You might remember that President Obama used Saturday’s weekly address to reiterate the commitment he made earlier in the week in his speech at Knox College: “to spend every minute of every day doing everything in my power to make this economy work for working Americans again.” And he’ll get right on that, maybe starting tomorrow. Today was devoted to a long lunch date with Hillary Clinton and a meeting with Al Sharpton, Attorney General Eric Holder and dozens of others to discuss the Voting Rights Act.

Sharpton found time to write a blog post about the meeting for the Huffington Post, and if his piece is an accurate representation, he and the president spent a lot of time talking about Fox News host Bill O’Reilly — the guy “turncoat mofo” Don Lemon dared to suggest had a point about black culture. O’Reilly’s criticisms are just a distraction, see.

The issues of gangster glorification, out-of-wedlock births, the Black family crisis and others are ones that I absolutely agree we must deal with, and I have unequivocally preached about them and others for years. But when they are being used as a distraction from dealing with the very real dilemmas of ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws, voting rights and an unbalanced criminal justice system, then I must call foul. Right-wingers and gullible co-conspirators who don’t want to see this country confront voter equality, and a just criminal court system will stop at nothing it seems to divert people’s attention from the challenges we face as a nation. Even as I write this, states are currently engaged in voter suppression tactics yet again by implementing draconian new voter ID laws, eliminating/reducing early voting days and much more.

Texas, Holder’s prime target for new legislation, was among the first to pass one of those “draconian” voter ID laws once the Supreme Court struck down Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. In short, the state is giving out voter IDs for free at every driver’s license office in the state, and they’re good for six years. However, applicants must have documentation to verify their U.S. citizenship and identity — that must be the draconian part.

Brit Hume: Al Sharpton’s continued prominence ‘simply amazing’

Boom-tastic! Larry Elder, Brit Hume tweet epic Al Sharpton slam

  • Clayton B

    “voting rights” . . . now that is a ‘phony’ scandal . . .

    • stellatruman

      Hell yeah it is !

    • Elaine

By ‘voting rights’ they mean voter fraud. Who the heck is against an ID to vote? Even BO’s own UN appointed UN poll watchers were shocked by that! Come on. We all know what this is about. CHEATING by Democrats.

      • The Penguin

      • objectivefactsmatter

“By ‘voting rights’ they mean voter fraud.”

They mean “social justice” in voting. Which means fraud that attacks capitalism.

        “CHEATING by Democrats.”

        Exactly. Social justice.

  • Maxx

“Hey Reverend Al, did you ever apologize to those Duke Lacrosse boys?”

File under “spoken words you’ll never hear at the White House.”

    • stellatruman

Do you think he ever apologized to the 6 men who were accused of raping Tawanna Brawley either ? Guessing not

      • autdrew4real

Or the 9 (I’m pretty sure) people killed in separate incitement events in NYC

        • objectivefactsmatter

          No, no and no.

  • Magnifico

If you’re too stupid and lazy to obtain identification, you obviously contribute nothing in taxes and are nothing more than a parasite. You should be stripped of your “voting rights”.

    • Elaine

They offered the ID’s free and still a no go. It’s all about cheating! Trying to make it about racism is a real stretch!

      • Magnifico

Think of how shameful it would be to drive around in a bus, picking up piss-soaked bums, and registering them to vote. That’s an anything-to-win, including voter fraud, attitude.

        • IceColdTroll

Oh but that’s NEVER happened, has it? Not even DEMOCRATS *ptui* would stoop THAT low?

          ….woul they?

    • objectivefactsmatter

      That’s my feeling as well.

There was a time when someone could argue that recently emancipated people need time to build assets. But come on, in 2013…

And many of these states are proposing free IDs for the purpose of voting.

I actually think that people on public assistance should lose their voting rights at some point. Anyone that clearly would have ulterior motives in conflict with the health of the nation should not be allowed to vote. Criminals, leaches, etc.

