What’s that? The New York Times had a reporter on the scene of the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya? Reporter David D. Kirkpatrick, who wrote this weekend’s piece on Benghazi, says it was invaluable to have a reporter on the ground talking to the attackers during the attack.

Absolutely.

We thought the purpose of journalism was to answer questions, not raise them.

That would be invaluable information.

Update 12/31/13 at 12:50 p.m.:

Apologies for missing these tweets last night. According to Kirkpatrick, the Times revealed “right after the attack” that it had a reporter on the scene in Benghazi during the attack.

  • Michelle ✓classified

Really? Reeeaaallllly? That’s stinks to high heaven of total BS. And if it’s true, that “reporter” “talking to the attackers during the attack” is a witness to four murders. I insist that Rep. Issa subpoena this witness to be questioned by Congress.

NY Times Benghazi Piece Penned by Cairo Bureau Chief http://bit.ly/1ajU1IZ

      • Michelle ✓classified

And? I’m not getting your point, I guess. There’s nothing in that piece about a NYT reporter who interviewed the attackers while the attack was going on. What am I missing?

        • Scorpion

          Maybe it was Peter Arnette.

          • gold7406

if it was peter, he may have been a participant.
I remember during the initial attack on baghdad, when he and holliman and shaw were in the hotel room reporting and shaw said, “I guess this is what is known as a surgical strike.” peter said, “you don’t know that.” Implying it was indiscriminate bombing.

          • Scorpion

I remember that. That’s who this guy reminded me of when I read this story.

      • Al’s Not So Sad Grampa

And it took that bureau chief over a year to write about the attack?

    • karmafordems

      Treason, anyone?

      • Mark81150 Never/Trump/Hillary

Maybe having taken that oath with so many other Americans, I’m just intolerant of the NYT’s playing international citizens while they watch Americans die.. and didn’t see fit to admit it till their laughable Hillary defense piece came out and they had to make excuses for it..

I’m amazed they didn’t have reporters along with the Wehrmacht on D-Day, asking them how they felt about mowing down American kids when the landing boats beached… What’s the matter NYT’s?… weren’t you ace reporters then too?

I just feel sick inside these people are supposedly Americans..

Is there NO limit to their pursuit of a hard left agenda?.. no crime they can witness that would make them back up and run to the authorities?

We don’t expect Rambo.. but we damned sure never dreamed they’d be taking notes while the Al Qaeda cells killed our people in front of them either..

        gutless shameless hacks..

Did they send a thank you card to the [email protected]?

“Being American” and behaving ethically count for nothing at the NYT if the story is anti-Republican. When it comes time to cover a liberal’s ass, however, the most scurrilous writing suddenly becomes “solid journalism.”.

        • 3seven77

Wasn’t the NYT the “appeasement record of note” during Hitler’s run up to power? Didn’t they have a “reporter” who claimed there were no killing camps?

          • Ken Alan Draper

yes, there’s never been a murderous socialist dictator the times didn’t like. they were in quite a pickle when Hitler turned on Stalin.

    • conservativechick

Perfect time for another hearing to drag the reporter’s butt before them to help answer the many lingering questions! Now there are a few more to be explained!

    • Republicanvet

This is mind boggling that the NYT was aware of this…and sat on that information for so long.

      Does the FBI know?

      Does Issa know?

I believe the incompetent DOJ is still claiming they didn’t even know the ID’s of all of the attackers yet.

Did anyone in the administration know of this putting the lie to the Youtube cause?

Why didn’t the NYT report immediately that they KNEW it wasn’t caused by a Youtube video?

These despicable bastards KNEW information that could have assisted in the investigation of 4 murdered Americans. Did they sit on it to protect Bobo and Hillary?

      • Onyx

The attackers that were interviewed during the battle (by Benghazi reporters whose names are readily available) stated that the video was a motivating factor. It says so in the original Times story, two days after the attack. Go back and read it again. None of this information is remotely new.

        • Michelle ✓classified

Ooooh, now it’s making sense. So, Libyan reporters were there (which would explain why they weren’t killed) and the NYT happens to connect with them and is now calling them “NYT reporters”

So we’re expected to believe a random Libyan reporter’s story of the events over all the intelligence, facts, evidence investigated by our own agencies?

Here’s what I’m willing to believe – it absolutely was a planned attack by an al Qaeda linked terrorist group and when they began the attack, random idiots in the area joined in because THEY thought it was about the video, and those are the idiots this “NYT reporter” spoke with.

    • freeinaz

    • conservativechick

I still wonder about this guy who heads a Muslim Brotherhood terror group Ansar al-Shariah : “Ahmed Abu Khattala said – During the revolt, the brigade was accused of killing a top general who had defected to the rebels, Abdul Fattah Younes. Mr. Abu Khatalla acknowledged that the general had died in the brigade headquarters, but declined to discuss it further. Witnesses, Benghazi residents and Western news reports, including those in The New York Times, have described Mr. Abu Khattala as a leader of Ansar al-Shariah, whose trucks and fighters were seen attacking the mission. Mr. Abu Khattala’s defiance — no authority has even questioned him about the attack.” That was from a NYT article in October, 2012?

