Comedian Patton Oswalt’s tweet is a compliment, in a way: despite his being an “evil hop-frog,” Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia doesn’t seem convinced that the sole purpose of marriage is procreation. Well, that’s not quite the entire argument, but why fret over semantics?

https://twitter.com/lucelalucy/status/317032632351330304

https://twitter.com/MAGICvsSCIENCE/status/317033530091782144

https://twitter.com/boucherfarm/status/317034388028280834

Even the Los Angeles Times seemed disappointed that the “irascible” and “famously acid-tongued” Scalia was “surprisingly tame” during arguments over Proposition 8 and DOMA. Maybe he’s not such an evil hop-frog after all? Now that that’s settled, Oswalt can get back to making gay jokes about Marcus Bachmann and the rest of Twitter can continue tweeting Scalia death wishes.

It is arrogance not evolution that has led to this debate. Here is he shorter #SSM answer. Get Govt out of Marriage 100% leave it at the state level if any has to be imposed. If you get a divorce and move out of that state and want to sue… go back to home state. Same as small claims courts today. Respect the individual not the group, no matter how large or small!

I didn’t know who he was. I have been in Saudi Arabia working for the past 15 years and I do not watch much television. So I went to Google and YouTube. Based on how funny he does not seem to be, he is evidently not much of a comedian.

            Great to see you, Grumpa!

          • Grumpa Grumpus

Thank you for your concern, sir!

No, I’m still hanging on. I’ve beat the predictions of the doctors — but the writings on the wall. I am not always able to read Twitchy. I’m so tired all the time, but I try, b/c I enjoy it so. It’s like listening to a conversation by my “extended family”.

Even more rarely can I summon the energy to write some thing — or use the DragonSpeaking program my Great-Granddaughter installed to allow dictating my journals. On a really good day I can answer w/several medium-length or shorter comments.

I have a grandson stationed in a hot zone who will be back soon.

Of all my children, he takes the most after me, we’re unusually close as Grandparent/Grandchild relationships go, (out of courtesy he asked my opinion of the woman who became his wife, for example…).

The last letter I received from his expressed his disappointment at not being here. Heavenly Father willing, I’m staying right here until he’s back.

Again, thank you for thinking kindly of me! I’ll read here as often as I can and pop-in as I’m able!

My Best to you and yours! And to all my other friends here, too!

          • Miss Clairee

G G – I don’t know much of you, as I am relatively new to Twitchy. I am a former healthcare professional (particularly in the home health and home hospice arena) so if you need anything…..I mean anything, I can probably provide assistance or guidance……..help with meds, comfort care, opinions on treatment from well-known professionals, etc. Please let me know via this site if I can assist you in any way! God Bless You!

          • Love of Country

God Bless, Grumpa …. and you have more friends here than you know ….. such a wonderful community here for us to share.

I’m also glad you’re so close with your Grandson who is in harm’s way …. I know y’all mean the world to each other.

You take care of yourself and always remember you have many friends here on Twitchy. You’ve made this website and the world a better place for the rest of us, thank you, Grumpa Grumpus.

No, this economy has picked up on the back of the housing market inspite of Barry’s sweeping Keynesian policies and as such is still quite anemic. However, it is benefitting some 1%’ers, no?

      • TomJB

Yeah, the economy is “not in the gutter,” how so? Because, like, THE DOW!!!! Please. The average of the 30 stocks that make up the Dow are all time highs, well lah-de-frickin-da! Since you are obviously a low-information voter who gets their education from bumper stickers let me make this simple for you: The stock market =/= the economy.

        • $18912735

Well I am sure the Occupy Wall Street crowd is THRILLED that the DOW is climbing in this awesome economy of ours. I mean at least the rich are getting richer, even if nobody else is… great job, Mr. President!

Since you obviously are a dittohead, I’ll discount your handicap.  But thanks for your nonsensical response.

      • journogal

Yes, it must be nice for liberals to ignore what is happening in Cyprus and soon to be Italy and Spain. I guess in your unicorn world, it can never happen here. When you don’t have savings, 401ks, IRAs and other investments and think sugar daddy Obama is going to foot the bill, the world looks pretty good, doesn’t it? Oh, and I guess you didn’t get the news that Obamacare is going to raise rates quite noticeably as well. Who would have thought free would be so expensive. You and your ilk are going to fall the hardest when it all comes apart. And it will.

        • $24698634

You have no idea what my ilk is.  I’m retired, own a home, have money, collect SS and have health care.  So maybe your unicorn world is self-reflected.

        Are you kidding?
Are you blind to gas and food prices lately?
My house has lost over 40% of it value, yet you say the economy is not in the gutter.
Quit following your leader and think for yourself. Geez

        • Ronald

Capitalism is inherently unstable and prone to peaks and valleys. We’re in a valley, but coming out of it.

      • E Quilibrate

ks, to what economy could you possibly be referring?

  • TJ

Getting a tax credit for being marred had nothing to do with a nudge for children from the governments or something. The government just wanted to reward the people for being married with no reason why.

    • Chase C.

That’s a point they just don’t get. They are greedy assholes. They want a label and tax credits that were created for a MAN AND A WOMAN creating more tax payers.

      • Jonathan

Even when you turn 50 you can still provide maternal and paternal care through things like grand parenting and adoption. Giving marriage to only men and women makes sense as it allows the laws to be tailored for this demographic specifically so that they can help raise children.

  • hatsylady

I call Patton Oswalt an ugly horned toad, but personally find horned toads to be a million times cuter.

  • vino veritas

This coming from a fat, little, vulgar, untalented cornball who looks like hypno toad.
Heaven forbid libtards like him ever get the simple fact that happy successful families are built on a traditional marriage and that means far less broken homes and unhappy, screwed up adults who come from broken homes in America’s future. Then again, that’s not really what filthy, slithery, despicable, little tadpoles like him are really interested in, now is it?

1 thing about same-sex marriage (with all the changes to parental law) is that it implies that mothers and fathers are replaceable. If an extra-dad is the equivalent of a mother it means that the state does not think mothers are irreplaceable. Mothers can not be replaced by more fathers, government programs or anything. The same applies to fathers too but in reverse.

People in the entertainment industry are there for our amusement. It’s not my problem that they’ve set up this weird, liberal cult of personally and they all think we care about their rather limited & ill-informed opinions. They are, for the most part, insulated from opinions contrary to their own and generally never want to seek them out anyway. That would interfere with group think–a big no no (See insert any Conservative here) Ok, no problem. Whatever. You get paid big bucks to speak other people’s words so I’m not interested in yours unless you use reason and show some independent thought. I ignore their comments until someone says something so egregious, I can’t justify spending money on anything they do (See Jim Carrey and a cast of thousands).

Patton Oswalt is a comedian and I usually give them a pass. It’s funny, it’s not funny is the only litmus test unless they insult my religion, then all bets are off (See Bill Mahr.) So, just relax, sit back and wait for the “dance, monkey, dance” portion of the program. It’s entertaining and I’m not sure, but I think it burns calories as well! Oh, and please do me a favor. Don’t tell any of the trained seals what I said, or else the parties over, and who would I get to entertain me when I can’t sleep or have to go to the bathroom?

  • TomJB

Why does Oswalt foment hate and then claim to be on the side of love? Is he deliberately twisting the facts or does he simply not understand them, is his ignorance willful or does he just lack the intellectual capacity and maturity to understand and debate the facts and realities of the law?

  • rogueco
