In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, actor Matt Damon says that he wishes he didn’t have to send his children to a private school, but “the private school that I send my kids to is the thing closest to the public school that I went to that I could find.” So there.

https://twitter.com/jaketapper/status/401403488514482176

Tapper also managed to revive Damon’s feud with Jeb Bush, begun this summer when Bush tweeted this:

“I’d eat my shoe if he [Jeb Bush] could name a Bush that ever even walked into a public school, but that’s another story,” Damon concluded.

There’s nothing wrong with private school if you send your child there for the right reasons. (because something about the school particularly benefits your child, and not for prestige) And school choice and/or vouchers can hopefully make that possible for families who otherwise would not be able to afford it.

We all know why his kids went to private schools. It’s called reality. No one with any sense(or money) would send their kids to those gang-ridden hellholes in Los Angeles. But Damon can’t admit it because the gravy train he’s riding would dry up quicker than a patch of grass in Death Valley. In short, he’s a coward. Yet when anyone else makes the same decision they’re called racist. Stick it where the sun don’t shine, Damon!

  • Arian Smith

This dude is a millionaire that makes a living pretending to be someone else. Im supposed to take him seriously?

  • John Howard

Hey Matt, what will you do if the president declares your choice of schools is ‘lousy’ and he mandates you to go with another one of HIS choosing?

  • OingoBoingo

Let me get this right – he acknowledges that his support for failing schools, which involves forcing others to send their kids to those failing schools, is based on how schools used to be back when he went to school and because schools aren’t what they used to be as they are failing and bad for kids he sends his kids to private school. Thank you Matt for that painful logic there. My brain is hurting just trying to repeat that idiotic logic you have presented.

    • OingoBoingo

“Schools are bad so I don’t send my kids, but schools used to be good so you need to send your kids to those bad schools.” ~Matt Damon

  • radicallyalyssa

I prefer homeschooling or private schooling to public schools, solely because I understand how mediocre the public system is. Liberal teachers indoctrinating kids to think a specific way – luckily I escaped that brainwashing, but too many people haven’t.

Stunning hypocrisy. Matt Damon win’s the 2013 Hypocrisy Championships. Let’s see if he can out do himself in 2014. He can explain what else is good enough for the American public. Substandard – mediocre health insurance coverage? Who want’s the over/under ?

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ Mike

Damon must have been thinking of the Clintons and Obamas when it comes to only sending their kids to the finest private schools.

    • Part138

While I’m not crazy about defending the Clintons, (-: Chelsea apparently went to a public school in Arkansas until her father was elected President. I’m guessing Governor’s Mansions are located in pretty good neighborhoods (here in MA we don’t have one) so that doesn’t surprise me.

      • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ Mike

Clinton was still pretty small potatoes in Arkansas, but it was Sidwell Friends all the way in DC!

        • Part138

          Was he against school choice?

          • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ Mike

Not as rabidly as Obama, but yes. The teachers unions are big Dem contributors.

        • Part138

I read that Chelsea supposedly went there because private schools are off limits to the media. Shouldn’t public schools be too?

          • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ Mike

They are. Try wandering onto a public school campus without a valid reason to be there. Shouldn’t matter whether the kid is the president’s or a celebrity’s or some crackhead who just made yesterday’s newspaper. Visitors have to be cleared through school administrators or they are subject to removal.
If school security proves inadequate, the school can call law enforcement.

  • Matt Vaughn

Why let little things like facts get in the way of your hypocritical ideology?

  • Grace656

What’s interesting is how he first talks up the public schools as if they are comparable and even looked for a private school that came closest to duplicating a public school – then he outright disparages them putting on a hillbilly accent and saying Billy Bush might come forward and say “man, I went to public schools.”

The truth is never far from the surface.

  • Mita

So, it’s like telling us all to feed our children McDonald’s, and that it’s so good for them that we should go there and make sure they get 3 square meals a day from McDonald’s, yet you pay a private chef to make sure your kids eat paleo and never taste McDonald’s.

I get it. You’re better than us. I see.

You know what I find most interesting, especially with Damon, Affleck and some of the other east and west coast elitists, is there still is no better defense of any of their opinions (do they really have any of their own) other than it is Bush’s fault? I guess that is the line Harvey and the rest of the Hollywood gang gave to the Prez and they figured what the heck. If you really have no intellectual basis for whatever your opinion may be than “Bush lied and people died”, is as good as anything else.

Matt Damon please stick to acting. Hypocrites should avoid politics.

  • http://readingscripture.org Ron Henzel

Matt Damon said, “I’d eat my shoe if he could name a Bush that ever even walked into a public school.”

When he says “walked into a public school,” does he mean the way George W. Bush walked into Sarasota, Florida’s Emma E. Booker Elementary School on September 11, 2001, where he later was reading a book to the children there as the planes crashed into the Twin Towers? Since Booker Elementary is part of Sarasota County Schools—a public school district—its administration, faculty, staff, and students will sure be surprised to learn that it’s not a public school. But far be it from me, a mere non-Hollywood nobody, to question the omniscience of anyone whose role in the entertainment industry obviously qualifies him as an expert in these things.

    • http://aztommycat.wordpress.com/ Tommycat
