Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is in Iowa tonight, prompting Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak to declare him the first of “a Mt. Rushmore of Republican extremists who will run in 2016.” Ryback is certainly no fan of Cruz, tweeting earlier today:

Ryback spoke to TheRun2016.com, making it clear that Democrats “would seek to link Cruz to every Republican running for office in 2014,” probably much as former Rep. Todd “Legitimate Rape” Akin was somehow made the spokesperson for all Republicans in 2012. The only problem: Cruz is well-known and hugely popular with supporters.

Said Ryback, “Everybody in Iowa is happy that Ted Cruz is here, the Republicans love him as a poster child and we love him as a poster child because it reminds everybody how extreme the party has gotten.” Ever notice that no one ever calls the Democrat Party extreme?

Cruz speaks tonight at the Ronald Reagan Day dinner in Iowa, where the “old guard” didn’t fare so well with the crowd.

  • Catchance

Shorter Rybak: I couldn’t think of anything clever.

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil ✓Mate

Even shorter Rybak: “I can’t think.”

      • al hunt

        EVEN shorter Rybak “DERP!”

        • Sean Barrentine

Who is Rybak? Most of the people I know if you mentioned that name would assume you meant Ryback. Funnily enough, Ryback’s on-stage persona is aggressive, but not terribly intelligent, and uses the catchphrase, “Feed me more”. Kinda sounds like a Democrat.

    • V the K

Also, “People who want the Government to spend less money and abide by the Constitution are crazy radical extremists.”

      • dwsmokin

Don’t forget those that actually represent the views of their constituents. It seems the left forgets that the 49% that voted against them also deserves representation. A fact they conveniently ignore.

        • Mark81150 Never/Trump/Hillary

Yet when one of ours wins the WH, they expect/demand we tailor every act as if they had won the election.. “You have to respect the public which didn’t vote for you”

somebody carve that in stone, and slap Obama with it..

Dissent iis cherished in the democrat party ONLY when the dissent is from them..

          everybody else?

          “SHUT UP TRAITOR”….

          • dwsmokin

Of course-that’s how they operate. When they do it, it’s patriotism. When we do it, it’s dissent. The Democrat way.

    • OneThinDime

Rybak is one drink short of Governor Mark the Drunk Dayton.

  • Matt

    Wanting responsible government is extreme.

Wanting to expand government into every facet of life is not extreme.

    These people are disturbed.

    • me

Disturbed is an understatement. I would say that the whole ‘progressive’ gang should be in a padded cell, writing their memoirs in Crayola.

      • Matt

I wouldn’t even give them crayons. They’d try stabbing out their eyes or eating them or something.

  • Barry A. Brewer

No one ever calls the Demonrats “extreme” because when you are THAT bat-shyte crazy, everything else seems normal.

    • dwsmokin

It’s funny how they resort to the word “racist” so often, in an effort to brand someone as hating blacks. Yet they viciously attack everyone who disagrees with them. So a racist hates 13% of the population, but a Liberal hates 49% So, the question becomes, who is the real “hater” here? And why would they believe themselves better than the rest?

  • ConservaWynne

I don’t get it. The guys on Mt Rushmore are pretty awesome to me. I think it’d be an honor to be compared to them.

Teddy Kennedy WAS an idiot, but he’s not on Mt. Rushmore.

        • b_truit

Agreed. But Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt was “GOP” but was was a huge progressive. I could of picked a better one to put up there with the other presidents.

          • trixiewoobeans

I know, just messin’ with you.

          • trixiewoobeans

He did some really good things, it seems the Progressivism crept in later. I question what Progressivism then, as opposed to now, entails. Guess I better study it.

          • Mark81150 Never/Trump/Hillary

Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive, who did champion some good things, child labor laws, the federal inspection of food, because people were being poisoned by unethical meat processors..

all good, no one argues against that..

The problem, was he opened the door for the progressives to run amuck..He’d be shocked you could bet, by the extent to which modern progressives have waged war on an individuals right to do as they please with their life.

I doubt he could have applauded Obamacare..

“forcing” people to do things was against everything he personally believed in. How can a man be free, if his “choices” are dictated by a government drunk on it’s own power?

    • Squirrel!

Washington, Jefferson & Lincoln anyway. I’m kinda on the fence with Lincoln. I think the history we were taught is revised. I agree with the outcome of freed slaves but not too sure about the rest of it.

      • trixiewoobeans

I think there’s been so much mud slung by history revisionists on Lincoln, we’ll never know now. The panic in Liberal circles when their noses were rubbed in his “Republicanism,” and their subsequent attempts to give him a black eye to prevent any Prog. sympathies toward Republicans, have muddied the waters badly.

        • Squirrel!

My issues with Lincoln: First income tax (to fund war); going against the Constitution by not just allowing states to do their own thing; he didn’t want the states to secede for economic reasons hence war (it wasn’t about freeing ppl). I’ll await being called a racist now. History is distorted for many reasons and it’s a shame because we should know how our own history.

Jeez, sounds like Ted Baxter might actually have been one of the more intelligent people in the Cities.

And there I was, thinking people in Minnesota were “above average.”

  • BoscoBolt

So, Ted Cruz is an “EXTREMIST” like Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln?

“EXTREMIST”? Liberals really are idiots. But, at least this dope recognizes that Ted Cruz, and some other (unnamed) Republicans posses the qualities of a true leader.

