Good one! The makers of “Anchorman 2” have made sure that Will Farrell’s character, Ron Burgundy, has been seen everywhere possible, to the extent that Farrell co-anchored a real newscast at a North Dakota station to promote the film.

Lowe is not alone in feeling the media saturation. CBS News’ Mark Knoller is suffering promotional fatigue as well.

Some wiseguy had to say it.

Boy, are we sorry we missed this:

  • Jeff McCutcheon

I’m so tired of the ads and Ron everywhere that there is zero chance I see the movie.

  • radjahshelduck

I can dig it, he can dig it
She can dig it, we can dig it
They can dig it, you can dig it
    Oh, let’s dig it
    Can you dig it, baby

    • LegalizeShemp

“Can you dig it?” Sincerely, Cyrus

  • GaryTheBrave

There is an inverse ratio of quality entertainment and promotion. Great movies just need word of mouth.

  • kch50428

I was sick of the movie on the Dodge commercials alone…

  • Bathing Suit Area

It’s nearly 2014 and these people still haven’t learned how to avoid excessive advertising?

  • waltermitty2012

Anchorman 3: Revenge of the Teleprompter.

Anchorman 4: I’m As Mad As Hell, And I’m Not Going To Take This Anymore.

Anchorman 5: I’m Still As Mad As Hell, And I’m Still Not Going To Take This Anymore.
    Coming to theaters Fall 2014.

Whaddya know, there are benefits to not watching very much TV. I was blissfully unaware that Ferrell even had a new movie out. Long live streaming video!

  • nc ✓s & balances

I personally agree with all those commenting below and in the tweets above – and I never had any intention of seeing the film anyway.

However, never underestimate the ability of the sheeple to be swayed by media saturation. I bet the film will be a hit.

  • TugboatPhil ✓Mate

“I’ve seen so many promos campaign speeches, appearances and interviews by Will Ferrell of Obama over past weeks the last 7 years, I feel like I don’t need to see the Anchorman movie President anymore.”

    FIFY Mark!

  • Garym

There was even an Anchorman 2 promo, in the 1/2 hour worth of promos, before the 2hr 45min movie of the new Hobbit movie this weekend. (a medium drink is 64 oz. in movie theaters these days)

    • svobodnik

      You said “medium” drink????

  • mishong

Can’t stand Ferrell, or Carey, or Dick, or any comic who can’t get out of character

    • Corey Dennison

That’s the problem with Ferrell –> he’s the same character in every movie he’s in. Yawn.

      • mishong

The saturation of promos with Ferrell stinks of desperation. The movie must really suck

  • PatMac

If the movie theater was across the street, you bought me a ticket, and gave me $10 for popcorn and soda, I still wouldn’t go see it!

  • chrisl

The hype and promotion are always inversely proportional to the quality of the film. It’s the “Judge Dredd Theorem.”

    • svobodnik

Ah…..the poor Judge Dredd movie. Someday……someone will correctly cast Judge Dredd.

    • LegalizeShemp

      “That’s not true!” Sincerely, Ishtar

  • svobodnik

Ferrell is talented. The problem is to “tease” the audience, not to overwhelm them. Question though – can you really go back and plumb Ron Burgandy again? His face makes me laugh, but you need a knock-out co-star cast. In the first movie Ferrell was a 70s style manly-man, womanizing, “sexist” anachronism with the corresponding Burt Reynolds mustache. Where do you go with Part II?

    • Ben Bollman

Yeah, Anchorman was a good movie that didn’t need a sequel.

  • fireandreamitchell

They aren’t the only ones. Anchorman itself wasn’t even that funny. Ferrell’s only good performance was in Step Brothers.

    • soxfan4evah

I’m a Ricky Bobby fan myself.

  • Emily B

I can’t be the only one who doesn’t think Will Ferrell is funny, right? Who’s with me??

    • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

You are not alone. But you are as the little boy, to Ferrell’s naked Emperor.

    • tom

I have NEVER understood how he gets work. One of the most unfunny people in the business. Steve Carell a close second.

      • Emily B

I will have to disagree with you about Steve Carell. I think he is hysterical!! But I, too, have always wondered how some of these “comedians” get work. I guess stupid is the new funny.

    • Gregor Eisenstein

I know…he put up that ‘Funny or Die’ website, but he still hasn’t died yet.

  • Eclectic Art

Maybe you guys should read more books and watch less tv!!! I am looking forward to Anchorman 2.

    • brewerandpatriot

“I have many leather bound books, and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.”

  • PatriotRG

its kind of a big deal

  • Phishfan52

Loved the first one but the relentless promos are getting worried that they know they have a bad movie on their hands this time and are going over the top with promos. Hope I’m wrong.

  • paladin63

Audience ADD… people buying tickets to movies in which the actor plays the same “character “over and over…. and over

  • © Sponge

The main reason for a media blitz like this is the production company KNOWS the product sucks and will try anything to get some of it’s money back.

Reminds me of “The Last Action Hero” where the soundtrack outsold the movie.

  • Ben Bollman

I loved Anchorman. Pretty sure it didn’t need a sequel though.

  • marssnw

Not a fan of Will Ferrell but I do love the movie, “The Elf”. One of the funniest moments. (Angry ELF)

  • Orpheus75

As a general rule, if it has WIll Ferral in it, it will be stupid and not worth a penny nor a second of my time to watch. Kind of like the other SNL “comedians” that have crossed over to film. I will not watch them. Right up there with Jim Carrey.
