As Twitchy reported, more than a few liberals confessed their newfound “crushes”  on Pope Francis this week after he suggested that the Catholic Church had an unhealthy obsession with the topics of abortion, birth control and gay marriage.

Make room for comedian Chris Rock, who suspects, presumably from that one article in an Italian Jesuit magazine, that Pope Francis might be the greatest man alive. That’s high praise indeed, considering that to Rock, President Obama is the “dad of the country” and “our boss,” so we need to do what he says. That would make the pope, like, the world’s grandfather or something.

Eventually people will realize that the pope didn’t actually come out in favor of abortion and gay marriage, but until then, Jane Fonda thinks it might be love.

It’s almost like these celebrities project all of their hopes and dreams on charismatic figures about whom they know very little.

  • Netmilsmom

If they love him, I’m not so sure about the man.

    • Liberty

      He’s wonderful.

    • Corey Dennison

No…they don’t love the man…they only love their mis-perceptions about him. When they realize that the Church is not going to change millienia-old doctrine to suit the current social fads of the left, they’ll go right back to hating him and all he stands for.

      • Netmilsmom

They are not going to let anyone know that. Pete in the Pew goes back to the Parish and hears these misconceptions repeated by the Liturgical Director and Head of the Music Ministry. They will take the MSM take on all of this, write the Prayers of the Faithful, backed up by the liberal Priest and we have a recipe for disaster. Like the USCCB has stopped anything before this?
If my parish goes with this, I’m going over to the local Chaldean Parish. The Eastern Rites don’t play with this garbage.

        • JoFro

Why don’t you just move to a more Traditionalist FSSP Parish church? Better than moving to a whole ‘nother rite, I say!

    • TocksNedlog

Be sure about him, and unsure about THEM.

    • Katielee4211

They completely misunderstand what he’s saying. They interpretting that he condones, when that’s not what he’s saying. He doesn’t condone, but he doesn’t condemn. He’s putting focus on the true nature of God, and the greatest commandment of all–to Love. He’s saying God loves all His children, and while these are issue’s, they should not be the primary focusof the Church. The primary focus is Gods Love.

  • Lloyd Snauwaert

Weird alright but celebrities never project their hopes and…oh…wait…

  • RevengeVoter

I call it Obama-displacement syndrome: it occurs when your cult leader’s approval ratings dip into the high 30s, none of your policies work, and your very values are shown to be the hack lies they are..

    • Katielee4211

They need a new hero–who better than the Pope, right? Even though in their usual shallow way of bounding olong the surface, they misunderstand his meaning.

    • Chrissy the Hyphenated

They don’t understand the Pope any more than they ever understood Obama.

  • Den-Cat

Just goes to show how reactionary the left is and how complete their inability to grasp deeper thought is as well

  • ja

They probably misunderstood what the Pope was saying. The Catholic Churches beliefs are intact and that has not changed.

  • waltermitty2012

Here’s the full quote that has the Left gushing over Pope Francis and it bears repeating.

“We cannot insist only on issues related to abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptive methods. This is not possible. I have not spoken much about these things, and I was reprimanded for that. But when we speak about these issues, we have to talk about them in a context. The teaching of the church, for that matter, is clear and I am a son of the church, but it is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time.”

Contrary to what many believe, the Catholic Church will not change her teachings on abortion, gay marriage, and contraceptives.

  • brando

Again, lefties mis-construe what he actually said, acting like he’s all of the sudden pro-gay marriage and pro-abortion. He’s just saying love your neighbor even if they’re atheist or gay, just like Jesus wanted. Doesn’t mean you have to agree with their choices

  • Steve_J

At the supermarket have you ever stood behind someone purchasing their “food” with food stamps?

    • TugboatPhil

Sadly, too many times to count.

    • Markward

Way back when I worked at a casino as a cage cashier a couple of poor folk tried to use their EBT cards to get cash advances off them.

    • wwbdinct

Yes I have. One particular memory I have is that the person used the card for Digiorno pizza and a box of Entenmann’s doughnuts. That was it.