Maybe after X months of a certain amount of assistance, they lose their right to vote for POTUS and senator. That’s a reasonable compromise. And they can’t vote on any initiatives that deal with funding welfare programs.

But that’s just too rational and defies the collectivist thinking that has gone viral in this nation and around the world.

      • Magnifico

I know a few illegal aliens. I asked them if it would be okay to give them full amnesty, minus the right to vote. Guess what? I was being racist and didn’t know it. Granted, if I were an unskilled peasant who illegally emigrated to Mexico, I’d take that offer from the Mexican government in a second, but that’s just me.

        • objectivefactsmatter

Voting is not a right for immigrants. If we grant them some legal status just because we’re being kind, who says we have to give them all the rights of citizenship?

This modern notion of voting rights just because you breathe just makes me sick. It’s part of this whole problem we have with people and their sense of entitlement.

          Racism? No.
          Nationalism? Yes.
          Law and order? Yes please.

  • Clete Torres

Three race-baiters meeting on ‘voting rights,’ two are in seats of power in the government.

    What could go wrong?

  • OLLPOH ~ America

Really, When Is Obama Going To Have The Conversation With All About Voting rights for American Citizens…hmmm? Citizens. Proof of Identity? Proof of Citizenship?
    BioMetrics here They Come.

    • objectivefactsmatter

      “BioMetrics here They Come.”

I thought of that too. At some point once they’re convinced they’ve bought enough votes, they won’t need the fraud and will opt for growing the fed that way as well. But for now, I think we’re safe to assume they need the fraud.

  • brwaldbaum

“Voting rights” is Benghazi for “electoral fraud.”

Sharpton is nothing more than a RACIST FLEEBAGGER & no one trust him or listens to him anyway !!!! What kiIIs me is you need Photo ID to cash a welfare check or any check for that matter, to rent a car, to bring something back to the store, to buy beer, & the MOST IRONIC of all to get in to any government building !!!!!! If you don’t have Photo ID then you are either trying to stay under the radar, or you are a criminal who is avoiding capture, either way you should NOT be voting anyway !!!!

Photo ID is not liked at all by FLEEBAGGERS because it means the FLEEBAGGERS can’t cheat if we enforce the Photo ID laws !!! Look at the last election, if we were to redo the 2012 election but this time in front of voting officials & with Photo ID I bet we would be saying President Romney right now !!! Remember that the ballots we fill out are not traceable or trackable, this means that if you were to go back to the voting precinct an hour later you would not be able to find the ballot you filled out they all look the same, that is prime breeding ground for VOTER FRAUD & how BOBO won the 2008 & 2012 elections !!!!!

I say in the 2014 midterms we all get a receipt with our vote & this will serve 2 purposes, one we will have a record of our vote & we can make sure the voting machine casted the right vote at the sametime !!!! Then there is the really important reason #2 & that is if the government numbers don’t seem right they can be check against the actual receipt numbers & see if they jive, I bet if we had this system in place before the 2012 election we would be saying President Romney today !!!!!

What the FLEEBAGGERS are doing here is to make sure the VOTING FRAUD stays in place for 2014 so they can take over the House & push thru all of BOBO’s RACIST FAILURES & DEBACLES of POLICIES to drive this country even further into the ground then BOBO & his RACIST FLEEBAGGING COHORTS have already !!!!! It won’t work though because the American people are seeing what this CORRUPT ADMINISTRATION have been up to the last 5 years & they will reject Holder & BOBO on whatever they say, especially Texas, DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS !!!!!!

  • TroyGates

Why does Sharpton only talk about blacks and whites? I see many more colors of people everyday than just black and white.

    • Frank Drebin

Why did ‘Slick’ Willie Sutton rob banks?

      Same answer.

  • Dane Gunderson

VRA was passed to protect voting rights AGAINST Democrats, now used by Democrats for partisan gerrymandering… Democrats hate democracy

  • Dane Gunderson

Black Panther club waving poll monitors included in your plans?

