The GOP and the Tea Party have been called anarchists, arsonists and hostage takers so much this week we’d almost stopped noticing. The New York Times’ Thomas Friedman managed to make a few ears perk up on NPR today, though, when he compared the GOP to terrorist group Hezbollah.

  • ObamaFail

So to liberals and Scumocrats, the Republicans are terrorists and like Hezbollah, but the real Hezbollah are friends to the Dems, along with Al-Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood, and Iran. Shorter Dems: Anyone who is Pro-America is a terrorist, and everyone who wants America destroyed is a tolerant, loving person.

    • Texan357

Holy Rod Serling’s Signpost, Batman! Seriously, if I couldn’t laugh at this crap (thank you, Dave Powers!) I might be putting my head / fists / feet through drywall.

  • Jill

Not a good comparison. The Obama administration has defended, funded, and sided with Hezbollah. The GOP? Not so much.

    • QWYS (Hydralisk of the Swarm)

I had this same thought — Apparently people that get a modern public education and/or are card carrying members of “Sons of Alinsky” fraternity don’t understand that such obvious irony really destroys the bombastic shock value of the unhinged use of hyperbole.

      • crq

        Love that one… 😉

  • grais

Anyone else get the impression they’re just trying to outdo each other to get some attention?
How long before one of ’em likens Cruz to Pol Pot?

    • Texan357

How long before one of ’em likens Cruz to Pol Pot?

      What’s the over/under, and what odds? :)

      • IceColdTroll

Nah, he was a true-to-the-bone Red. They’d consider that a compliment.

        • rennyangel2

We should start calling them the reds. The left is red. How they got “blue” is from the Vichy press that was afraid the red would be too tainted for the left.

    • michael s

Pol Pot the one that iron lady Maggie supported. So it would be appropriate.

      • grais

You have severe difficulties w/ comprehension, poor thing.
Come back when you understand the language.

  • therantinggeek

This is why I stopped listening to NPR a long time ago…and for the record, Leftists, I usually don’t listen to talk radio, either. So there. 😛

    • crq

Amen to both those altitudes (pun intended!)

  • Richard J Sunkle

I hope they keep it up. My 88 year old grandmother has never been firmly in one camp or the other but says she’s sick of these democrats calling her grandson a terrorist.

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

Odd how I’ve yet to see Friedman accuse Democrats of holding the nation hostage with Obamacare. But I guess forcing people to buy a product and exempting yourself from said rule is perfectly acceptable to a nutcase like Friedman.

    • Texan357

Democrats of holding the nation hostage with Obamacare.

That is an excellent point, IMHO. It’s so much closer to the truth. “Buy this lemon or pay a fine” is certainly the stuff of hostage-takers. Pay one way or pay the other; you have no choice.

  • URGR82

This hate speech coming from the left is nothing more than them radicalizing their minions.

    • crq

Aw, but I like minions, they’re so cute…oh, someone just said you weren’t talking about Gru’s minions. Then…Down w/the radical minions!!! Always!!!!

      • GaryTheBrave

        They’re tasty too particularly deep-fried.

  • Texan357

New entry for our friends at Legal Insurrection.

It’s a good sign…? That they’re this unhinged now means they’ll be more unhinged later, and even the most fleeced LIV will take notice. Obamacare is an unmitigated failure – always has been, and always will be. I keep praying for a Senate upheaval – maybe “third time’s the charm.”

  • lesterwink23

When you pick and choose your allies and political stances as much as Obama does, his sheep in the media are bound to make these kinds of mistakes

  • no_more_deceit

You really have to love the lefties new “civility”, maybe not.

  • Jack Deth

I guess that “bomb vest” theme was getting old. And it needs a different spin.

In other words. Just another day that ends in “Y”.

  • Thomas, Snarkmaster General

That’s nothing, Tommy Boy. I compare you to a Leftist hack, but without the talent.

  • Jeremy

This happened on NPR so,this isn’t shocking just more lefty stupidity.I think it’s way past time that NPR stops getting federal funds when they are just another branch of the Democrat Party.

  • IceColdTroll

I thought the Left LIKED Hezbollah. Wait a minute now. Does that mean the Left are Zionists?