  • Maxx

Warts and all, the greatest man alive to me is the man who married my mom but yeah. I sort of get the affection for the new Pope. He seems genuine and eager to build some bridges, unlike most liberals whose “our way or the highway” mentality destroys them. As for Jane, the greatest gift a poor person can receive isn’t government cheese, it’s a job. Besides, we all know the program is abused. I’ve lost count of the number of people I’ve seen walk out of grocery stores here in Florida having used food stamps, all to load them into a brand new $40K SUV.

    • cherykie

When I was on food stamps over 30 years ago, I couldn’t even OWN a car!

    • Chrissy the Hyphenated

I hope y’all won’t judge … dh and I both lost our jobs and our home Christmas week one year. We had just finally junked our horrible old car that had a hole the size of a basketball in the front passenger floor.

Because of the way financing worked, the best we could afford was a new subcompact. We’d have preferred a cheaper used, but the monthly payments were too high. I also had gotten a new coat and boots for Christmas.

I wanted to wear a sack on my head going in to buy groceries with food stamps, with our new car and my beautiful camel coat and suede boots. But the fact is … we had no cash for food, the car was worth less than we owed on it (that happens about 5 seconds after you drive it off the lot) and we needed the car and the clothes to find new jobs.

I was deeply grateful for the food stamps and the kitchen cupboard, plus the help our church gave us with other short-term needs. We’ve given back as much as possible wherever we could. But while I realize some do abuse the system, many are like we were. I.e. the very people for whom the food stamp program was intended. And you can’t tell from the quality of a person’s things what their current cash flow problems might be.

  • Don Laguilles

so the pope speaks and in the liberal mind, twists and bends to fit their agenda. Hey guys, acting on your Homosexuality is a sin, abortion is still murder and contraception is still abortive- The Pope says we should welcome these, and be supportive of them so they can change their ways (homosexuality), and repent on abortion and understand why contraception kills as well.

  • Jake Wilde

Why would I care that a racist comedian likes the Pope?

  • Right Wired

If democrats love paying taxes so much, why don’t they just offer to pick up my part of the tab?

  • NRPax

Hey Jane? The Catholic Church doesn’t advocate charity at gunpoint unlike the Communists you adore, you wretched has been skank.

  • TocksNedlog

Gotta love Jane Fonda. I wonder if she can tell us who the last Pope was that did NOT care about the poor. Perhaps she can locate that name in the same place where she learned that the current Pope “hates” dogma.

  • TocksNedlog

Chris Rock: “I might be crazy but I got this weird feeling that the new pope might be the greatest man alive.”
    — You ARE crazy, and the Pope certainly is greater than YOU.

  • Magnifico

    Does Rock know he’s white?

  • forgetyoutooo

This racist and his publicist care about one thing..making up to the white man without appearing to do so.

  • Tom James

Let’s see, Pope Francis is Pro-Life, he believes that marriage is between one man and one woman, and he’s bringing more people towards Christ. Chris Rock is right, the Pope is pretty great!

  • Chrissy the Hyphenated

The Pope “hates dogma”? Wow THAT’s a stretch. Talk about hearing only what you want to hear.

  • ceemack

“Gotta love new Pope. But he’s still not as cool as Ho Chi Minh.”

  • keyboard jockey

The Pope didn’t say he hated dogma.

Here’s a link to his interview: Big Heart Open To God.

I didn’t read once where he stated he hated church dogma.

  • jaun456

Jane and Chris GF Yourselves, I did not forget Jane about Hanoi Jane and Chris I sure as hell did not forget about you being a racist!! you both suck.

  • Baptismal Vows

Rock and Fonda – if you love the pope so much and appreciate his words for the poor – then give all your millions to the poor and shut up. Otherwise you come across as non credible.

  • Dennis Sinclair

If they “love” him they must not understand his and the Church’s message and doctrine very clearly. It seem they are operating on emotion not intellect as is usual for Libs.. Just liberal emotional delusion. Nothing else.

  • mapache

….at least his focus is off Obama.

  • Just Another Guy

    I know…”for a white guy” is missing….