  • Dane Gunderson

Hey… how many of you people are blocked by Al Sharpton(D) huh?

  • Adela Wagner

hey Al…You sure can drive those buses around for Union crowd padding, and million(?) man marches…how about going around and loading them up with the(must be) MILLIONS of people who just do not have an ID (how the hell are they gettin’ food stamps Al?) and haul their butts down to the DMV for a free one in plenty of time to vote? Oh, that’s right….too busy crying about race and disenfranchisement, and doing the ID bus run might take some hot bloviated wind out of your white sheet sails.

Besides how else could this Cincinnati poll worker and Obama lemming, be able to get away with voting 6 times?

If I had my way, Al Tawana Sharpton would have “Keep Racism Alive” tatted across his forehead

    • ObamaFail

People like Al Sharpton make their money off of keeping racism alive. Without beating the race drum over a little bit of nothing, Sharpton would lose his fame and possibly his fortune. who profits the most from dead black people? This picture might answer it.

  • I M Free

    Name: Al Sharpton = True
    Title: Reverend = Phony

  • tjack

Presenting your id in order to vote is draconian? I hope 500 Al Sharptons vote republican in the next election it may be the only way he’ll learn.

  • HerodiousPeaskinner

“unequal access to…..higher rates of incarceration..” ! Is that like “prison we much”? The man is a moron.

  • Jack Deth

Did they take long, meaningful showers and swap spit afterwards?

It’s the only time Obama is allowed to lead.

  • URGR82

Why do so many people say of Al Sharpton that “nobody listens” to him.? He meets with presidents and promotes and orchestrates race riots. The guy is a deseased bloodsucking tick on the a$$ of society.

  • Spasmolytic

Has our government reached such a point of absurdity and desperation that Al Sharpton is actually advising the administration on policy? Maybe Sharpton will be able to get Tawana Brawley a position on Obama’s cabinet.

  • Sunshineandsurf

Hey Al, I religiously watched your beloved MSNBC show along with Chrissy, Rachel MadCow,and angry Larry O’Donnell every night for a year ( I know I am a certifiable nut-case, but belive in knowing what the enemy is up to), and not once did any of you mention Black family issues, inappropriate Rap Music culture, or anything at all that would cast a bad light on the Black Community.
Now O’reilly called you out on it and you three race baiters are running scared. You’ve got to change the conversation and get your mojo back.

  • Guest

How about this headline instead —

“MSNBC has ‘long, significant’ meeting with Obama, Holder on voting rights”

  • ObamaFail

The Democrats are terrified that voter i.d. laws will make voter fraud a thing of the past. And they can’t have that.

  • The Penguin

    It’s a joke…right?

  • bill_a_bob

“…. and we will make all puppies 10% cuter!”

  • Spasmolytic

This might be a more accurate headline —

“MSNBC has ‘long, significant’ meeting with Obama, Holder on voting rights”

  • bill_a_bob

they’re trying to figure out how to get more of the dead registered for the 2014 midterms

    • ObamaFail

To Democrats, life doesn’t begin until after your mother gives birth to you. But they also think a person isn’t officially dead until at least 10 voting cycles after they have died.

  • Damien Johnson

“It’s simply amazing how many on the right who never cared about ‘Black issues,’ or the fact that our youth are facing unequal access to education, jobs, housing and higher rates of incarceration, now…”

when I saw the second half after “the fact” (snicker, see what I did there?) my first question was “Who’s fault is that?!” Then I saw that it does assign fault; to the right. Well, I’m pretty sure that it’s not the right who put policies in place that caused all of that amongst black people.

  • cristo52

Are there no schools in Chicago? Baltimore? Atlanta? Whose fault is it if these young men drop out of school to become rap singers or basketball players or radical preachers? They have no hope because there is no leadership in their community and their culture doesn’t respect those who stay in school. The schools are there – the access to an education is there. And why is it we always hear about how desperate it is for the ones who drop out but we never hear about the ones who stay in, the ones who graduate. Let’s hold them up as examples to their own.