  • http://whatandever.blogspot.com/ Osumashi Kinyobe

Surely there will be a retraction. A simple misunderstanding caused by the now tornado-velocity Benghazi panic spin.

  • ToyZebra

How do you have an eyewitness reporter at the Benghazi attack and not mention it for over a year?! Either you are lying now or you covered up something then.

    • Mark81150 Never/Trump/Hillary

Both… maybe.. Because if they did have a reporter hooked up with these people enough to where they didn’t just shoot him for asking their “man on the jihad” perspective…

That shoots spontaneous protest out of the water.. and if they knew.. and every American knew we ALWAYS get attacked on 911… they didn’t pick up a phone to tell Hillary to cover her @ss and get some security there?

Or they knew, and just let it happen to watch like a pervert peeking in a dorm window?

There is no way to look at this and not smell treason.

  • Ya Dont Say?

HMM, did that reporter on the ground show them all the “video” to incite the “riot” too?

    • Mark81150 Never/Trump/Hillary

The only way the video defense makes any sense… since even the Libyans on the ground all said “what video”?.. They contradicted Obama personally on that..

and the NYT’s STILL backed up the stupid video nonsense..

  • Andrew King

Seriously? They had a reporter on the ground talking to the attackers? Why is this the 1st were hearing of it?

    • ricoliv

The editor of the NYT suffers from the same selective cognition as Obama. He claims he “heard” about the initial revelations when he read about them in his paper!

NYT Reporter: Excellent news! So tell me, why are you trying to murder the Americans inside that compound?

  • kenai

Yep, and the NYT had reporter Walter Duranty on the scene in the Ukraine during the Holomodor when Stalin murdered 6-8 million Ukrainians by starvation during 1932-1933. Neither Walt or the NYT wanted to tarnish Stalin’s Progressive image so they cheerfully reported that there was plenty of food in the Ukraine, everyone was fat and sassy, move along now nothing to see here. Ol’ Walt even got a Pulitzer for his creative writing effort.

    Honest to God?!!!

I’m still throwing down the B.S. Flag for a fifty yard penalty.

It must take an awfully powerful “news organization” to keep this little tidbit. And that “reporter’s” name out of the tidal wave of other effluvium (and congressional witness subpoena lists) pouring forth from the left during its months long and now never ending battle to do damage control to a self inflicted, torpedoed administration!!!

    • Treelea

Lol lol. These people have no shame. “We had a reporter on the ground… Haha….was he one of the attackers showing that evil video he had on his satellite phone to the spontaneous rioters to fire them up. Haha

    • Onyx

The Benghazi reporters’ names have been readily available all along; they’re in the credits of the original Times story (9/13/2012). You really don’t get how journalism works, do you?

      • Jack Deth

I’ve known that “journalism” was replaced by propaganda in the early 1970s under the Jimmy Carter administration. Then kicked up a notch under Clinton. To become unregistered lobbyists and a full blown branch of the DNC and Obama under the present administration.

        What’s your point?

      • Jack Deth

        Since when is Cairo, Benghazi?

        • Onyx

“Suliman Ali Zway and Osama Alfitori contributed reporting from Benghazi.” Same credits as the original story.

          • Onyx

What are you talking about? Your question was, “Since when is Cairo, Benghazi?” I assumed that was rhetorical; clearly Cairo is not Benghazi. They’re 800 miles apart and in different countries. The author of the article, David Kirkpatrick, is the Cairo Bureau Chief and Mideast Correspondent for the Times. The reporter on the scene in Benghazi, talking to fighters during the attack, as stated in both the original article and the current one, was presumably one of the two award-winning Libyan reporters named above.

  • FaithColeridge33

Pfftttt…. SOS Hillary Clinton had an ambassador on the scene. Only he’s dead now.

    • Treelea

Killary missed her oppotunity to be a hero and send help to the 4 Americans under attack for hours. She failed her own 3am call test”. And now the NY Times bottom of the bird cage rag has the audacity of claiming that they had an American reporter on the ground with the spontaneous attackers so thats why they have superior knowledge of what happened. You can find out these facts in about ten minutes on the Internet, if you care. The Times story from 9/13/2012 plainly states that fighters involved in the assault were interviewed during the battle (and said that the video was a motivating factor). Reporting credits are given to “Osama Alfitory and Suliman Ali Zway” in Benghazi, Libya. If you look up those names, you’ll find an extensive article from the UK about these reporters (who won an award the previous year) and others like them: http://www.journalism.co.uk/news-features/-wherever-there-was-news-we-went–libya-s-a-team-fixers-on-getting-the-story-out/s5/a546770/.

Why weren’t these reporters attacked by the mobs so enraged by a video that they wanted to kill some Americans? Did they only want to kill certain Americans?

Waving a NYT press credential in the middle of a spontaneous riot is about the same as saying, “I’m with Al-Qaeda”

My guess is that this person was a Libyan with loyalty to one of the militias who was also a paid source for the NYT and probably responded with his militia. Why Kirkpatrick would want to word it in a way that makes the NYT culpable in the deaths of Americans just makes no sense.
