In February, Floyd Lee Corkins, 29, pleaded guilty to shooting and wounding a security guard at the Family Research Center’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. Early reports that Corkins was carrying a bag full of Chick-fil-A sandwiches turned out to be true; he told an FBI agent that he wanted to “kill as many as possible” to “make a statement against the people who work in that building … and with their stance against gay rights and Chick-fil-A.” He’d do that by shooting them and then smearing the sandwiches on the faces of his victims.

Today, Corkins was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the shooting. He had pleaded guilty to charges of committing an act of terrorism while armed, assault with intent to kill while armed, and interstate transportation of a firearm and ammunition.

Corkins was found with a list of four conservative organizations taken directly from the Southern Poverty Law Center’s own “hate map.” WUSA9 reports that Corkin was also found with two fully loaded “magazine clips” and a box of 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Editor’s note:  The “magazine clips” language comes directly from WUSA9, terminology Twitchy has mocked before in the ongoing debate over gun control.

“WUSA9 reports that Corkin was also found with two fully loaded *magazine clips*”

  • ceemack

I know what a magazine is, and I know what a clip is. WTF is a “magazine clip”?

    • J. Cox

It keeps the magazines in the doctors office organized for your enjoyment as you wait countless hours trying to get in to see the doctor.

      Other than that…I dunno.

      • Jack Deth

More commonly referred to as a “Spoon”.

Though I know of none made for pistol magazines.

        • 0bamasnought

I still have my trusty P-38.
It’ll still cut through a can.

          • Jack Deth

I keep my steel, Korean War era P-38 on my key ring. Opened many a can of C-Rats and heated them on the exhaust pipe of MD-3s during cold winter nights of the 1970s and 80s.

Never could get the hang of or liked later MREs.

          • Charles Hammond Jr

I thought you two were talking about a German Pistol not a can opener.

          • 0bamasnought

Oh you kids, and your newfangled thingamajigs.

I’ll sit down and tell you a story, right after I untie the onions from my belt.

          • Charles Hammond Jr

I might be young but I’m not that un-cultured.

          • Jack Deth

            Hi. Charles:

I have a Walther P-38 as well. WWII vintage. Nicely balanced, very sturdily built 9mm. Ejects brass vertically. Nice counter balance to my .45ACPs.

          • Charles Hammond Jr

There’s some charm to those old guns! I like a lot of them better than the new ones.

          • 0bamasnought

            I got first generation MREs.
Wow, if I remember right, we did field trials in late ’82.
The chocolate covered brownies were full of baked grubs. We complained, they pulled them, and a few weeks later we received a pallet, 600lbs of the brownies.
They all had grubs in them.
            Lowest bid, go figure.

          • Deborah Hallsted

            Uh,…that is disgusting…!

          • Infinite_Indeterminism

            No, protein…

Sure, they should have had quality control – but do remember: SNAFU!

          • Deborah Hallsted

            So, -fubard-got it.

          • 0bamasnought

            That’s what she said.
Well, that’s what the companies rep said, after finding out that we just broke them apart, and ate around the grubs.
            The brownies were really good.

          • Jack Deth

Well, that tops my having a can of “Spaghetti and Meat” from a box of C-Rations heated on an exhaust manifold.

Finished the can. Wasn’t bad. Then I and looked at the bottom lid, which read:

“Made by the Cadillac Dog Food Co.”.

Though MREs do have excellent and sturdy plastic spoons.

          • 0bamasnought

Used to call the Beef in meat sauce, Beef Macaroni, because of the huge chunks of artery.
            The fruit was always good.

    • Markward

Something you load into an AR-15 shotgun?

  • CatHerder

    Let him die in obscurity.

    • Michael Hampton

He didn’t get the death penalty. He got 25 years. And he didn’t kill anyone.

      • CatHerder

Nevertheless, he will eventually die. Everyone does. Hopefully without ever coming to public attention again.

      • TexSizzle

Only because there was someone who had a weapon and was able to shoot back.

  • therealguyfaux

“These mass shooter types are all angry young white men imbued with Tea Party Christian-conservative racist homophobic misogynistic hate…”

What about Colin Ferguson, Aaron Alexis, James Lee, Floyd Corkins, none of whom are any of those things, all of whom attempted and/or carried out a mass shooting incident?

    “Ooh— a squirrel!”

    • ObamaFail

How about James Holmes who was an Occupy Wall Street participant and an Obama supporter? Do libs think he was part of the Tea Party? Adam Lanza was a Democrat as well.

    • AZGunslinger

What about the blacks in Chicago, Detroit, and New Orleans? They partake in shootings on a daily basis.

    • Michael Hampton

Um…Corkins didn’t carry out a mass shooting. He shot one security guard.

      • NRPax

The only reason he didn’t carry out a mass shooting was because of that security guard.

      • TexSizzle

He tried, but was prevented because one of his intended victims shot back.

  • AZGunslinger

This shooting was courtesy of the Southern Poverty Law Center.

    • Jeremy

      They are vile scum indeed.

      • AZGunslinger

Being scum is their good part…. they are the new breed of fascists. They are to the Democrats what Joseph Goebbels was to the Nazi Party.

    • Michael Hampton

Actually, the FRC is the one responsible for the shooting. If they didn’t spend millions of dollars in order to spread lies about gay people, then this man wouldn’t have done this.

      • NRPax

So even though the shooter admitted that he used the SPLC website to pick a target, you blame the FNC. I see that you got a good deal on a mil-spec reality filter.

        • Michael Hampton

The reason for why the FRC is on the SPLC hate list is valid. His reasons for violence are not.

          • NRPax

Snake crap. SPLC makes up things about every organization they target. You can’t post one quote anywhere from the FNC calling for violence against gay people and you are well aware of that fact.

          • Michael Hampton

First. FNC is the Fox News Channel. What you are talking about is the Family Research Council or the FRC. Second, what do you think “…they should be put to death” means? Because quoting that bible passage directly calls for death. That is a threat of violence. And lastly, why do you think that the FRC equates our relationships to raping children? Because they want us to be happy and live forever? No. It is because they want society to hate gay people and there is no more hated person in this world than someone who rapes a child. So keep on telling me how they haven’t done anything wrong if that helps you sleep at night. While I am not defending his actions, the FRC is not innocent.

          • NRPax

You are defending his actions by claiming the FRC drove him to do it. Sorry, but I’m a bit more civilized and I blame the actions of the shooter on the shooter himself.

(However, my mistake on mistyping FNC instead. I’ll own up to that).

      • AZGunslinger

Nice try you fascist commie LGBT whackjob. It’s the LBGT crowd that spreads the lies and the hate.

  • Clete Torres

Solitary confinement and nothing to eat but CFA sammiches for the length of his sentence.

And make him eat it, and serve it, all.

  • WingedBishop

    Only 25 years? Appalling.