  • Catholic4life

The more the Catholic Church is modernized the more the world will accept and love the Catholic Church, which is happening now with the current pope. The Great Archbishop Sheen on why be Catholic said “look for the church that is hated, and did not get along with the world.” If Christ was in any of the churches of the world today, He must still be hated as he was when he was on the earth in the flesh. Look for the church that is accused of being behind the times, if the world loves the Catholic Church it is no longer the true Catholic Church!!

    • sanfordandsons

It took you a while to get your point across but I agree. Moral correctness is never liked since it always goes against most peoples desires. The CC is and always will be the standard by which others are measured.

  • tops116

Well, it always is news when Rock can say something nice about a white man. He usually only does that when he’s leeching a career off one. Right, Mr. Sandler?

“Unlike US Congress. Cutting $40bil from food stamps!!”

Yeah, so much worse, Janey, than Obama cutting $700 billion from Medicare to pay for Obamacare.

  • sanfordandsons

There ain’t enough forgiveness for Chris Rock in this world to cover his sinful ass. It’s certainly above Francis’ pay grade too.

  • $18912735

Someone either hacked Chris Rock’s twitter account, or he doesn’t know that Pope Francis is not black.

  • disqus_FlD2VMR2RJ

Wait a minute — Chris Rock actually has something nice to day about a Caucasian?!

    • andycanuck

      No. He’s a white Hispanic.

      • disqus_FlD2VMR2RJ

        Thank you for the correction.

  • Renny

This is proof that he’s on the wrong track.

  • missyree68

Chris Rock’s opinion means nothing. It is usually racist and based on little or no real information at all.

  • praymorenow1

    1. Jane, you realize that $40 billion is over 10 years, and w/ our ‘raise the debt limit’ again & again budget……to quote Hillary, ‘what does it matter?’
    2. The Pope made their hearts leap when he commented on how the church should not fixate on gays so much……..he’s probably right. The Church, w/ all its faults & warts & ugliness, and no doubt he knows what is coming up in new ‘news’ about the church & pedophiles & wrongdoings………….has lost a lot in terms of preaching morality.
    3. The Pope did not say he is against the Church rules re: marriage & divorce, adultery, homosexuality, abortion, etc. What he did say is he the soul of a person is what the church should be after……if you can’t uphold the basic tenants of faith….of belief & faith & grace & morality…..the other things will go unheard.
    4. The Pope dug in about abortion again this past week. Will Jane and John love that too?
    5. Considering the last Pope wore fur & red designer shoes & enjoyed his high style travel, this Pope is a true change of pace.
    6. He is media smart too….and he knows how to get attention, how to get a conversation going.

  • DiabloDawg

Chris Rock? Never heard of her.

  • ThomasCollins1

…and Chris Rock a educated mf

  • Kathleen

The leftists totally miss the point of what Pope Francis actually said, and I’M stupid?

    Okay then.

  • Diane Stephan

Obam-me is going to be jealous Chris.

  • John J. Jakubczyk

if they truly think well of him, they would listen to him, change their ways and follow Christ. All else is vanity. The pope tells us all – follow Christ. He minces no words. One must seek the truth. If one is honest, then one seeks the truth, treats his/her neighbor with respect and does no harm. The pope is calling for conversion. He is proclaiming Christ. Choose life by choosing Christ.

  • Carl Brown

Hey, cut Chris and Jane some slack. They’re just sucking up because they know that after Obama ruins America and after the dust clears, the Church will write the history books. The Church has survived other dictators like Nero, Diocletian, Stalin, Mao.

  • somnipod

    Great post and so true.

  • Reverend Ken

He was put in position by the N.W.O., he is the reason I just quit the catholic church. The last pope wouldn’t bow to the N.W.O. so they replaced him with this unworthy P.O.S.

    • $2346491

ZOMG.. I know the nice pastor from Argentina is totally part of the Masonic conspiracy headed by the Rothschilds. BTW, how is the SSPX? Still trying to disprove the Shoah and obsessing over Fatima.

  • Idl

I knew immediately that the media was wrong about what the Pope had said, and I’m not Catholic. This bunch is pretty slow.
