Remember two days ago, when Sens. Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and others took over the Senate floor to argue the authority of the Constitution and demand accountability from the White House? Seems longer ago than that, doesn’t it? Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) took the floor Thursday to declare that playtime was over, the adults were in charge again, and Paul’s display was unhelpful and “did a disservice to a lot of Americans.”

President Obama already owns the terrible “optics” of a shuttered White House without Trump getting involved and offering a new target for criticism. Let’s do the smart thing just this once and see what happens.
