We didn’t need a graph to tell that social media sites like Twitter were indispensable in shaming mainstream news outlets into acknowledging the very existence of the horrifying Kermit Gosnell trial. The outpouring of demand from the public was overwhelming, to the point where the story of the abortion house of horrors has won the lead slot on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” tonight. The guest? The director of an ongoing documentary series about Gosnell.

CNN’s Jake Tapper and Erin Burnett also covered the trial today, with Tapper admitting it was an “undercovered” story.

The Washington Post, whose health policy reporter had dismissed the trial as a “local crime” story, also was forced to admit that it shouldn’t have taken this push from the public to dedicate a reporter to the story. As Twitchy reported earlier, there are plenty of empty seats available at the courthouse.

They are not shamed into anything. Planned Parenthood finally gave them cover.

  • wwbdinct

Well, well, well…I might just have to watch AC tonight…..

    • Clayton Grant

Even this will not get me to watch him again.

      • wwbdinct

Never watched him until tonight. He was fair. Toobin couldn’t admit there was no coverup on the reportage.

        • Guest

Couldn’t admit there was no coverup on the reportage?

  • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

About damn time, I’m afraid though that it will turn into another Benghazi or Fast & Furious situation where it will either be mentioned in passing or become an anti-conservative hit piece.

    • jmz

oh im sure it will.. it already is, as we see here on twitchy.

      • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

Yep, it is a Friday too so people are usually out and won’t see it. I bet there will be little mention of it again by Monday.

  • allen

still crickets in Philly…except news radio about every 7 days

    • Cory

This story was in the Philly Inquirer.

      • nc

Oh, well. In that case, let’s move on…

  • Clayton Grant

I think Twitchy deserves a LOT of the credit for pushing these “journalist” to cover this horrific story.
    .
    WTG Twitchy!

    • http://twitter.com/conservag Aaron

We did it! Now we need to make sure the conversation doesn’t die with this trial.

      • Clayton Grant

We also need to lead the conversation, Aaron. This whole thing reminds me of an Oscar Wilde quote:
        .
“The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame.”

Stay Golden Twitchy! Your a wonderful place to be for Telling it like it is and being Truthful unlike the MSM who tried to block this out like they did #Beghazi! Lets just say after what I seen on my twitter today #Gosnell just infuriates me! I cried for those little Baby Angels and the Mothers who lost their lives to this Sadistic Monster! God Bless You Twitchy..

  • TJ

If they only reported on stories that do not need a disclaimer before any details where given they would not have reported WW2.

  • Roy

Sorry I never trust the media especially on a Friday. They’ll cover it tonight and hope it burns out by Monday. Sorry not getting my hopes up.

  • Cory

Actually this story was covered way before this week. Tapper talked about it March 21 and I even found stories about it from 2011. Lets stop the unnecessary outrage about MSM coverage, it sounds like whining. Most people don’t even watch network news. Also Fox News is also the MSM and they’ve covered it too.

    • wwbdinct

Whining? No honey. Sandra Fluke whines. The murder and maiming of babies and women is a crime.

      • Cory

I wasn’t talking about the abortion guy, I’m talking about the constant whining about the media. Yes the media leans left, whining about it constantly isn’t going to change it.

        • wwbdinct

Shutting up about it won’t change it either.

          • Cory

Isn’t Fox News part of the MSM?

          • wwbdinct

            Ummm….No.

          • Cory

They have more viewer than CNN and MSNBC combined and yet they aren’t apart of the MSM. That makes sense.

          • wwbdinct

You know damn well the MSM is not just television but print as well. In any event, you deflect from the original story of Kermit Gosnell and his legal abortion house of horrors which was well known to the PA Dept. of Health and which nothing was done about for political reasons per Anderson Cooper’s reporting tonight.

          • Cory

The dude is guilty and should be put away for good. You don’t need great reporting to conclude that.

          • Paladin
        • Clayton Grant

What you call whining, we call demanding that journalist do their job.

          • IrishEi

Cory just wants Gosnell put away and wants the media to shut up about the whole thing. Megan McArdle revealed why:

“…this has disturbing implications for late-term abortions. It suggests
that sometimes, those fetuses are delivered alive. Worse, it hints at
what we might be doing inside the womb to ensure that the other ones
            aren’t.”

        • ERMERGERD

Media shouldn’t “lean” either way. Journalism, actual journalism, is unbiased.

    • mike_in_kosovo

You found stories about Gosnell’s trial, which started last month, in 2011?

      Well, aren’t you special?

    • 3seven77

Ooooh, you even found stories from 2011! Bet you didn’t find them on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, or PBS.