  • Sandor at the Zoo

So does that mean Friedman thinks the GOP is a bunch of freedom fighters? Or have I missed the doublethink switch to terrorists are bad?

  • TocksNedlog

False comparison. Obama is willing to negotiate with Hezbollah.

  • gracepmc

There must be some kind of secret leftist insiders name calling contest going on. Gotta’ wonder about the prize. Round trip tickets to the killing fields?

    • GaryTheBrave

Maybe become a Warden at a FEMA Camp.

  • objectivefactsmatter

I told you they don’t give a damn about law and due process. You upset their feelings and that makes you morally equivalent to unjust religious zealot murderers.

  • Bathing Suit Area

I like the way you guys have this article about how those horrible democrats with their nasty name calling are so hurtful and need to learn about civility… right next to your article cheering on Gutfeld for calling someone a “sniveling beta male”. Not even a pretense of consistency.

    • Tama

Awww i’m so sorry we hurt you feelings.. now run along back to huffpo..

    • Michael Rice

Yeah, calling someone sniveling (when they are) beta male, is the same as likening them to a group who blows up women and children.
By the way, the point was, libs always whine about hate and name calling, etc. then do it to others.
We are not complaining about the names, per say, but the hypocrisy it represents.

    • NRPax

So basically, your side is allowed to call us every single name in the book but the moment we fight back it’s “hypocrisy.” I seem to remember some Dems calling for a “new civil tone” for about five minutes before they got back to trashing us as well.

    • Shawn Smith

I just realized why leftists specialize in absurd, often offensive, moral equivalencies: Their own moral compasses are so completely broken. Killing and eating a cow: terrible. Tearing an unborn human infant limb from limb: A woman’s right. Blowing up hundreds of innocent civilians: Freedom fighters! Using constitutional processes to force negotiations over controversial legislation: Terrorism!

So yeah, in your world, calling someone a “sniveling beta male” is probably the same as calling someone a terrorist.

  • Tama

    Next will be to Hamas

  • Michael Rice

“Threatening the majority” ????? I guess he hasn’t heard that the majority of people want Obamacare to GO AWAY

  • rennyangel2

Another major reason to defund NPR and PBS.

    • Doc Farmer ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Wait, they’re still on the air? ‘Splain to me how those are “essential services”…

    • DebsFriends

Why are we funding NPR and PBS anyway? Can’t they sell advertising time or are they inept at that also? PBS is fine but NPR puts my eyes into a permanent rollback.

  • GrindingMills

He should have compared the GOP to sniveling beta males.

  • EgbertSouseJr

    Hey Friedman, 800-318-2596

  • Mecha75

Its so obvious that the Communist talking points are to label Tea Party conservatives as terrorists.

  • Arkuy The Great

I heard Tommy’s sanctimony yesterday. Between the Hizb’Alla reference and the lamenting about how the Republicans’ brinkmanship was somehow a threat to “democracy I was amazed that such outrage could be expressed by a man who routinely idolizes the decision-making efficiency of Red China. Threats to democracy are to be decried when convenient for Tommy Boy!

  • therantinggeek

Based on all of the hateful tweets I’ve seen lately coming from the Left – not to mention the vitriol they spew here on the boards – they’d be celebrating in the streets if they could should a conservative like you or me, or even someone who’s a bit more well-known wind up being shot and died as a result.

Prove me wrong, Leftists. I dare you. 😛

  • ceemack

Y’know, the colonists tried to work things out with King George III prior to Lexington & Concord. George wouldn’t budge, so they had to resort to stronger measures. George might have called the Minutemen terrorists, but no true American would.

Republicans have tried to work things out with Harry Reid and President Poopypants, but those two haven’t budged and the GOP has had to resort to stronger measures.

And this Tom Friedman person wants to call them “terrorists”. Enlightening, isn’t it?

  • alanaforsyth

Friedman is an enemy of constitutional processes. He doesn’t believe that the Constitution gives legislators tools with which to craft policies their constituents support. If Congress votes to do something, in his view, it’s in stone forever. What a stupid little man he is. Yes, “stupid.” How can anyone intelligent come out with the nonsense he does?
