David Sirota probably was hoping that the person behind a vulgar Facebook post aimed at University of Wyoming student and radio host Meg Lanker-Simons was a white American male, but police now say that Lanker-Simons posted the threat herself.
The Laramie Boomerang reports:
The University of Wyoming Police Department issued a citation Monday afternoon in Albany County Circuit Court for Meg Lanker-Simons, a woman allegedly threatened last week in a social media post authorities now contend was a hoax.
…
The post was made to the UW Crushes page April 24 on Facebook and described Lanker-Simons as “that chick that runs her liberal mouth all the time and doesn’t care who knows it.”
The post also referenced a graphic, sexual act against Lanker-Simons.
“One night with me and shes gonna be a good Republican (expletive),” the post read.
The post had inspired an on-campus demonstration Monday against “rape culture,” which Lanker-Simons documented on her website. Photos of the event remain, along with a brief message to the press: “In regards to recent allegations, I’ve retained counsel and entered a plea of not guilty. Any further questions can be directed to my attorney of record, Charles Pelkey of Laramie.” Her Twitter account was apparently taken down today.

Lanker-Simons was a plaintiff in a suit against the university in 2010 after Weather Underground alumnus Bill Ayers was disinvited from speaking on campus. She was also honored by Think Progress last year for her live-blogging of the GOP primaries.

Remember when that idiot claimed she was beat up by Obama supporters in '08 and it was huge news because she lied? http://t.co/v7DLZvhXef

@WYGOP When are u calling on an apology from Meg Lanker-Simon, UW and her supporters for disparaging republicans with #UWcampushoax

University police say they “obtained substantial evidence verifying that the offending Facebook post came from Lanker-Simons’ computer, while the computer was in her possession,” and before President Obama was able to call Lanker-Simons and offer his support.
If @BarackObama had another daughter she would look like Meg Lanker-Simons.

In a statement, the university said that it hopes the charge against Lanker-Simons “does not change the necessity for continued vigilance in reassuring that we have a campus where everyone feels safe,” though as Twitchy has reported, universities don’t have a very good track record when it comes to empowering women against rape.