  • wwbdinct

Jeffrey Toobin spinning his way out of why this hasn’t been covered by the MSM – says it’s only Conservatives who feel this way – there is no left wing MSM cover-up. Credit to Anderson Cooper but Toobin’s absurd reasoning as to why this isn’t a major news story shamed the whole purpose of this story to begin with. Protect the left wing agenda at all costs!

  • Marvin Nelson

Thank God for Twitchy and Twitter. The MSM should be ashamed for their lack of coverage of such an important trial. The media have reached a new low with their biased non-treatment of the story. Bunch of liberal dopes. Just reminds me why I don’t follow any of the Lame Stream Media.

  • gracepmc

And don’t forget JD Mullane who reported and sent the awesome empty seat photo :

Bucks County Courier Times columnist J.D. Mullane reports that there
were just “nine people in the seats” at the Gosnell murder trial on
Thursday and only local press showed up.

  • bri

It took a democrat (Powers) to make them cover the story.

    • PatriotRG

Much as i loath lefties – I actually respect Powers. She is intellectually honest. Unlike Beckles who is the typical lefty.

  • lcky9

maybe it’s time we take it ALL to twitter ..seems when something IMPORTANT to be reported it’s going to by OUR SIDE that will have to tell MSM what is going on in the REAL WORLD..THANKS TWITCHY!!

  • 3seven77

The Tapper piece is really just a whitewash. Things took “an ugly turn”? Really Jake? That’s all you can say?

  • nc

I admit I had been avoiding it (because I’m squeamish), but I just now watched the short film posted above “3801 Lancaster.” If you haven’t seen it yet, I urge you to watch it (approx 20 min), and share it.

  • Michele L.K.

The only reason the MSM did not cover this story, is because it contradicts their advocacy for abortion and arguments of when life begins. They have argued that life doesn’t begin in the womb, so it is not considered murder. They say life begins at Birth, and now planned parenthood wants to argue that even though the child was born alive, the mother wanted to abort it anyways and it is still her decision to avoid calling it murder. Once that child is born alive, it is protected by our Constitution and our Laws, and to kill it, it is Murder. Trying to use the analogy that the mother wanted to abort it anyways is no argument or even a standing debate, you can’t have it both ways, either you stand by what you have preached over the years that life begins at birth and take this as murder for what it truly is, or I believe, they will now try to put a time limit of when a baby is actually alive, either at first feeding, drink, bowel movement, or the cutting of the cord to separate it from the mother. I will reference this post if any of those I stated are going to be used in new arguments of when life begins by the left, just so they can advocate abortion.

    • Paladin

Nice job articulating what many of us have been thinking! When decent people are forced to ponder when it’s “acceptable” to abort a baby, they may come to the conclusion that abortion is exactly what pro-life advocates say it is. How big does the void on a person’s soul have to be to not be sickened by this carnage of innocents.

    • PatriotRG

      well said

    • 1972patriot

That is one of the reasons but not the deciding reason. IMHO The Obama machine instructed them not to report on it. Obama is on record supporting infanticide. The MSM has been performing their normal cover-up for this admin. Had the MSM not had those orders, they would have went after this story like vultures and narrated it as civil rights violations.

Good job, Twitterverse! Good job, Michelle Malkin!

This would never EVER had made the main stream media if not for these!

Now they have to switch to full on damage control. It was either that or lose all credibility (what little remains.)

  • Agent_Zeero

They can all go to hell. Why do you think they decided on a Friday.

  • cgraham77

Can’t we just put the MSM out to pasture already.

Does ANYBODY still use any of the MSM outlets as a credible source of info anymore? Good grief, the only thing CNN is good for is their endless and continuous loop of 2 or 3 news stories, to help with severe insomnia…Perfect for hotel rooms when you can’t sleep!!

C’mon folks…throw out your televisions! I did it years ago and have never looked back.

  • mrtapeguy

I am NO fan of the MSM but it appears at least NBC covered the story.

Good going Twitchy..let’s hope the MSM doesn’t get “tired” of this after a week or so, this is a conversation that needs to be had.

  • teamfrazzled

Gosnell forced the premature delivery of viable babies-that is not an abortion, it is a birth. Then he held them in his hand and murdered them with scissors. That isn’t an abortion-its a birth followed by murder. The media could have reported this is NOT an abortion and not how they are done. The media could avoided the discussion that the identical act done while covered by a layer of mom’s skin feels the exact same to the viable infant -and played up the fact at least the child would not have been able to scream as they sometimes did when Gosnell murdered them. The guy was a typical serial killer who found the perfect job. He didn’t have to troll for victims, moms brought them to him. He even cut off their feet of his victims and then proudly displayed trophies of all his kills. And no doubt laughed all the way to the bank that he was actually getting paid for doing what would get anyone else a death penalty. And the bonus was a corrupt media intent on hiding, defending and protecting this monster. He is a real testament to the moral decay of society and the moral bankruptcy of the left.
