Apparently we’ve all been letting the Westboro Baptist Church get away with too much for too long. Picketing the funerals of fallen soliders and victims of natural disasters is one thing, but tonight the WBC chose to cross the line and picket a One Direction concert in Kansas City, Mo.

Has Westboro Baptist Church finally met its match?

    • ObamaFail

If only they’d rally around important issues, not just a boy band being publicly criticized.

      • https://twitter.com/Captain_Cy_kun Cy

Don’t worry, when they turn 18 they’ll attach themselves to a leftist powder pull social cause of the week and vote democrat until they have to try and survive in the real world. Them most of them will keep voting democrat because it’s the cool thing to do.

      • ❀ turdy seven ❀

Directioners may not be the most mature group of people but we stood up for what we believed in. This is an important issue. This is not simply ‘just a boy band being publicly criticized’. WBC has had a history of picketing the funerals of fallen soliders and victims of natural disasters. Hate crimes are not something anyone should be able to get away with and WBC really did cross the line… way back in 1991 when this all started. We got global attention for this and yes, we may not have handled it in the best way but it’s better than just letting it go on unnoticed.
Also, one of the band members tweeted “Despite the company outside, I believe in equal rights for everyone. I think God loves all. Thanks for coming to the show though.” after hearing about the group outside. THIS is why so many people consider them their idols. They stand up for what they believe in and so do we. And nothing anyone says will ever change that. As a group, we do still have a lot of learning growing up to do before we can fully understand social issues such as this but we have been influenced to be accepting and non-judgemental which is one of the best lessons you can be taught.

And for you sir, I hope you will soon learn those things too before you go bashing teens via the internet again. Have a nice day.

        • Jeff Coil

“Global attention” is exactly what WBC wanted. And as long as you pay attention to them, they will continue.

          • ❀ turdy seven ❀

True, which is why I said Directioners may not have handled it in the best way. The WBC gets funded for every visit to their website, so of course they want more attention. But hopefully this has opened more eyes to these horrible acts they have been carrying out for the past years and give people the push to want to stop them.

  • Roberto Guerrero

Where was the outrages from these freaks when they where picketing the Military funerals? #TeamDoubleStandard

  • SansMercy

They’re a national embarrassment. Especially for those who love Christ.

    • ObamaFail

WBC, One Direction, or One Direction fans?
I know, you mean WBC. I’m just kidding around.

    • trixiewoobeans

They’re definitely not up for wearing WWJD bracelets.

    • http://musterion.typepad.com/blog/ Joe Dokes

Agreed 100% but what’s this One Direction thing? First I read of it.

    • Finrod Felagund

Indeed. I refuse to call them a church, I just call them Phelpsians.

  • ObamaFail

That little Maddy idiot needs a reality check. “Gay people are better than straight people.” Yeah, like no gay person breaks the law, or is cruel to another person. Give me a break. The only gay person I’ve ever met was such a douche. And a liberal. And guess what, he’s also a racist (which caused his white guilt to make him vote for Obama twice). I feel kind of bad bashing a kid, but she’s obviously on the fast track to one day throwing feces and used tampons at law makers for not allowing unrestricted abortions.

    • Emily B

And she has a potty mouth too. Such a delicate flower.

    • ERMERGERD

And then she goes on to defend One Direction by saying they aren’t gay. Democrat in the making.

    • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

I knew one “cool” gay dude back in the eighties. He worked for my Step-Father driving Taxicabs. Despite his “Sexual Orientation,” he was a cool, Conservative-type. Most of the other Gay people I met would probably want to molest me against my will… Jawamax 8<{D} #TrueStory.

    • Marauder

The only gay person you’ve ever met? Maybe he was the only openly gay person you ever met, but trust me, you’ve met more than one gay person in your life.

    • Herman LaClair

you seriously think you’ve only met ONE gay person in your life?? how do you know this?

      • TexSizzle

Maybe only one person *told* him he/she was “gay”. From my experience, many of them seem to be inordinately proud of their perversion and want everyone around them to know about it.

    • Luz P Becerra

Hey, “Gay” people are actually better, in a sense. “Gay” people have more uniqueness than people who are not “Gay”.

  • JeffWRidge

I had to look up who One Direction is. I can’t possibly be as old as I feel.

    • Roto

Me too. Wiki says they’re part of a “new” British Invasion. I remember the first one. Back then you had to actually go to a store (only Sears and Roebuck, and Montgomery Ward sold them in my town) and buy a 12-inch record to get their music. All my Dad said was, “They need a haircut.”

      • waltzingmtilda

        LOL. You old.
        😉

      • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

        Get dad a “Beatles’ Haircut” for his Birthday….J/K XD LOL #MusicTriviaTime Jawamax 8<{D}

      • bluewaternavy

My Dad said the same thing. We’re getting up there, aren’t we? My granddaughter asked when Paul McCartney “got into singing” *sigh*

        • TexSizzle

One of my nieces asked if I knew Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings.

