First, author Joyce Carol Oates came for the guns, and we said nothing. (Actually, you on Twitter said quite a bit.) Now, she’s coming after meat, claiming that one day, our culture will look on meat-eating as it does on slavery.
Slavery analogies are tricky business, for some more than others. Joyce Carol Oates at one point compared the non-binding petition to deport CNN gun scold Piers “Musket” Morgan to “the blood bonding of lynching” and linked to photos of “crucified Negroes.”

Human beings are "animals"–in fact, "mammals." Claim that "animals" don't have souls may be correct but does not change essential equation.

That human beings are "animals" is hardly a new idea, & it is hardly original with me! Amazing that anyone could seriously think so.

Rather than think we are somehow "lowered" by our designation as animals we should think that animals are "elevated." Kindness, justice.

Food for thought, or a bunch of baloney?

@JoyceCarolOates That is most certainly true. We'll feel the same way about eating a pig as we now feel about eating a dog.
