John Ondrasik of Five for Fighting knows how to survive as a conservative in the entertainment industry, and he also knows a simple truth about Alec Baldwin and Hollywood: no right-winger’s career would survive an unhinged, threatening rant punctuated by anti-gay slurs.

The jury is still out on Baldwin’s future as a pitch man for Capital One, but he’s survived controversies and kept that gig before. Not even “Rock of Ages” could end his career.

I’m not so sure he would NEVER work again, although definitely more outrage. Look at Mel Gibson, he has had a little bit of work since his issues. Although Mel is probably more likable in general than Alec(who always seems to be a douche).

    • Pearlbuck

Gibson has been essentially blacklisted. His last film was not even allowed release in America, even though it was a decent example of the genre.

    • LochGates44

      Mel isn’t likable either.

There is also the distinction of Mel Gibson supposedly struggling with an addiction problem, which, if he were on the “correct side” in Hollywood would have been acknowledged as a factor in his troubles.

As for Baldwin…the only addiction problem he seems to have is to his own bigotry and hate. How he continues to spew this trash and keep the support of Hollywood tells you all you need to know about those phonies. Hate and bigotry is allowed if you’re one of their anointed inner circle, Mr. Ondrasik is 100% correct.

By the way, how does his booster club explain away the fact that Alec Baldwin so often uses gay slurs to insult people he is targeting? The use of the slur is bad enough, but to use the idea of someone being gay as a way to discredit or belittle them points to a particular hatred of homosexuals, does it not?

There would be calls for him to be blacklisted if he was a conservative from MSNBC among others.

  • fishydude

The Hollywood blacklist has always been against conservatives. Even during the so-called McCarthy era, it was conservatives that got blacklisted. That us why John Wayne’s movies had so many of the same people. He hired the conservative actors that the studios blacklisted.
BTW, McCarthy was proven to be correct.

Well, Adam Baldwin is right wing and he’s doing pretty well for himself. (Disclaimer: Yes, I know Adam is not one of the Baldwin brothers. It’s a joke, son! Pay attention!)

    • MarcusFenix

We should start putting up “Jayne Cobb for 2016” posters around…..maybe we could even get some people to make a clay statue of him and put it in town. Wonder if we’d get some people on board?

I’d vote for him, wouldnt think twice about it.

  • John Rebori

Alec has talked of wanting to run for mayor of NYC. I can’t imagine him surviving the primary once any opponent simply ran his own recorded rants and insults. He has managed to insult a good chunk of the liberal base at one time or another in ways that are recorded and openly available.

But then he isn’t exactly a Rhodes scholar, is he?

  • mickeyco

And, boy, wouldn’t that be a loss to the entertainment industry?

The double standard in our society is outrageous! For example, Paula Deen was immediately fired and scorched for something she said 30 years ago. She genuinely apologized, yet she loses everything. Alec, Jason Biggs, Adam Levine, Bill Maher, Sean Penn, Cher, Roseanne, Kathy Griffin, Joy Behar, Whoopi, can get away with saying bigoted, hateful things against Christians and conservatives. They don’t apologize. They keep doing it, and they simply laugh it off when they are called out on it. The same sponsors that have kept these people dumped deen. I know Deen is a democrat, but she is a good, wholesome, Christian woman. She has given so much money to various charities; Including those that help African-Americans. It’s sad that our society wants to destroy the wholesome and reward the truly bigoted individuals. Individuals who are sick of this need to contact advertisers and sponsors and let them know how you feel. Tell them you will no longer support them.

    • MarcusFenix

well, to be fair my blonde, over 9000 friend…

Paula is being sued for things connected to racism and saying the N word between like 2007 and 2010, i believe.

      • ssj429

Your message makes no sense. And no… you are wrong about the lawsuit

  • lillymckim

John Ondrasik is right on the money!
