President Obama on Monday announced the establishment of an interagency group to deal with rising numbers of children crossing the U.S.-Mexico border unaccompanied by adults. Yahoo News reports:

In a memo that describes an “urgent humanitarian situation,” Obama has put the Federal Emergency Management Agency in charge of coordinating humanitarian relief to the children, including housing, care, medical treatment and transportation.

The Obama administration estimates that about 60,000 “unaccompanied minors” — children under 18 — will enter the United States illegally this year. It projects that number to grow to nearly 130,000 next year.

A facility that will accommodate up to 600 children will be established at Naval Base Ventura County in Southern California, it was announced today. A similar facility was established last month at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and is nearing its 1,200 child capacity.

Laura Ingraham offers her own solution.

“including housing, care, medical treatment and transportation.”

    Transportation WHERE?

How do we put a stop to his “use of pen”?
    Seriously. Anyone ?

    • Tugger – ✓unamused

Unfortunately, I don’t think he can be stopped until he is removed from office. The clowns in congress will not do their jobs to reign him in and even if the house did, Harry Reid would stop it in the senate. At this point, I just hope he pisses off enough of the independents and democrats to insure that Hillary does not get elected.

My son is now 14 – and I asked if he knew why we didn’t move toward impeachment with Saturday’s breaking of law. He said, “Oh they will cry racism” . . . (man, just when I think he doesn’t listen, he fooled me!)

      • helpmegetback

And your point being? Illegal is illegal – I don’t care about any other reasons, I wish that actual US citizens would get a better education and not be subjected to 50+ students per class.

I think there is this ‘humanitarian situation’ because the mexicans and well anyone else who wants to enter the US through Mexico realize the ‘fun’ will soon be over so they are sending as many children/adults/terrorists as they can. Next year you will really see the heavy influx of people.

        • WilliamAmos

My point is to show that the US is now supporting them in every way. We are educating, clothing and housing them it is a major effort to swamp our system.

          • helpmegetback

Thanks for the response… I am a bit confused though… the US is supporting them in every way but it is an effort to swamp our system?

          • WilliamAmos

The Obama Administration is making every effort to keep them here in the US. Even providing services for them that they normally wouldnt get. There are other aspects to this story such as this below.

Yup…til they can be “reunified” with family, friends or parents in the US…or til parents cross illegally and take them. Then both parents and kids are essentially shielded form deportation thanks to current policies

    • conservativechick

As soon as the children are settled in and are being cared for by our government, the entire family has to “reunite” HERE. Urgent humanitarian issue and all…but the bills should be sent to MEXICO. They’re doing better financially than we are these days.

So their families are not broken up, Obama is going to send for their parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, acquaintances, and all of their pets.

    • LSmith

They aren’t Mexicans for one; primarily Central Americans. Current laws prohibit Border Patrol or ICE from returning them. The ultimate goal is “reunification” in the US with any possible family member.

      • Michelle ✓classified

Oh Em Gee are you incredibly and hilariously misunderstanding me. I never said they were all Mexicans, I don’t care where they’re from – I suggested they be turned away and sent back over the border. There is a law saying we can’t send illegal border crossers back over the border? I’m interested in hearing more about this law, is there a link to more info? The ultimate goal of who? The US?

        • LSmith

All right, the law governing care, custody and repatriation of unaccompanied minors is the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008, Section 235. An unaccompanied minor cannot be repatriated to their home country without first going through a whole host of legal hurdles, and to have their case heard by an immigration judge. And they are placed in the custody of another federal agency for their care, “custody” and housing. That agency is the Office of Refugee Resettlement, under Health and Human Services…which is not a law enforcement agency, and is not interested in enforcing immigration law, nor seeing its charges deported.

The ultimate goal of this federal agency (and of this administration) is “reunification” with any family member inside the US. A somewhat disingenuous and naive goal.

Border Patrol and ICE agents want to follow the laws on the books. Unfortunately, this administration’s policies (namely, various ways to twist the concept of prosecutorial discretion) make it difficult on a daily basis. It is simply not possible to turn an unaccompanied juvenile around and return them to their home country with the same speed in which they crossed into the US once HHS, the courts, attorneys, and advocates get involved.

