The Denver Post today reports that Colorado state Sen. Evie Hudak apologized to rape victim Amanda Collins in private for remarks she made at a hearing on Colorado’s campus gun ban last night. After Collins recounted her sexual assault at gunpoint in a campus “safe zone,” Hudak told her that “chances are that if you would have had a gun, then he would have been able to get that from you and possibly use it against you.”

Hudak said that while she feels terrible for what Collins and other rape victims have experienced, “I am actually really looking out for their best interest.” For her part, Collins told the Denver Post that she didn’t know “how genuine” Hudak’s apology was, and Ace of Spades and others didn’t find Sen. Hudak’s argument convincing either.

Denver University constitutional law professor Dave Kopel wasn’t buying the “best interest” line either and took Hudak to school.

The anti-gun demonstrator who said, “self-defense is not an option…they just gonna have to kill me” was seen nodding in approval.

  • DV S1EOG

Since this is all based on a bill to ban concealed carry on college campuses, I would like to see all stats on shootings on campuses in Co. that allowed conceal carry after it was legalized. I am guessing that there was no increase of shootings after allowing concealed carry or those stats would be used to make the argument to ban concealed carry.

  • waltzingmtilda

Thank goodness for Ace. I’ve been struggling for a way to articulate this rebuttal to this nonsense of “having a gun would make you less safe in a rape situation”. It displays an astonishing level of ignorance about what rape is, combined with a patronizing view towards women who choose to carry a gun.

    • 1SkepticalChick

Mtilda I am right there with you. I am so struggling with the rhetoric that is coming from the left regarding women in general. They have completely halted, and are in fact turning back the clock on women’s initiatives in every area. I am astounded and just p***ed off about the entire issue of liberals and their attitudes toward women. Nonsense does not begin to describe what is going on. I will never step foot in Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, or New York. My list of places I will not go, and will not send my tourism $$, or my online shopping $$ or any other $$, is growing in direct response to these attitudes. #WomenboycottColorado needs to trend.

      • dinnersready

Why Michigan ? We have a republican Gov,ltGov,att gen, secretary state, senate and legislature. We have a conservative Supreme Court and right to carry as well as right to work. Women here hunt and fish and carry guns a lot. We do have Detroit and Pontiac and Dearborn, sen Levine and stabinow, I give you that. We got rid of Loony lefty Jennifer Granholm and are trying to recover as best we can.

        • 1SkepticalChick

          Ok, Michigan can stay.

        • MaddieMoss

You gotta come to NY and show us how it’s done!

  • 1CatEye

Why didn’t she just pat the rape victim on the head and give her a lollipop? How condescending. How stupid. Yet, it’s conservatives who have a war on women! At least conservatives don’t wan’t to disarm women and make them easier targets.

    • waltzingmtilda

Yea, the whole “there, there sweetie” image came to my mind too. So infuriating.

    • BlueGood

      And the incredible UPROAR from N.O.W. in defense of women?? ….oh wait….is that a cricket I hear?….no….three crickets!….~~percussive snort~~

    • MaddieMoss

Hudak also forgot to say “next time, just lie back and enjoy it.” Sheesh! I can’t believe these people have a right to vote, much less hold elected office.

A survey of federal prisoners revealed that rapists – overwhelmingly – voted Democrat. In fact, it was revealed that those prisoners – generally – overwhelmingly voted Democrat.

      • Tangchung

That explains every couple years liberals want to grant prisoners the right to vote.

He was being sarcastic. He was pointing out to Amanda Collins the absurdity of liberals.

Oh, my, thank you. We just suffered a really tough special election here where the lines between R and D were so blurred, I lost perspective. I will sleep better tonight. Now, that makes sense.

  • $35072932

You know, for people who incessantly scream about being ‘Pro-choice’ they sure don’t seem to really like the concept.

    • TomJB

I actually had a liberal try to explain to me with a straight face why “pro-choice” only refers to the abortion issue and how someone who thinks choices should be denied in other instances can still be called “pro-choice.” Translation: they are only “pro-choice” when they agree with the choice you make, otherwise, you should not have the option of making your own choice. Simply amazing.

      • awm48

They are only “pro-choice” when they make the choice for you. FIFY :-)

And only for your “lady bits”. Freedom of choice that doesn’t involve hoo-has? BLASPHEMY.

It’s truly amazing what those folks ‘believe’.

They also don’t care about abortions because to them, they aren’t ‘children’ yet – and therefore they can go into sheer hysterics over a school massacre and advocate for abortion.

        • MaddieMoss

They don’t care about abortions because unborn children don’t VOTE.

Gun control: the concept that a woman raped and murdered is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got those holes in his chest.

    • 1SkepticalChick

Loving that pural thing you did there!

      • Justin Levesque

It’s how I was trained: Draw, aim, fire twice, check target, fire again if necessary. Besides, dropping an attacker loaded with adrenaline (and perhaps some illegal recreational enhancement)can take more than one shot. Two or three 9mm JHP’s will deflate a rapist’s circulatory system rather quickly.