    • ObamaFail

Maybe that’s why Cruz is labeled an extremist by Democrats. Someone who stands for America and not for Socialism is someone they don’t want in power, so that’s why they try to demonize them with slanderous “extremists” claims.

    • me

Cruz, the EXTREEEME candidate! That might win over the under thirty crowd.

  • Scorpion

Mayor Rybak has short term memory loss. Didn’t Obama say that he took the keys away from the Republicans after his car was in the ditch? He must have seen the limo with gas in its diesel gas tank go over the cliff with Obamacare in the trunk.

  • Maxx

It’s always adorable to get election advice from the opposing party. They write that Cruz is a death sentence for the right and yet, feel compelled to somehow report this as if to WARN conservatives and independents? Democrats coming to our rescue!
    What a joke.

They’re scared of Ted. Believe it. I was a Reagan Democrat from 1980 forward but finally left the party for good in 2007. Liberals attack that which they fear. Always have. Always will. It’s Chapter One in their playbook.

Ted Cruz is a B-51 flying directly over their heads and the left can feel the ground shake beneath them. It’s Cruz 24-7 at MSNBC for a reason.

    • trixiewoobeans

      He’s a Cruzzzzzz Missile.

    • ObamaFail

Cruz is in a speedboat while the Dems are sitting in a little rowboat yelling terrorists at the oars for not rowing themselves.

  • ObamaFail

Why is it that no one ever calls the party who actually allies themselves with terrorists the extremists? Obama armed Al-Qaeda for pete’s sake. Obama and Hillary tried to protect terrorists from justice by trying to cover up the Benghazi attack. So if anyone is extremists, it’s the party who seems to not like calling the actual terrorists “extremists.”

On a side note, none of the Benghazi terrorists have been brought to justice yet. The only arrest they’ve really made was the video maker they blamed the whole thing on when they were pushing the phony “It was a protest gone wrong because of a Youtube video” talking point.

  • ObamaFail

Democrat logic says that Republicans are terrorists for wanting to protect America from too much government control and to prevent an inevitable economic collapse (only a moron thinks spending trillion dollar deficits every year can go on forever). Democrat logic also says that Republicans are terrorists for wanting to delay a law that the majority of Americans never wanted and that was so bad the Dems exempted themselves from it (Obamacare). Democrat logic also says that these are “Freedom Fighters”:

    • Squirrel!

You’re calling it “logic.” I’m not so sure. I have also marveled at all that you said. It really makes no sense, does it? It has to be the power of the omissions, spins & lies made by the MSM which most people only pay attention to. Honestly, if Benghazi hadn’t happened last year, I’d still be pretty low info. Ever since , I make it my business to find out what I can. A lot of people only have time in their lives for what the evening news is spoon feeding them. I’ve pretty much given up on the TV for current events. Also have to consider the hardcore, mentally unstable Koolaid drinkers.

  • ObamaFail

    Who are the extremists again?

    • me

Democraps supporting terrorists? Why not? Didn’t Obummer get his political ‘education’ from Bill Ayers of the terrorist organization Weather Underground? Why all of these people aren’t in jail is a bafflement and a consternation with me.

  • me

Only a self-loathing Swede in ‘progressive’ clothing would try to slam someone by comparing them to the giants of Mt. Rushmore. What a maroon!

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

Tell me, Democrats, is Cruz extreme for wanting to delay Obamacare (which Democrats up for re-election next year are proposing) or for opposing raising the debt ceiling (which Obama did over five years ago)?

  • http://www.vatican.va/ Rulz

Don’t pay any attention to this guy. He crammed a new sports stadium down the throat of the citizens in violation of the city’s charter.

Rybak has failed in many ways as a mayor.

He’s also doing this just to score political points to advance his career.

And isn’t it racist to criticize Ted Cruz by progressive standards?

    • Cal

He also brought in these refugees from Somalia, some of which have turned into jihadis. It’s only a matter of time before they stop heading back overseas to terrorize people, and start doing it here instead. • Jeremy

Minnesota enough said. That state is full of too many lefty loons that for instance gave us the moron Al Franken.

Sorry guys, I’m not sure who took the muzzle off Rybak. I don’t live in Minneapolis though (just the suburbs), so blame the libtards that live downtown.

  • bo1921

I predict that ten years from now no one will even remember rybak. BTW, is it just me or is the new leftist/media meme to use the word “extreme” when talking about the Conservative wing of the Republican party? The way these lefties are going, by the fall of 2014 that word will have been extremely (pun intended) overused.

  • BeukendaalMason

Wait… doesn’t the real Mt Rushmore already have 4 extremists on it (according to Democrats)? Washington who fought for individuals to have freedom and rule over their own government. Jefferson who promoted individual rights over government tyranny. Lincoln who ended slavery a law that Democrats said could not be overturned because it was “the law of the land”. And (Theodore) Roosevelt who lead the US into becoming a World Power, destroyed the patron system in government, and set aside portions of the US for the public (ie private citizens use). No wonder a Democrat would use Mt Rushmore as a “libel” against a Republican, they both stand against the Democrats belief of State power of individual rights (oh and slavery).

  • BAW

I don’t know if it’s always been so but someone getting elected and doing what they honestly said they would, is currently “extreme” in the: exceeding the ordinary, usual, or expected – sense of the word.

Obama’s promise to “fundamentally transform” the nation doesn’t count because so few people understood what he meant, so many misunderstood.