  • skhpcola

Grifter Al has never been part of anything “significant” in a positive sense. He’s a race-baiting thief that makes money by being a racist piece of trash. Denigrate, we much!

  • gracepmc

The entire African American talent pool at his disposal and Obama allows Sharpton as his public face. Speaks volumes to America.

  • Marjorie

I’m sure this trio rivaled the Yalta Conference…such significance and combined brain power. Do I need a /sarc here?

    • IceColdTroll

Sorry, did you mean Yalta? Akshully, considering the presence of FDR and Stalin, this trio probably did rival them in enthusiasm for all things left-wing and “progressive.”

      • Marjorie

yes I did…was just incensed about the entire charade…will edit…Fixed it!.

        • IceColdTroll

Quite all right, we all commit the occasional typo in the heat of the moment :- )

  • ObamaFail

Al Sharpton is the face of modern racism. He stirs up more hatred and more violence in his country than any of his moronic followers would ever admit. He stokes the fires every chance he gets and why? Because he feels white people are somehow to blame for the problems in the black community?

Oops, posted one of the pics twice.

  • Marty Luther

Sharpton meeting with Obama, Holder on voting rights>

Two if them are glory-seeking race-hustlers and the third is Al Sharpton

  • Jeremy
  • el_polacko

that this president can have a serious meeting with this huckster should be cause for immediate impeachement.

    • Jeremy

Obama and Sharpton are both race baiters so,it’s not surprising.I would love to see Obama and his loser wife get the boot out of the WH.

  • Jeremy

Al Sharpton should be in prison for all that he has done and he should be shunned by society.

  • objectivefactsmatter

“Even as I write this, states are currently engaged in voter suppression tactics yet again by implementing draconian new voter ID laws, eliminating/reducing early voting days and much more.”

    That’s what “draconian” means, eh?

  • Victoria Richardson

I would love to be a fly on the wall at that meeting. That would be like watching a horror movie.

  • Sharkteeth

    The poverty pimp and OBLAMER

  • Peyton

What was this, the racist trinity?

  • Rulz

Funny, I thought the democrats now have a permanent majority and Hillary’s a shoe-in for 2016.

What could they be worried about?

  • syvyn11

I was hoping Big Fat Al was going to back voter ID. I was also hoping that Nina Dobrev would show up in my apartment. 0 for 2.

Blacks march for every damn cause, tell them to march their asses down to the DMV

  • chetnapier

how about a bucket of purple paint at every polling station

  • Karl Winrich

It’s a power grab. Many on the left have said that the GOP only wants voter ID laws so they will never lose an election again, and those on the right say it’s so the DNC can no longer cheat and steal elections.

So on one hand it’s about the Dems never losing again, and on the other side it’s about the Dems never winning again, unless it’s done fairly.

Hmmm….actually that doesn’t really sound like a bad idea, especially about the fair part. (BTW I’ve always been FOR voter ID laws, and when they’re free it dispels the their hard to get argument)

  • notenoughtime

Cannot imagine how a long meeting was required when the strategy is to vote early and vote often.

  • Blake Waymire

I think I know the gist of what Sharpton and Obama talked about…

No ID required ever for blacks
    ID *always* required for whites
ID required for Hispanics and Asians only when there is evidence they might vote for the wrong person

  • ogama843

I cannot believe the president would seek conversation with the likes of Al Sharpton. A man who lost ALL credibility when he believed Tawana Brawley’s tale and ruined the lives of innocent men. It baffles me.

  • William Carter, I

For the past four years I have worked as an election/chief election judge. The only ones who were “denied” votes are those that were not in the system and those that chose were allowed to vote provisionally. Perhaps Mr. Sharpton should work to enforce laws that are being broken like immigration laws.
