A report released today by the Department of Health and Human Services shows that more than three-quarters of people who purchased an insurance plan through the Obamacare insurance marketplace will be receiving federal financial assistance in paying their premiums.

HHS also revealed for the first time demographic information. Only 24 percent of enrollees are from the important 18–34 age group. As the Washington Examiner’s Philip Klein reports, that’s well below the administration’s goal of nearly 39 percent. “In December, a report from the Kaiser Family Foundation identified a ‘worst-case scenario’ situation in which just 25 percent of enrollees were in the 18-to-34 demographic,” Klein writes.

This really pisses me off. I cant afford my own health insurance now because of the rising premiums/copays and deductibles. I can however, apparently pay for subsidies for everyone else to pay for theirs via government dictate.

      • Fairfax51

Most of Defense Department toys are getting cut (even to disabled vets) while food stamps, Obama phones and ACA subsidies rise. Consequence…see increase in deaths in Afghanistan & Iraq. Happy now?

        • Roto ✓Intentionally Left Blank

Yea, I work with DOD and Obama’s been cutting us since FY2009. But the cuts are in certain appropriation types (in Govt. you have to pay everything with the right appropriation in triplicate :-). They whacked my Operations and Maintenance funding from FY09 to FY12. I lost two engineers because I couldn’t move/borrow funds to cover them. It set our programs back about 2 years.

And Halliburton had one J&A contract, but all the rest were Open Competition (even the one under BJ Clinton). Their profit was a whopping 1% in Iraq (it’s on the contract pdf file online).

          • Fairfax51

But they continue to spend money on unnecessary equipment that is built or supplied in certain Senate members districts, and they have “no bid contracts” making a coffee pot cost $7,000 making cronies money at military expense.
The military is not just the most important responsibility of the Federal Government, but is one of the few things the government is suppose to do according to the Constitution. Sickening. Left has also not figured out, when we have a Republican as President, we spend lots more on the military because we have to rebuild it after a Democratic President has scrapped it. After Clinton, when Bush was threatening war in Iraq (which we won, but now a Dem is giving over to Muslim Brotherhood; like Vietnam, we won the war and media & Dems gave it away and Khmer Rouge killed millions), Rumsfeld said all the war plans for Iraq, Iran etc were covered with dust. Needed updated constantly.

          • porkchop6209

…..but they have to pay for Area 51.

          • Roto ✓Intentionally Left Blank

Well, don’t believe everything you read in the liberal press. The $480 hammer was total buII (it was an accounting trick by the press, adding all the overhead cost to the unit price of a hammer). Congress forcing us to by systems in their districts is rare. We request Congressional plus-ups for additional funding a lot more. There’s no such thing as a “No Bid” contract. The term really means a company “no bids” a Govt. request for proposal if they don’t have the expertise, manpower, etc. to do the work. ALL Govt. bids are open competition by law. And without Sole Source contracts to a single company, re-bidding maintenance contracts on old aircraft, ships, etc. would waste billions.

        • porkchop6209

Just wait until they get to here……….Oh, look, a squirrel!

          • Fairfax51

My point is still the same. Save the waste in the Pentagon and military to benefit politicians; while we cut benefits to our injured vets, leave troops where they are not needed, while we cut combat numbers to save money, call terrorist attacks on American soil “work place violence” so the families of the dead do not get benefits and medals.
No bid contract also called sole source contracts. Don’t tell Google there is no such thing. Also don’t tell the left who had fits over Halliburton no-bid contracts in Iraq.

          • porkchop6209

Absolutely Fairfax51, could not have said it better myself. Oh to be a fly on the wall, yet reveal the actual truth to people. And what our Kongress did to our Veterans today by cutting their C.O.L.A.’s while shoveling money to illegals breaking our laws and benefitting from it is sleazy, despicable, lower than whale shit and they all can KISS MY ASS. I hope and pray every single one is tossed out on their ears over the next couple of election cycles. And NO MORE lifetime entitlements for stooging thru passing laws that oppress the citizenry. Term limits and regular pay NOW!

      • Catchance

I’m assuming that’s sarcasm, but I don’t recognize the quote.

        • Roto ✓Intentionally Left Blank

I deliberately used the word “thought” because it’s not a direct quote (although Alan Grayson (D-FL) could’ve easily said it). It’s really not sarcastic. My point is that as Obamacare keeps overrunning, as compared to the CBO estimate, Democrats will have no problem adding to the Federal Debt to fund it. Thinking that Democrats mind if Obamacare “doesn’t add a dime to the debt” is ridiculous. I question whether a “Death Spiral” even exists. Just like every other Entitlement, if it overruns they’ll just print more money and add to the debt.

    • porkchop6209

The scary question is- What happens when it hits bottom?

  • Mary

And this is something to be proud of? Being on a Government program? How sad is that…but this is our culture now..the society we now live in where children are now defined as being produced by “baby daddies and baby mama’s”.

    • Casca

      It’s Bush’s fault……..

      • porkchop6209

  • Brown

I thought Obamacare was going to be so cheap that the majority of enrollees wouldn’t need financial assistance.

  • Harry_Voyager

Well, the problem they’ve run into is most 18-31 somethings (I note that they’ve moved the bracket up to 34 now), either already had insurance, or couldn’t afford it.

If you have a full time job, you have (or now, had) insurance. It’s a standard benefit.
If you don’t have a full time job, but you are under 26, you are on your folks insurance.
If you don’t have a full time job, and are over 26, you don’t have enough money to buy health insurance.

  • Roto ✓Intentionally Left Blank

The CBO called. They want their Total Cost for Obamacare estimate back.

  • J_W_C_NM

What most people don’t understand is that the subsidies are actually a tax credit that must be reconciled against actual income on following years tax return. You may have to repay part of the subsidy or receive a greater credit.

  • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

    Hey….you know that cost curve…….has become a singularity/black hole.

I guess Pelosi was right, “Embrace the suck.”

  • AZcommenter

And Obamacare isn’t going to add “one thin dime” to the deficit, remember? Obama promised!

Of course, Obama also promised that “if you like your plan, you can keep your plan,” and “if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” and a whole lot of other things that have been proven to be blatant lies. But we can’t talk about all of Obama’s deliberate lies, because that would be raaaaaacist, or something.

  • mentalmidgets

OH but don’t worry taxpayers are going to pay for it all anyway.

  • Bundle Up

Since plunder destroys liberty and stalls civilization’s advance, it leads to even more demands to redistribute even more wealth, thus accelerating the downward spiral.

  • P_Ang

I also wonder how many of the “24%” of 18-34 year old demographic have actually signed up and PAID for their policies, as the White House has repeatedly grouped enrollees and subscribers together with people who merely went to the healthcare website and saw the policies were too expensive. Visited healthcare.com? You’re an enrollee!
