“Yikes” was Michael Reagan’s reaction to the news that Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday signed legislation allowing more than two people to be listed as a child’s parents. The Sacramento Bee reports:

Senate Bill 274 authorizes a court to recognize more than two parents if endorsing fewer would be “detrimental” to the child.

[Sen. Mark] Leno’s measure grew out of an appellate court case involving a biological mother, her same-sex partner and a man who had an affair with the mother while she was temporarily separated from her female lover. In the 2011 case, the California Court of Appeal held that courts could not recognize more than two parents even if doing so would protect the child from harm.

Leno said in an interview that he expected the law to be used “sparingly.”

“Used sparingly”? What was that they used to say about abortion?

  • Axelgreaser

POOR COMMUNIST CALIFORNIA! It will take generations to clean up the mess the liberals in the ‘Obama Epoch’ wrought on this poor, (and getting poorer) stoned state. Really, someday when sanity prevails, they need to clear out Oregon and jail all the liberals that woke up one morning with a cocaine booger and a pot hangover, sat bolt upright in bed and screamed out: (Eureka!) “We need to fundamentally change America!” Except they would never want to live in a socialistic country with a dictator in charge. But that is the stoned liberal mind. Within five years Californians will be marrying their cats and dogs. In the cities dogs and cats aren’t banned. Did you know that? Its true. In some parts of California they decided there were too many of the critters and it was causing them ‘problems.’ House pets are the least of California’s worries, it’s the lunatics they keep sending to Washington, D.C.

    • VerminMcCann

Well yeah, but at least lawyers are going to get rich arguing about how inheritance works now.

Where in California do you live or have you lived in the past?

      • Axelgreaser

I was born in Seattle. A liberal mess and breeding grounds for loons. California is like my state, Illinois. A MESS by liberals, unions and is a squatter state for illegal’s. I am just as angry with Illinois as I am with California. California has GOT to get rid of these crumbs or we are all going to fall. Sadly, you are losing industry and CONSERVATIVE voters because of the situation you are facing. I sympathize with you, but I scour the news (what there is) and all I see are liberal lunatics protesting for ‘more, more, more’ and being pandered to by the corrupt polico’s, so I know you are being silenced, but you’ve got to work at it like we are here in EQUALLY communist Illinois. The entire system is fraudulent, in fact when I voted this last election I wondered if my vote would even count, though voting in Illinois is almost a waste of time. Almost. We have a government that is rife with crime, ie, Obama and Holder’s IRS! Sorry if you took offense, but I’m offended at the mess liberals are making of all our lives. Please exempt yourself from my broad sweeping remarks, but the one’s they were pointed at know who they are. I can’t be ‘PC’ regarding either pathetic state.

        • Michelle ✓classified

So, you’ve never lived in CA. Got it. Please see my comment above. I am as tired of the rest of my country trashing my home as I am about the Liberals destroying it.

          • Axelgreaser

I saw your comment. Please feel free to trash my state all you wish, because it will either be your state or mine that the liberal’s use to destroy the nation. Illinois deserves every trashy remark pointed at it and I’m not in the least bit sensitive about it.

          • Michelle ✓classified

I don’t trash entire states. I trash the people responsible for destroying a state, and in the majority of situations that is Democrats. I always remain aware that in each state under Liberal control there are still Americans fighting to make a change.

I know. I grieve for Seattle and the entire West Coast. For the nation, actually. At least they have sane people there like yourself fighting against the lunacy that goes beyond people whining because their state has been called out as ‘communist’, because that’s exactly where this is all leading towards. That is exactly the faction Van Jones represented in Oakland where he was squatting and agitating and was finally rewarded by Obama and Jarret with a ‘Czarship.’ What an appropriate name for these people…’Czars.’ Best of luck and a ^5 to you!

Once again, let me remind folks that only 43% of registered voters in California are Democrats. Jerry Brown won with only 53% of the vote (not exactly a landslide). Trash JERRY BROWN and not the entire state. More than HALF in this state are not Democrats. Almost half did not vote for this man. When you trash the entire state, you are also writing off those of us fighting for it. Stand WITH us in our fight and stop attacking the entire state. The Liberals are in control because of VOTER FRAUD and countless illegal aliens voting along with dead people and dogs. 57% of us in CA are NOT Democrats – stop trashing us. Ronald Reagan is buried 20 mins from my home, let us not forget where he came from. We can get back there again, but not if the rest of the United States of America writes us off.

I am old enough to remember that California once stood for optimism and opportunity, and am heartened that that spirit still lives on in some.
Ironically, being an ex-liberal, my first doubts about left-liberalism started in grad school in CA, when confronted with the results of the more insane liberal policies.

      • Michelle ✓classified

Thank you NCT – the spirit does still live here, only it doesn’t make interesting news or fit the Liberal agenda so the media downplays it.

