Despite a government ban, thousands in Paris took to the streets to take part in a pro-Palestinian demonstration that soon turned violent. Photos from the scene show the extent of the protests and fires set by angry “youth.”

      • Paul V

Actually, they lost them long before that. When Napoleon marched his bravest and best into cannon fodder, France lost the brave and inherited the cowards that hid behind whatever skirt was available. Sometimes wearing them. Kind of like our current occupant of the White House.

Protests like this are not unusual in Paris. I remember having to walk for miles because the protesters had caused the shut down the metro. I remember the tear gas and the burning cars and trash cans. What was the protest all about….some kind of tax increase on farmers.

    • sambar2

I happened to be in Paris for one night on May Day last year. I had come from Japan and was up at 5 am due to the time change. I was really looking forward to a sunrise walk but the doorman at my hotel strongly urged me to stay inside (they had locked the doors). Apparently, all the protesters (protesting the fact that they have to work) from the day before had turned into a drunken riot on the streets and it wasn’t safe for a solo girl like me to be outside.

I love Paris. But the people can be absolute morons. (I won’t go into my cab driver who, when he realized I was from the USA, went on and on about “evil” Bush. *sigh*)

        • Michelle ✓classified

Yeah, forgive me, I’m just not gonna place the blame on France for this. I believe in holding those who act like animals responsible for their actions.

          • Mia003

Yeah but they only arrested 33. They need to deport anyone that does stuff like this. Also stop giving them benefits, I doubt that most of these people work.

          • Richard Jefferies

I agree these animals need to be put down, but France’s policies have led to this, and they don’t seem anxious to fix it. This is not the first summer of burning for the city of Paris. Sarkozy tried to fix it, but the French decide to fire him and replace him with a out spoken socialist lefty like Hollandaise. I’m not saying every Frenchman is to blame, any more than I’m saying every American is to blame for our troubles, but if a population continues to allow this to take place, or they vote Obozo in a second time, they should not be considered blameless. France has a long history of paying the Danegeld.

          • Michelle ✓classified

I look at blaming France for this crap in this way…what about when these animals start this here? And folks say USA was asking for it? Does that include you? Does that include me? No, it includes our Government and weepy willed Liberals – certainly those two entities do not define ‘America’. The actions of a portion of my country most definitely does not speak for the whole of my country. And in that logic, I think it’s not OK to blame ‘France’ as a whole for this sh*t unless you can show me every citizen was okey dokey with the invasion. I mean, the majority of Americans are NOT OK with the invasion going on at our Southern border – but it’s happening because our Government wasn’t do a damn thing about it. Does that mean ‘America” brought this on themselves?

          • Richard Jefferies

I’m certainly not saying France is asking for it, I’m saying, just like the border, they aren’t doing anything about it, and they vote in politicians that are not only not willing to do anything about it, but are outspoken about not doing anything about it. We’ll see this November if America has learned its lessons yet. If there is a sweeping change in elected officials, I might be more optimistic. If the incumbents win out, then it will be business as usual and I will conclude that America, as a whole, not every individual, is indeed culpable in its own demise. I’ve said that anyway. Yes, many of them have been bought off with taxpayer dollars, but that doesn’t change the facts. Apathy and greed are as dangerous a foe as any invading army.

There were protests in 12 cities all over France, the ban was for Paris, which, interestingly, was the only protest that saw any violence. There were other global cities with protests as well, including here in the US. People have the right in this country (for now) to protest for whatever reason they want, whether or not you like it. Peaceful protests are one of the cornerstones of a free society. If people become violent or destructive to property, then, they are subject to arrest and their actions should be condemned.