          • Maryland_Malcontent

2008? So this is yet another Dubya screwup :(

BTW, why is this Act named after a guy who was anti-slavery? Isn’t that what all these illegals will become, de facto slaves who exist in a permanent, multi-generational underclass that is compelled to vote Democrat in perpetuity?

Oh, and @Michelle , this law was sponsored by a California representative :)

            http://beta.congress.gov/bill/110th-congress/house-bill/7311

          • LSmith

Unfortunately, yes. few people protest when anything “for the chiillldren” is tacked onto a bill that purports to protect them. Plus this was back when unaccompanied minors crossing was in the single digit thousands. I should also add that the Homeland Security Act of 2003 started all this…HHS and ORR housing and caring for all these illegal kids.

          • Suzyqpie

“Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008, Section 235. An unaccompanied minor cannot be repatriated to their home country without first going through a whole host of legal hurdles,” legislation written by lawyers for the benefit of lawyers being adjudicated by lawyers. The children serve as human shields to grow government.

It might not be a bad idea to load a few thousand at that Air Force base into transport planes and fly them back to Honduras, Guatemala, or whatever place. When word gets out that the U.S. is shipping them all back, maybe the flow will stop.

        • LSmith

Right now the word is out in Central America that if you can make it in, you’re here to stay. Same goes for mom and dad if they are already here or on their way, once Junior is reunified with them or other family. And if Junior has no family, ORR will provide a foster home or shelter with little likelihood of repatriation, if their attorneys or various advocates can help it.

  • JBE

I hope these children are well cared for while they are in our country.

You have NO idea (one they are placed in their group homes or foster care). Group homes contracted by the Feds to housed and care for these kids up to age 18 go on field trips, donated gifts, full medical and dental, clothing, hot meals, education, video games and pro bono attorneys that help them get legal status (although attorneys think they should be provided at taxpayer expense).

      • JBE

You would rather them try to live in the hell hole that their home country has become?

        • Tugger – ✓unamused

If everyone else is seeking refuge, we should provide it.

          • dot_bat

they should stay at home and fight for it, as does most everybody else on the planet. its more convenient and safe for them to come here and get it handed to them.

          • JohnFLob

Yes I do enjoy my freedoms and liberty. I want to keep them. That is why I am against welcoming wave after wave of foreign invaders into our country and their dictation of our terms of surrender.

          • Tugger – ✓unamused

So where should we seek refuge after they turn our country into a hell hole?

          • JBE

Did the Irish turn the country into a hell hole? The Italians? The Jews?

          • Maryland_Malcontent

            Assume?

          • Tugger – ✓unamused

I’m basing it on what they’ve done to their countries and what they are doing to California and many large cities here.

          • JohnFLob

NO! They had good work ethics, pride, and were willing to assimilated and adapt to their new host country. They followed the rules.

          • Suzyqpie

The Irish, Italians, nor the Jews arrived with the expectation of becoming members of the Recipient Class. The American taxpayers can not solve the humanitarian disaster from which these “refugee” are fleeing. The American taxpayers can not provide for the poor from around the globe who are fleeting into our country by the millions.

Remember how we were told that we shouldn’t deport illegal alien parents of anchor babies because it would be cruel to break up their families (ignoring that they could take their kids with them)? But suddenly now progs don’t have a problem with separating minors from their parents.
Let’s reunite the families and send the kids back to their parents.

    • LSmith

That’s what SHOULD happen, rather than “reunification” in the US. But, no matter what, being in the US is always going to be “in their best interest” per their attorneys and the federal agency that houses and “reunifies” them. The main reason for the spread of it is pairing of hippie and paranoid parents who refuse to vaccinate their speshul snowflakes. It’s a sort of meeting of the crazy from right and left.

This is a national disgrace. Came across my parents citizenship papers and information booklet. They kept the flags they received and were proud to be Americans. Instead, we have an influx of people who do not care about our laws, cruelly send their children alone to a country with no sponsors or ability to communicate. Yet, those of us who want border security are the evil ones. Not only should the Chamber of Commerce house them, so should the swanky household at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