I can tell you this, and I’ve said these things countless times on here:

During the 2012 election, EVERY yard sign in my neighborhood was for Romney/Ryan. Not ONE for Obama. Same goes for bumper stickers.

My Rep in the US House is a Republican

My Rep in the CA State Assembly is a Republican

I live on a street with 24 houses, 18 of them (including my own) display the American flag and not just on holidays, but EVERY day.

Democrats have LOST registered voters here in the last decade.

I stand up and speak out for my home, as do most of my friends and neighbors, and it sure would be nice to know that fellow Americans stand beside us instead of acting like we don’t exist. If the rest of America wants to give up on me, then eventually I will give up on it.

        • StotheOB

prior to the 2012 election, in the Long Beach area, I could literally not find a single person who could say a positive thing about Obama and everyone claimed they were going to vote R …then the election happened and it was once again proven to be nothing more then noise.

Wasn’t just 2012 either. When Star Parker couldn’t get more then 30% in a huge Republican wave election while everyone was seeing/hearing the same exact anti-Dem/anti-Obama sentiments from everyone on the street… well that should have been a gigantic neon sign saying the progress people thought was being made is a lot more wishful thinking then actual reality.

And with the great tax-payer flight currently taking place – well good luck reversing that trend anytime soon.

          • Michelle ✓classified

Again VOTER FRAUD. I’m OK with you giving up on me, you’re not all that pleasant. I’ll keep you in my prayers. And by the way, it’s than, not then. Than indicates a comparison, then is a point in time. How’s that for a Kallyphornya edge-uh-muh-caaaaaaaaaaaaaaytion?

          • StotheOB

okay, didn’t see this before and honestly, it makes me question why I even defended you above…

If I am “not very pleasant” to you because I know full well the problems and am not afraid to state them in an attempt to hopefully get someone to do something about it (as opposed to your apparently head-in-the-sand approach and poor-me attitude towards anyone stating reality – a very California tendency though, I will admit) on top of your nitpicking of my 3am spelling, well… maybe you are much more responsible for the problems you experience with others then you are willing to come to grips with (again, a very Californian tendency)

        • grais

Tell me about it…the Very Worst of Superstorm Sandy’s destruction in NJ was dealt to the very red Monmouth & Ocean county coast. It wasn’t easy reading all the ‘compassionate conservatives’ screaming, “FU north-east liberals—You deserve it, scum!” and worse.
I gave up trying to explain it to people who were rabid in their vilification of me and my neighbors. Got more downvotes than I could count–right here on Twitchy.

Grais – I admit I may have contributed to that and I did apologize to you. I’m in a NE liberal state too and even I thought such things. • Sean Barrentine

Good luck, and I mean it. Don’t look like it’ll be easy, but not much worth fighting for in life ever is.

    • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

Exactly. There’s a lot of conservative-leaning people in CA. More than the actual population of a number of states. And 7 out of 25 of the most conservative cities (with a pop of over 100,000) in US are in California. It’s a huge ass state people.

      • Michelle ✓classified

I think people tend to ignore that because it’s just so fun to trash California. Some really oughta take a look at those lame blue/red maps, they’d be in for quite an eye-opener. There’s a whole lotta red in this state.

        • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

Sadly, when people think of CA, they immediately think of the hippies in SF and the Hollyweirdos. They don’t represent the WHOLE state, which is very diverse. I live in Oakland, which is actually beautiful, despite the media stereotype, but sometimes the city’s politics makes me agree with the CA bashers… ugh

          • Michelle ✓classified

I’ve learned along the way, those who bash, trash and talk sh*t about California have never even been here, let alone lived here. I live in LA County, it’s a REPUBLICAN area of Los Angeles, but folks just wanna stick to their ill-informed opinions and call it La La Land. I’m tired of aligning myself with people who bash and trash my home. Losing interest REAL fast.

          • StotheOB

My entire family has left California in the last three years, with parts of us moving to Texas, Arizona and Utah (while we lived in Newport/HB, and LongBeach while in California). Each of us have found that many of our new neighbors are actually our old neighbors, with all of us truly being shocked at the sheer volume of Ex-(Southern)Cali residents we have meet. (you honestly cant go anywhere without being able to find at least one, I have personally found. Even meet a person who literally lived in my old neighborhood!)

Not surprisingly, all of us left for the same reasons and have the same exact complaints about our old home. And with our each seeing more and more businesses following us workers to our new locations, we know it is a trend that is probably unlikely to really reverse anytime soon.

Don’t give up, of course, as you never know… but you do also have to realize there is a gigantic population of you who has moved onto greener pastures as well, and many of them are sharing their horror stories with people who may not have been there to realize there are many Conservatives still there fighting the fight (or preparing for their own flight).

