The mother of Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev insisted to the press yesterday that her sons were set up, telling journalists that the FBI had looked into (and presumably cleared) older son Tamerlan over a period of years. Zubeidat Tsarnaeva said that she’d encountered a culture of corruption among police in Chechnya, but here in America, we’re beginning to see our own disturbing pattern of missed opportunities and Monday morning quarterbacking.

Today we learned that it was reportedly Russia that had asked the FBI to investigate Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

We don’t know who Tapper’s source is, but we have no problem believing it would be rare for Russia to enlist the help of the FBI unless there were a clear security threat to either nation. In the meantime, CNN is reporting that the House Homeland Security Committee is going to press the Obama administration for answers.

The FBI investigated Tsarnaev, who died this week after a late-night shoot-out with police, at the request of Russian authorities, according to a senior U.S. official. Tsarnaev and his younger brother Dzhokar, who was taken into custody a day after his brother’s death, are originally from the Caucasus region and immigrated to the United States in the 2000s.

Reps. Mike McCaul of Texas, the committee’s chairman, and Peter King of New York, the former committee chairman, are preparing a letter to Director Robert Mueller and Attorney General Eric Holder seeking details about that questioning, the GOP congressional source said.

  • TJ

The reason why is there are not enough FBI agents to follow every person who travels to Russia for bomb training and we still should not give the government the ability to follow people in a pre-crime way

  • cocamars

Another big question::why wasn’t the FBI able to recognize and name the older brother shortly after pinpointing him on the video? Didn’t anyone think to check the FBI files of potential jihadists that had been interviewed in person by FBI agents in the Boston area? How many files like that could exist?

    • leitskev

KEY point. Excellent point. This needs to be asked.

    • Liberty

Do you really think he’s that recognizable with the hat & sunglasses on? I sort of think if Dzokhar would have been less recognizable with his hat forward & sunglasses on. Thank God he was stupid.

      • cocamars

The older brother was the only one interviewed by the FBI and he was very recognizable. Just put the clearest picture the FBI had next to any picture of him on the internet. No doubt it is him.

    • Walt

I they had just given the pic to Abbie and McGee they would have had a name, phone records, bank accounts, employment history and sperm count within a few minutes.

  • Jimni27

Reminds me of the Benghazi runaround : “It’s wasn’t us, ask the CIA. No- it’s not us ask the State Dept.” And on and on it will go until they just say ” Let’s move on, there are more important things to deal with”. It’s become their modus operandi.

    • Scott Carroll

Don’t forget the inevitable, “At this point, what difference does it make?”

      • Jimni27

And the “If you’re gonna blame anyone blame me” Then avoid taking questions at press conferences.

        • Scott Carroll

I love how he stood cowering behind Hillary’s pantsuit and let her take all the heat for that little cockup. Then after she said it was her fault, he bravely stood in front and sternly said, “If they (the Senate Committee) have questions, they should ask me.” Nice job champ.

          • BeautifulAmerica

Our own fault. We’ve given the reins of our country to a mentally-ill middle-school child. All we have to do is take it back. And start over.

    • malb

Exactly what I was thinking as well.

  • TocksNedlog

Napolitano: “The system worked! . . . Well, it WOULD’VE worked — if we had paid attention.”

    • Joe W.

If the system had worked, 4 people in Boston would be alive today…..

      • Guest

five, if you count Tamerlan Tsarnaev

        • Joe W.

          I do not. He was a Muslim…..not “people”…..

    • Momo

Nepolitano is the same tool who claimed, after the photos were released of the evil brother bombers, I wouldn’t say that they are “suspects” exactly…how does she keep her job? Unbelieveable!

      • BeautifulAmerica

Cuz she’s malleable by the super-controllers in the White House.

  • Steve_J

Makes me wonder just how deeply they looked into the murderer. I suspect since it was likely related to islamic terrorism probably not to deeply.

  • Paratisi

Yea, that’s all we need… Another rino committee, helping the Butcher of Benghazi, sweep another crime under the rug. These rino TRAITORS & Obama Co-Conspirators need to go while we still have a country to save!

