It seems we briefly got an inconvenient truth from sportscaster Sal Masekela — something about fellow sportscaster Bob Costas always saying something “both uninformed and wildly pompous.”

Now you see it, now you don’t.

What did Costas say this time?

Could it be this slam of new Olympic event slopestyle?

https://twitter.com/_amyo/status/420689961449312256

Of course, “wildly pompous” could refer to just about anything coming out of Costas’ mouth.

Pretty much every sport in the Olympics is something that someone made up and put in the games. What a jerk.

Costas never lets an opportunity to talk out of his rectum go to waste. I mute him every time i see his face.

  • H50 ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Way to be a pompous ass again Bob.
Id pay money to see you try to do anything half the athletes that you diminish do.
Get yer insurance paid up and show us how its done pajama boy.

    • Al’s Not So Sad Grampa

It would be impossible for Costas to participate in any organized sports. He isn’t good enough to play in any kind of adult league; he’s too old to play in any peewee league; he’s too short to ride a chairlift without adult supervision; he can’t see over the net on the tennis court; course marshals escort him off the premises for slow play; he’s banned for his own safety from any shooting/archery competition; his feet can’t reach the accelerator or brake pedals so he’s not allowed to race any kind of car; no cycling races allow training wheels.

The only thing for which he qualifies in any kind of competition is as the puck on the High Striker game at the carnival…you know, that little weight that rings the bell if you hit the lever with the hammer with enough force.

      • gotroy22

He wouldn’t be able to get on a chairlift!

      • karmafordems

But above all, like all the other “short short” men, I bet he’s got a cool cool car

    high chair — BAM!

  • stuckinIL4now

Yes, “wildly pompous”–that’s pinning the tail right smack on the jackass which is exactly what Costas is best at making himself–a jackass.

  • LegalizeShemp

“C’mon Bob, that’s not jackass stuff, that’s a legitimate sport!” Sincerely, Synchronized Swimming

This nails it better than what I tried with my literalism, well done.

  • ceemack

I have no idea what “slopestyle” is. But if wee Bobby Costas is against it, maybe it isn’t so bad.

    • Mark81150 Never/Trump/Hillary

I don’t follow sports at all… but I see enough to know a basic truth… most people can’t do it, and not get killed. It’s clearly a tough sport that requires skill..

I can’t even run, haven’t been able to since the accident.. I try and after two steps my legs just tangle up and I go down hard. I hate it that I can’t even play football with my son. I can throw a ball, but not chase it or bend much to pick it up.. Costas mocking these young people for doing something a great many people can only dream of is arrogant in the extreme.

The only truth in any of it, I’d pay to see Costas on Jackass and stand still while the Little Person kicks him in the Jimmy..

It’s no sport… it’d just fun to watch.. Costas I mean.. taking it hard to the nads..

  • southroncross .

The ‘high chair’ comment was so absolutely funny, and, so absolutely TRUE. He is simply a pompous arse who thinks way too much of himself.

  • dwsmokin

Costas knows one thing and one thing only-baseball. He’d be better advised to keep his comments to the diamond-he proves his ignorance every time he attacks any other subject.

    • Harrison Bergeron

Have you ever seen him throw a ball? He can recite stats and recollections, but he knows almost ZERO unless someone else gives it to him. He’s not even half a man. Liberal putz.

  • Maxx

The only thing faster than our Olympic speed skaters will be the mute on my remote, activated milliseconds following “now let’s return to our NBC studios with Bob Costas.”

    • Col Bat Guano

This comment is in competition with “climbs up on his high chair” for best post of the day!!!

    • Mark81150 Never/Trump/Hillary

      Dry wit for the win…

I bet you like English humor…

  • Bombus

Is slopestyle something you do on a snowcat? Could they do synchronized slopestyle with like 10 snowcats?

  • alanstorm

Who is this Sal Masekela? I like him already.

I may have to start watching sports after this…

  • spepper

“…climbs up on his high chair….” Quote of the year thus far! Salute to Sal!

  • gotroy22

Nice that the younger generation that snowboards will now see Boob Costas for what he is.

  • Col Bat Guano

I decided Costas was a pompous boob after hearing him calling an “extra point,” a “P-A-T.” Eye-yi-yi! He woulda gotten into a bar fight in my circles talking like that.

  • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

YES! #MarvAlbert I’d like to see Big-Mouth Bob put his money where his mouth is, and show US how easy (Foolish, Ridiculous, etc.) snowboarding is….looks easy once you get the hang of it, but I don’t know, I’ve never been snowboarding or Skiing… Jawamax 8<{D}….

  • thohan

Of the uninformed stuff Bob Costas has said, I’m pretty much ok with this one. It’s ignorant and pompous, yes, but in the funny, endearing way, not in the damaging anti-constitution way.

  • Janice LEE

wildly pompous dufus sitting in his high chair. Oh, I love that image. Fits Costas so well.

  • Shubi

Costas is definitely pompous, and I’m certainly not a fan, but I have to agree with him on this one. Slopestyle? Pfft. Of course, I feel that way about the Olympics in general. And don’t bother telling me, “yeah, well, let’s see YOU try it!” There are plenty of things that I can’t do (and wouldn’t want to do); so what? I have no interest in doing, or watching others do, things I find goofy.

    • Portnoy

Totally in agreement here. The Olympics, both Summer and Winter have become a joke…it’s all about $$. They should just merge with the X-Games and Pro Wrasslin’ and cash in.

  • Portnoy

God invented snowboarding for people that can’t ski.

    • Tahoe Rider

Or for those who only need 2 edges to turn

  • nommoc esnes

Wow. Thanks. Sal. I thought I was the only one who noticed what a complete idiot / ass Bob Costas is.

  • http://southpark.cc.com/clips/103359/april-fools Flatus Maximus

To be sure, Costas is a pompous ass, but I have to half-agree that most winter Olympics sports are botique nonsense to allow marginal athletes to get fame.

  • Strelnikov

All I know about Sal Masekela is that I loved his hit “Grazin’ In the Grass” back in the 70’s.