      • AaronHarrisinAlaska

The key word you used there was “music.” The last British Invasion actually contained something composed of music and talent

    • Dragomance

Only reason I know of them is because my little sister likes them.Luckily she’s not as obsessed as the tweets above, but you don’t have to be old to not know about some new boy band.

    • mickeyco

You’re old when the only reason you’ve heard of them is because your granddaughters like them.

      • SWohio

Isn’t that the truth! My granddaughter tries to keep me updated (she put a Pandora app on my cellphone, which I have never used) but I think she is failing miserably.

        • mickeyco

          I know. Sad, isn’t it?

  • Maxx

Not entirely up to speed on the band but I do know WBC will ultimately be headed in one direction and it won’t be north.

    • WilliamAmos

      Or up.

As repugnant as WBC members are, they’ve never blown up anybody, burned any buildings, vandalized homes or urinated in public… But the Left will ignore the actions of their own and continue to insist that the much maligned and ostracized WBC represents all of Christianity.

    • trixiewoobeans

They represent none of Christianity…they’re not even in the ballpark…but VERY useful for the Left.

      • http://www.amazon.com/Devon-Dibley-His-Golden-Key/dp/1484181557/ M F Scotto

Yup. Every time I get into a discussion with a fellow believer who insists we have cave on every front to somehow prove we love people (believing they’ll believe as a consequence), I remind them that no matter what we do, WBC will always be their excuse. At the end of the day, love matters, but it is useless without truth.

      • V the K

AFAIK, they aren’t even an actual church. They’re just a little cult of lawyers and attention-whores.

    • ERMERGERD

      The WBC are democrats anyway.

    • ERMERGERD

      The WBC are democrats anyway.

    • AaronHarrisinAlaska

As repugnant as they are, not once have the broken any laws. It’s as you say, they may be god awful people but at least they can say they aren’t criminals.

      • TexSizzle

How about laws against harassment, and maybe some noise ordinances?

  • waltzingmtilda

This is hysterical…hey, if it gets more people aware of what scum WBC is, I’m all for it.

  • Kathy Fugitt Price Skaggs

Who is One Direction? I doubt anyone cares if WBC pickets a concert. They just need to ignore them they are after the attention and they are not a real church they are a cult.

  • Oilfart1

I love this. All the little girls and gay boys are going to “hunt you down”. That is some threatening talk. Sad that this demographic is so removed from reality that WBC is a new concept to them.

    • el_polacko

they’re kids…can’t expect them to know every bit of news from before they were even born.
but what’s the excuse for the adults who weren’t aware of this nasty clan until they picketed soldier’s funerals ? these evil folks had been causing great pain for the families of gay men for decades before they started in on the soldiers but nobody much cared back then…and some even thought that they were doing ‘god’s work’ at the time.

      • mickeyco

That is an overstatement. Most weren’t aware of them before the very publicized picketing of soldiers’ funerals. Most of us Christians who were aware- at least those I know- were thoroughly disgusted at the anti-gay demonstrations. I hope you don’t buy into these cultists being Christian. They are not in any way, shape or form.

  • Maricela Vaca

Westboro’s been a pain in the ass for a lot of people considering that this year they picket the funerals of all those lovely children that were killed on the Sandy Hook shoot-out earlier this year and like they said ^ they’ve picketed outside of funerals and that is never ok.

  • Republicanvet

Oh to be 14 and so shockingly ignorant.

  • Republicanvet

One can only hope that this extreme offense leads to a few of these nitwits to learn details of WBC, what they do, and whether that may change their thinking in some way.

  • Jeremy

WBC are vile scum and it’s a sickening shame that the younger kids of the Phelps clan will be brainwashed to believe the group’s B.S.

WBC is really desperate for attention these days. Just last weekend I saw them picketing a local church in Orlando. Out in the boonies. Really not a clue why.

    • V the K

That was my first thought when I read this; they must be really desperate for attention. Also, it’s unlikely the Freedom Riders will show up at a 1D concert.

  • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

    Even though I’m not really a fan of One Direction, I’d rather listen to their music than the rantings of WBC! Who will they Protest next..NASCAR? Let’s hope they shut their yaps and keep them shut! Jawamax 8<{D}

  • ForTheRepublic

I resent that “internet’s most powerful fandom” remark!…

I like to think us Bronies have that one cinched. 😀

    • MisterIncredible

don’t mention bronies here, it’s a bad mistake

      • ForTheRepublic

Nah, I don’t mind. People can think what they want about me, it really doesn’t bug me too much. I just ask that they remember that I’m on their side.