    God Bless America!

  • Stephen K

This is a British media source – sadly, the only place to get actual news about the US, instead of White House/DNC propaganda.

If this is true, then the FBI had been aware for many months prior to the Boston bombing that Tamerlan Tsarnaev very likely had ties to radical Islamists. And yet, they couldn’t be bothered to even interview him before he turned up Thursday night/Friday morning, tossing homemade grenades and shooting at police before he was gunned down and then run over by his younger brother.

I guess they were too busy chasing after “right-wing Tea Party extremists” that turned out to be nothing but a product of the left’s wishful thinking.

    • mike_in_kosovo

Love the comments from some of the idiots on that page…

    • Elke E. Wilhelm

Napolitano and ICE were too busy sexually harassing male staffers. Maybe if the Tsaraev Brothers had dressed more provocatively then Napolitano may have paid greater attention to them.

  • CO2 Producer

Jake’s got a lot of nerve to ask questions that matter.

  • tops116

This was supposed to be 2011, right? Well, how nice that ten years after 9/11, the FBI still continued to ignore obvious leads about dangers to the country, thus resulting in harm befalling many innocent people.

  • Michelle

Well, the good news is…the left absolutely, positively, in no way whatsoever has an inch of room to say, “Bush’s fault!” Nope, this one sits square on Barry’s lap.

    • kate_middleton

They’ll figure out some way though. They’ll probably say that Mueller was appointed by Bush.

    • Guest

      They’ll blame the scarequester.

  • malb

WH/ HomelandSecurity/ FBI going to play hot potato until someone finally says “I take responsibility” but “WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE AT THIS POINT!??” and then enjoy great state press and run for president.

  • GoSellCrazySomeplaceElse

    But, but…sequessssssttttterrr!

  • Tommy

What the hell is the point? Obama will never be held accountable. Eric Holder will never be held accountable. Clinton and no rat in his cabinet will ever be held accountable.

Benghazi… nope. Fast and Furious… nope. NRLB… nope. Abuse of power… nope.

So these toothless “inquiries” mean absolutely nothing. Unless some real justice is served and those rat bastards are held accountable, don’t waste our time with fake concern.

If they’re truly concerned, hold Obama accountable.

    • fireandreamitchell

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

    • BeautifulAmerica

I agree with you, and would add that:
T obadma team’s concern is the exact opposite of ours.
They are not on our side and must be ousted.
American citizens want peace, prosperity, and justice. The traitors we put in our White House want civil turmoil, government dependency, and martial law/control. Muslim-ring-wearing o badma supports al qu eda and the musl im brothe rhood with guns while tantruming to deprive US citizens ours.

      Demand action from your representatives.

  • $1014973

Obama let this happen. The 4 deaths are 100% on him.

  • Jack Deth

Holder’s and Obama’s fingerprints are all over this!

  • PatriotGlory

I don’t know. Considering these guys made low quality explosives with what seems to be household goods, in a “lone wolf” situatiom, I can see them having the ability to completely fly under the radar, even after a FBI investigation.

    • Elke E. Wilhelm

They had training somewhere outside the U.S. – No lone wolves.

      • Wolf Moon

One more reason to think training might be the nastiness of the act. Real nastiness takes training – like cartel murderers, Rape of Nanjing participants, or Adam Lanza 24/7 Call of Duty. The older bro was brought up to Chechnya horrorshow standards.

      • BeautifulAmerica

Or inside, thru their mosque co-conspirators.

  • JR48

It’s an important question: Why would Russia ask us to investigate someone? Seems that they were suspicious and had some evidence that he wasn’t on the up and up. WHAT did they tell us?

Sounds like that’s a fundamental question to answer.

  • kim

and somehow, the same people snickering over their refusal to answer questions about Fast and Furious, Benghazi and illegals pouring over the border, will just suddenly decide to answer questions on this?

  • Tom Anderson

Kind of like the crickets we hear on the Gosnell trial? How does it feel to be ignored by people who dont agree with your agenda?