Plus, the one huge thing California does having going for it, which might point to a possibility in the future, is the fact that almost every single vote put before the actual people goes their way (from death penalty to 3 strikes to gay marriage and on and on and on) – the population is inherently Conservative in nature, but so ingrained, scare-mongered and coerced into voting Blue that it never ends up showing in personal elections (that shows a huge hurdle to overcome for a Republican party which has often times been found shooting their own feet more then actually their enemy to gain ground in a State that is getting out of reach and too broken to fix)

You also have to realize the Conservative wing of California is greatly overshadowed by the unbelievably insane Liberal policies which are nearly daily coming about – and that, coupled with the stories from us flighters is going to be the driving force behind most of the outside criticism you get frustrated coming up against

We pray for you and California’s future, we do… but all of us also left after our own long fights; a fight that is probably (sadly) unwinable at this point (things are rapidly getting worse, not better. And as I said before, what was thought of as possible gains really turned out to be next to nothing)

        • Jay Stevens

True, but like Chicago and Illinois, what happens in the densely populated urban areas drives state and national politics.

I grew up in downstate Illinois. Downstate Illinois is pretty conservative, but the only way to offset the corrupt, Democratic political machine of Cook County is for everyone downstate to vote Republican. And that just will not happen.

        • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

It’s really a tale of two states, and Southern California is one of the most Conservative areas you can find, honestly. If they split the thing in two just north of LA, Republicans would likely not lose a national election for the next 40+ years.

So yeah, she is very correct in her defense of that portion of it. (and that split is something each of us should be working towards by spreading that reality to as many as we can) What all of you are upset about is merely the North (which SoCal’ers generally hate with a passion themselves) and LA-City proper (as is the case in many big-cities, even in Conservative states)

(taking out the rest of this post as she has since gone through and proven that your over the top attitude isn’t as out of place with her immaturity as I first thought)

There was a time when CA was so Republican that the DNC wrote it off as unwinnable. Today the GOP takes the same attitude. The pendulum is swinging back I believe.

        • Guest

Yes, and there was a time when bankrupt 89% black Detroit was wealthy and 90% white. It’s time to stop living in the past. If we at some point in the future reclaim these trashed and ruined cities and states, all well and good. But you can’t defend a state and ban me from speaking the truth about it simply because once upon a time, it wasn’t that bad.

          • GaryTheBrave

IF WE CAN RECLAIM THEM we must. Anywhere, everywhere we can push back progressivism so we can implement real progress is healthy for the area, the country, and even the world.

Some people like Michelle will be on the ground and on the inside to fight. Others like myself will be on the outside trying to muster resources for the fight.

Ever since Obama was re-elected I have seen several comments here on Twitchy about surrendering and moving out. I’ve even said it. Not anymore. It is time all of us to dig in our heels and fight the scourge that is destroying our country. We must fight right where we stand. If you try to escape it will follow you. Stop running, turn around, and stare straight into it’s eyes. You will see that it fears you.

          • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

It does seem that the liberals practice a scorched earth policy wherein they destroy what they take over like locusts leaving nothing left to reclaim. Whereas conservatives build wealth which attracts the liberal like a pile of sugar attracts ants. Given such a scenario, the migratory pattern may only work in one direction.

Very well said. Washington State is a prime example of this. Boeing and Microsoft created a lot of wealth and opportunity in this state which once had Republican governors and senators. Then the Californians moved in and we have not had a Republican governor or senator in decades.

Bush was born/raised in Connecticut, but lived most of his life in Texas and served as Governor there. Therefore, people refer to him as being from and associate him with Texas. Reagan lived in CA for the majority of his life in addition to serving as Governor here. Get. It. Now?

          • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

“let us not forget where he came from.”

            Get it now?

  • Zach Peterson

This is CA people, you really surprised? It’ll only change once we go through a Chinese style revolution where the sodomites are hung from every light post. But, until then…shut tfu.

  • AmericanMom

If California happened to crumble and break off into the sea, how many liberals and leaches would disappear?

    • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

A lot of conservatives would also disappear…

      • Michelle ✓classified

57% of the population who is NOT Democrat would disappear, but apparently the rest of the country doesn’t give a f*ck about us. (it’s also physically impossible for CA to “break off into the sea”, those dang tectonic plates kinda sorta prevent that)

        • StotheOB

You have to realize that most of your state doesnt give a F* about you either, sadly.

You, and all others in SoCal / the NorthernTip are there for no other reason then to pay the taxes. Meanwhile, the state is home to roughly 1/3 of all Welfare recipients in the US, and a dominating Democrat Party which has gerrymandered the districts and bought off the special interests to ensure you will not matter for a long time coming.

That is why all the taxpayers, including myself, are/have left (I did so last year, thankfully!)

Its sadly done for the state. Even if Republicans could manage to make some strides against the districting, it wouldn’t matter much with the unavoidable financial destruction on the horizon.