  • An American Veteran

Hmmm, I see promise in this, First WBC gets a beatdown from one direction fans then WBC sues One Direction and fans, why this could mean we get rid of both!!

  • Tom Chipp

WBC got what they wanted. Now they can demand every threat be investigated so they can sue the whole bunch. The sad part is they do have freedom of speech, just like me, just like you. Stop giving them press and they will cease to exist. But every cub journalist has to do the shocked and appalled story so they will always have a willing fool ready to print every idiocy they want.

  • gregl311

Give these kids a break. They are mostly 12, 13, 14 year old girls. Calling them ignorant is, well, ignorant. So they don’t know who WBC is. Really doesn’t matter.

    • James Perley

Many of those girl fans are from foreign countries. Google One Direction videos on YouTube. Some of the fans speak four or more languages. Moreover, Ukrainians or Dutch fans know more about our country then we do of theirs.

  • Medicinewoman2

Oh, so NOW the actions of WBC matter, because your snowflakes get slammed with reality, Probably shouldn’t have waited to care.

  • http://youhavetobethistalltogoonthisride.blogspot.com/ keyboard jockey

It’s refreshing that there are people who don’t know about WBC. That’s the whole purpose of WBC’s existence, they are attention ho’ers

  • The Penguin

One of these posters called THIS a new low… right, because demonstrating at fallen soldier’s funerals is no where near as appalling as this.

  • A N

Yes, it’s sad that many of One Direction fans do know who the WBC are. But you have to realise that most of those fans are young and sometimes not American. It’s a pity they aren’t as aware as they should be but we shouldn’t be pointing and laughing.

As for the WBC protest – they want publicity so going against the biggest boyband right now is the best marketing plan for them. It all about the money. And their awful intolerance and bigotry.

Maybe you should have included the tweet from one of the One Direction boys – he certainly disagrees with WBC and took this situation as an opportunity to show his support of equality to his twitter followers. Who knows, maybe some “tweeners” will take his words to their hearts.

  • John Smith

Idiotic tweet of the week listed above:
“gay people are better than straight people tbh”

I guess we have a gay supremacists now. Welcome to Obama’s America.

  • http://musterion.typepad.com/blog/ Joe Dokes

“Gay people are better than straight people.”

    At sodomy.

  • Smokey Behr

I didn’t know the Twitter TOS let tweens use the service. “Maddy” looks to be about 9 or 10.

  • JonInVa

WBC and all the faux outrage post-verdict, anti-Zimmerman black race baiting protestors now have something in common – lack of decency, absence of a shame, and an agenda that has zero merit.

  • IBXNJ

The Westboro dirt bags would exploit ANYTHING for 30 silver pieces!!

  • Kathy Fugitt Price Skaggs

What is a One direction. WBC are idiots and none of them are christians. God doesn’t tell them to go and do this. They are doing this all on their own.

  • Anicra

You know due to my background. I see WBC I think white blood cell….. I wonder in 10 years will the description/name of the White blood cell be banned?

  • SongLi

yep, WBC should instead focus on Beyonce

  • Magnifico

How do you join that church? I’m not too crazy about the ones around here.

    • mickeyco

Not positive, but I think you have to pass a test on how to hate- especially gays, but anyone else who disagrees with you. You have to forget everything Christ ever taught. Last, you have to learn how to scream bad names and otherwise show disrespect to our soldiers, alive or dead. There may be more, but that’s all I’m fairly sure of.

  • John Howard

Can’t decide which one to join, Westboro Baptist or Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity United.
So much to get hatin’ about, I don’t know where to start.

    • MarcusFenix

Join both, get twice the hatred for half the price!

  • Jeff Coil

Why does anyone still care what WBC does? Most of the real congregation left years ago. Those that remain are just a bunch of attention whores, mostly just one family. Sounds to me like they are getting desperate for the spotlight, since the protesting military funerals stich has gotten old.
Instead of getting angry with them, just point-laugh-ignore.

  • MarcusFenix

I will admit up front, I have no idea who One Direction are…

That said, I believe everyone has the right to free speech, but the WBC *seriously* makes me reconsider that stance at times. I simply take solace in the fact that one day, they’ll have to account for their hatred and ignorance towards others, rather than living by the actual message they were supposed to use.

  • rustypaladin

BWAHAHAHA! I’m laughing so hard I’m crying! Because teenage girls swooning at the latest fly-by-night boy band is such a sign of homosexuality. This is almost as funny as these idiots protesting ComicCon in 2010 (Hint to protestors: Don’t protest something more interesting than you are)

  • Slugglife

Nevermind the deceased troops. Unite for One Direction! Sometimes it makes you wonder what we are fighting for. Our children are effing morons.

  • Rj Pinder

They “crossed the line” when they picketed one direction but i guess its not “crossing the line” when they picket a troops funeral who died for their country. Society is so fucked up.