  • Wolf Moon

Beck has something big on the AQ Saudi student that leaked out from patriots in the Fed who are duly horrified – he’s releasing it on Monday. Sounds like a Drudge-level scandal. Don’t just jump to the comments – listen to the video or read the transcript:

  • LoriGirl

12 years after 9/11 and this gigantic federal government is even worse. Go figure.

  • Momo

When the President of the United States bends over backward so far that he can kiss his own behind, to avoid uttering the words terrorist or terror attack or militant Islam, how can we expect to EVER stop these vile animals who are trying to kill innocent citizens and disrupt Americas free society?

  • Liberals Needhelp

Bush did it. Somehow, some way, they will link it all to George W. Bush….although, one would find it hard to fathom that a 9 yr. old & a 15 yr. old refugee from a known area in political and military strife, w/ relatives in the USA already w/ zero known ties to terrorism….would end up becoming two Boston Bombers.
Hillary, who has made an amazing and complete recovery from life threatening fall and head/brain injury just a few months ago, as she prepares for 2016…..said it all….what does it matter? Get over it, fuggetaboutit…. John Kerry repeated her words in his own dull-a-tone sound, aren’t there more important things to talk about, then that old old Benghazi story.
Thank you Jake for bothering to mention it. I do enjoy seeing the ‘experts’ on tv from the CIA & FBI that say, hey, you can’t get them all. Where the heck is Richard Clark? Bush knew, they did this & that….oh yeah, but, not that & this.. No mind. Where is Colin Powell ready to blame the leadership? Come on now guys…line up & take your best shots at the Obama team.
Arrogance more than anything ….. why listen to nutty Putin’s teams concern about the guy? Why worry about a guy who was essentially kicked out of Russia by his own family for being too fanatical, and weird, for them!

  • PatriotRG

big question is – why weren’t likely Islamist interviewed in Boston over a window of time NOT cross checked with the photos of the two brothers placing bombs, why did the FBI not simply draw up a list of interviewed Islamist 5 year window in Boston area against the pictures?

  • snyper77

This may start a real shitstorm for obarry

    • Clings2Religion

      Cmon really? He’s untouchable.

    • BeautifulAmerica

I fervently pray you are right.

    • DurkaDurka

Every office of government has been infiltrated by the foreign born Islamo-Communist in Chief. There will be Zero repercussions. In fact, this is going to keep happening until OCommi bans all guns.

How do I know this? Because it’s happened in every Communist/Socialist takeover of every Country in History.

    • Rachel

Why? The Teflon Tyrant has survived every other shitstorm that came his way. Easy to do when the LSM won’t report honestly.

  • Hajjster

All the DoJ will do is sit some mid-level in a committee and obfuscate. “That’s still under investigation.” “I’m not sure, I’ll have to ask ______ .” “We’re doing our best right now to identify what happened.” Bunch of lawyers.

  • J.N. Ashby

Yeah, so we should give up our constitutional rights to people that don’t do their job right with the powers they already HAVE. That totes makes sense.

  • Ed

Ok and the FBI finds this out. He has yet to break any laws what can they do?

  • CKComments

Sounds like the Keystone [pipeline] Cops.

  • Robert A. Hall

They keep saying “If you see something, say something.” Of course, you will likely be vilified by the media as a racist (what race are Muslims?) Islamophobe, lose your job and be shunned by all right thinking people if you do. Which is why those who heard Maj. Nidal Hasan’s inflammatory remarks kept quiet. A charge of Islamophobia from a Muslim in the military is a career ender. So tough, but those 13 people had to die. ~Bob.) I will link to this from my Old Jarhead blog. (

What were the odds that the Saudi national who was at first suspected in the bombing was also on the deportation list? Yet, somehow over time Janet and her crew and the FBI just couldn’t find the time or resources or >>inclination<< to track him down and put him on a plane in a jumpsuit.

Actually, given our State Department's new express processing of visa requests by Saudi's he would probably be back in a jiffy anyway. But hey, what difference does it make?