The only real shot California has is for the politicians to do what has needed to be done for a long time now; that is, slice it in two just above LA. The problem with that though is that it would not only cut the purse strings for the North, but it would also flat out ruin the Democrat Party on the national level so it is almost guaranteed not to happen.

          • Michelle ✓classified

Thank you “fellow” American. And by the way, excellent moniker and most fitting.

          • StotheOB

…oh, no wonder I didnt notice the above post – you are slowly going back and editing your replies to make sure you are as much of a B* as you can possibly be.

Yeah, see that type of mentality is exactly why so many of us have left the state to begin with (and boy do the Ex-Cali residents have plenty to say on that topic…)

There is a renewed effort to create the new State of Jefferson out of the very northern counties along with some southern counties of OR.

A couple of years ago a San Bernardino County supervisor started a move to make the Inland Empire its own state.

Two biological parents, yes. Last I checked, they’re not necessarily the same thing as legal parents.

I’m looking forward to the first 268,000-parent birth certificate. On the premise that “it takes a village to raise a child.”

Actually, when children are born to welfare queens (1/3 of America’s dole bludgers live in California), every single American taxpayer should get their name on the birth certificate. If our paychecks are going to be raided to feed, clothe, house, educate, entertain and provide medical care for these kids, shouldn’t we all have some say in their upbringing?

Awesome, I’m signing up too so I can collect the child tax credit. It sure beats paying someone $200 to use their kid’s Social Security number.

  • melle1228

I have never known it to be to a child’s detriment to NOT have three parents. This is just legal ignorance. What happens when the two females split up? That child now has to be shuttled between three homes for visitation. When mom gets a new honey; does that mean she can give that partner legal parental rights as well. This is opening a huge can of worms, and all for the narcissism of the adults. The only one who loses is the parent who isn’t involved in the couple and the mostly the child.

    • Idl

To some of these people, a child is just a fashion accessory. They won’t even consider that they might do the child any harm.

When I first read the headline, I though maybe it was for acknowledging step-parents. That would not be quite as big of a stretch, but this is absurd.

  • Marvin Nelson

Why is anyone surprised about this? We are talking about CA, where idiots and libs go to die. Bunch of morons-I don’t care what they do as long as they don’t spread their poison to the rest of the country.

    • TatteredTimes

Of course you say you don’t care because you don’t understand that most of the people in California are conservative. The state is run by the democrat progressives and unions. The state has been carved up over the last number of decades to keep the dems in power forever. That along with the lying media the covers for them just like they are covering for Obama now.
They are infesting every state in the union. Be careful who you laugh at because you soon will be laughing at yourself.

  • Terry

Who on earth would want to be the 3rd “parent”? All this would do is put them on risk of paying child support to the other parties.

  • John Alvarado

So, kids could have 12 parents and only 2 be biological and the rest are step parents or foster parents. So, who do they listen to in the end?

  • floridavet

First there was he. Then there was she. And then there was he’ing and she’in.

In California, that quickly became he’ing and he’ing and she’ing and she’in.

Now they’ve invented the third parent…

So, will it be Mama & Papa & Papa….or

    Mama & Mama & Papa….or

    Mama & Mama & Mama….or

    Papa & Papa & Papa….

So, does that mean there’s now “he-ing and he’ing and she’ing?” — or

    He’ing & He’ing & He’ing?” – or

    He’ing & She’in & She’ing?” — or

    “She’ing & She’ing & She’ing?”…

    So, what’s next – “Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice….& Fido?”

Dialog from the movie “Moonstruck” (1987)
Cosmo Castorini: What’s the matter, Pop?
    Old Man: [crying] I’m confused!

  • BoscoBolt

Well, since Brown recently signed into law that non-physcians can perform abortions, and considering that California does not require parental consent or notification for ANY minor, no matter how young, to have an abortion – children, and the need for parents, will soon be a thing of the past in California.

  • AL G

Is it too late to sell California to Mejico for $ 1.00?

  • Kat

I see a lot of messy future custody battles between the original three “parents”. Just saying.

  • Ryan Johnson

My first thought was, “Well if it’s teen parents and they’re too irresponsible and -their- parents wanted to be legal in case of emergencies, that’s different.” Then I read the actual article and OF COURSE it couldn’t be -that-.

Mark my words, they will start legalizing incest and pedophilia. In fact, there are several cases of high profile Libtards suggesting there is nothing wrong with incest or pedophilia, some of the even defended that crap publicly.

  • hatsylady

California is just phoning it in nowadays folks. They’re so insane, that the insane don’t recognize them anymore. Nothing can be done for them. It’s sad, such a prosperous, beautiful state. It’s like having a nitwit relative and no matter how you try to help them, they keep doing stupid things. After a while you say, nitwit, you’re on your own. You can’t continue a relationship with this stupidity any longer. Bye California, you no longer exist to me. Set your normal people free.
