology Friday for demonstrating “casual misogyny” in his choice of attire for the day of the comet landing. Many on Twitter came to Taylor’s defense: “Can we make a bigger deal out of nothing?” asked one tweeter.

Reynolds took his defense of Taylor to USA Today, calling the incident “one small shirt for a man, one giant leap backward for womankind.”

“It seems to me that if you care about women in STEM,” he adds, “maybe you shouldn’t want to communicate the notion that they’re so delicate that they can’t handle pictures of comic-book women. Will we stock our Mars spacecraft with fainting-couches?”

That will have to wait; Reynolds’ article is proof that there’s a terrible shortage of fainting-couches here on earth. To further illustrate the backlash against Taylor, Reynolds quoted a tweet in which The Atlantic’s Rose Eveleth wrote, “No no women are toooootally welcome in our community, just ask the dude in this shirt.” But is it true that he “doxxed” her too, a la Anonymous? That’s crazy.

Huh? Where did this ridiculous (and defamatory) “doxxing” idea come from? Here?

Something like that.

Excellent advice. And maybe read his piece in USA Today. Carefully.

Notice how the left successfully changed the narrative twice in a single story? And turned the argument to be about their narrative, not about the story?

This one actually pissed me off more than any of the others.

Dmitri Shosakovich – the greatest composer to come out of the Soviet Union – was dragged before the Grand Soviet and denounced TWICE for imaginary crimes and still managed to survive. A situation not to dissimilar to what happened to the Blogfather today.

In response, he wrote one of my favorite pieces of music ever, his 10th Symphony. He wrote it sometime after the first and possibly before the second denunciation. It is the experience of living under the horrors of Stalinism set to music and is a 45 minute tour de force.

And this lowlife decides that after joining in the 2 Minutes Hate against Prof. Reynolds, he will go off and listen to the man’s music. Either he doesn’t understand the history of the man, or he is a dishonest hack. Both legitimately offend me as a fan of Shostakovich’s work.

How much longer before somebody does some freelance (?) provocateuring and starts claiming that RWNJ’s are smearing “Schickl” Gruber, to the point that the “flying munkies” are coming after HIM — y’know, after they set up a few spoof accounts that they think SOUND like RWNJ’s, and disseminate HIS contact info? And then use those accounts to hate on him, with stuff like “Die, Elitist Scumbag!”, or the like?

“You SEE, they’re HATERS! It’s all about wanting to make O-care fail, to spite the President, because they HATE him, and we ALL know why!”

When in fact, we don’t hate Gruber at all– at least, not in a way that would make us want to shame him into SILENCE! We WANT him to speak out, and justify all this superciliousness he’s shown that we keep digging up on him, and watch him squirm!

      • Arttie the Deplorable

I have a shirt with WW2 fighter planes, stars and stripes, and period pinups. I pick the places wear it since it may offend some of our local peace mongers. Instead I use my shirt covered with Old Glory through the ages when I am working the polling place.

        • Eric D. Mertz #NeverTrump

You know, seeing the Stars and Stripes before voting tends to make independents more likely to vote GOP.

          • Arttie the Deplorable

The polling place is the local Senior Citizens’ center. I have not noticed an American flag there. Maybe I should donate one.

  • ExiledOnMainStreet

I’m a woman and I’m still trying to figure out what exactly is so offensive about this shirt from a feminist POV. I’m not talking about whether it’s fashionable or appropriate for work – in my experience, science nerds aren’t fashion plates. When I initially read about it it was described as S & M porn. But the comic book women on the shirt aren’t naked or in bondage or submissive. They’re in skimpy outfits, but they’re brandishing guns. They don’t look like victims, they’re not wearing leashes or being beaten by men – so what’s the problem? You see scantier outfits on the beach.

I’m wondering if what set the feministas off was not the skimpy clothes, but the guns. Women not being victims? We can’t have that!

    • waltzingmtilda

Maybe he should have worn a shirt depicting over-weight women in bikinis…that conundrum would = feminist ‘splody heads.

      • JBluen

I think you’re probably looking for a rational motive where there really isn’t one. Feminism, and Leftism in general, these days seems to be a huge Alinsky-fueled prison fight, in which the primary goal is to shank someone so as to establish Leftist “street cred.”

    • gekkobear

Ok, I tried to explain this once but I’ll go again.
(argument stolen in part from twitter, but I steal from the best when possible)

      1) These were true feminists.
      2) Feminists exist to break down offensive stereotypes about women.
      3) Therefore they ignore the scientific achievement to focus 100% about fashion.

Clear now? No? More confused than before?

      My work here is done.

  • JBluen

Umm, I hate to point this out, but by this weirdo’s own crackpot standard, she just doxxed Dr. Reynolds. Public criticism of individual involving that individual’s name = doxxing. Am I missing something here?

oh, and truthfully, that shirt was butt fugly…

    • genes ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Basically finding out the name and other info of someone and posting it. This saves other people several minutes of googleing.

      • waltzingmtilda

Not a big fan of doxing, because I think it encourages a mob mentality and speaks to an unhealthy obsession, but you’re right…the stuff that doxers dig up is readily available (and usually made so by the doxee) and is by no means top secret. It just makes me really uncomfortable that people are so willing to “out” their fellow citizens…what is it they are hoping to accomplish? I feel like it’s an attempt to silence people and I don’t like it at all.

        • JBluen

In concrete terms, the goals are usually firing or harassment carried out by others. Real, physical harm is occasionally the objective.

          • waltzingmtilda

That’s why I hate it, no matter which side it comes from.

          • JBluen

And that’s why you’re a conservative. Power isn’t worth having if it’s obtained through illegitimate means. The Left increasingly appears to have abandoned that kind of restraint. It’s a pretty worrisome development, and I can imagine some unpleasant consequences for all of us if this continues down the usual path. This may sound hyperbolic, but it’s no coincidence that the Left has spent the last century littering the planet with mass graves.

        • Eric D. Mertz #NeverTrump

Lynch mobs. The whole point of doxxing someone is to make the information easily and readily available so bad actors can use it as they will. Thanks to SWAT’ing, a doxxer can get someone hurt or even killed at three steps removed.

          • waltzingmtilda

I remember the first time I read about SWAT’ing…I was so horrified.

        • genes ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

How exactly is a shirt of sexy women, misogynistic? To show a woman in a sexy pose is hatred for women? Then MTV, all TV, Movies, Music and Magazines are misogynistic.