  • Junie3

Hey now, if they get raped there’s a chance they might become pregnant and then we have another abortion and PP makes some money, that money helps fund the next dim politician. It’s a win win.

  • TomJB

I love the argument they always use: “chances are that if you would have had a gun, then he would have been
able to get that from you and possibly use it against you.”

Like those hundreds of stories we hear about every day when criminals have their guns taken away from them and used against them by their intended victims. With a willingness to use the weapon, and about an hour of training, its just not that easy to do.

    • nickshaw

To be truthful, that “willingness to use it” bug is hard to overcome.
Those are the people who give up their weapon to the attacker. ‘Cause they didn’t have the ability to pull the trigger even when they knew darn well they should have.

Something tells me the young lady who was raped didn’t fall into this category.

And a woman, no less is out there in a position of accountability …. Making these sort of pronouncements?

Women should rise up and BITCH SLAP this self-misogynist!

    • 1SkepticalChick

NO accountability, that’s the problem she will not be held accountable by her constituants for her position on this. A position of responsibility that she is misusing. She’s a former teacher who thinks other teachers are the only ones with an education or good sense and they are therefore obligated to continually “teach” the rest of us. Especially those of us who disagree with them. ‘Cause if we were smart and educated as well as she well then we obviously would agree with her. So she thinks she has to legislate us “for our own good”.
I’ll hold her, you slap her. But watch out for her whistle.

  • JR48

Rape is an act of violence. The last time I looked at the stats, the average rape is an hour and a half long. That rises to the level of torture. Not all women are left alive at the end of it.

Now honey, tell me again how I look at my daughter and say ‘you need to worry that he’ll shoot you’. No, I’m far more worried that he’ll kill her after torturing her, while she does nothing.

Train anyone with a firearm and they’re trained. Yes, Ms Feminist Hudak, that means women are entirely competent enough to protect themselves. And if that includes a rapist that gets shot, then that’s the risk that he took when he decided to prey on women.

If women can be competent in military combat or as law enforcement officers, then they’re perfectly capable of being trained to carry as private citizens. If you want to argue for mandatory training, I’ll get behind that. You want to argue that poor little girl couldn’t possibly shoot someone without becoming a victim, then that’s blatantly sexist and you’re a fool.

Hudak doesn’t just need to apologize to Amanda Collins, but to the rest of the women in America for suggesting that they’re too inept to protect themselves like men.

    • 1SkepticalChick

Well said! Ms Hudak calls herself a feminist for the sake of saying it. And because she calls herself feminist LIV’s will vote for her & believe the things that she says are right & true. Just because she claims the feminist tag & self attaches it to her name. Another instance of saying it doesn’t make it true. In practice, Ms Hudak, Progressives, Liberals, Democrats, whatever you choose to call them are busily undermining & disempowering women as fast as they can. Rights that Women have worked hard to gain are being attacked on a daily basis. I can remember a time when I, as a married woman, could not have credit in my own name, my husband had to sign along with me for anything on credit, even though he was not paying for whatever I was buying on credit. I could not have a vehicle in my name, it had to be in my husband’s name. I can remember shopping for cars, as recently as 20 years ago, and having the salesman ask me if I had discussed the purchase with my husband or boyfriend. I can remember being asked at job interviews if I was pregnant or planned on becoming pregnant. I remember what Joan London, as a very popular news anchor, went through when she became pregnant and the network took her off the air. For being pregnant. Yes, a woman could lose her job for having children. Not just for getting pregnant, but for having any children at all which might be inconvenient for her employer. Part of the reasoning behind abortion, btw.

And I can remember a time when Ms Hudak would never haver been considered for the elected office she holds. Or as an attorney, or as a Doctor, or Engineer. Simply because she is a woman, and therefore incapable of the intelligence and reasoning capability required for the complex thought processes required in such an office. Unable to behave or think in any way other than emotionally or independantly and irrationally. In her case I think those things are true. She is not in any way capable. She should take her tiny flappy hands home and make this fully capable woman a sammich ’cause I’m busy…cleaning my gun.

      • nickshaw

        Can you hear this, Chick?
        It’s me clapping!

        • JR48

I’m clapping too! LOL Well done!

Setting women back 50 years in one moronic statement. It wasn’t that long ago and having a supposedly liberal woman speak with such ignorance tells me that this sort of backwards thinking still exists.

I sat this am and watched Amanda Collins be interviewed on Fox and at the end she said that a woman approached her after she’d made her remarks and showed her the whistle on her key chain that didn’t save her when she was attacked and raped.

There really are no words for how I felt about that, especially in the context of this debacle. I don’t want to hear more women telling me their stories about how they were victims, I want to hear how they won the battle and the bad guy lost.

We are fully capable of protecting ourselves if the paternalistic government gets out of the way.

          • 1SkepticalChick

Women should take a hammer to those whistles, smash them flat, and overnight them to Hudak. Make a statement, ladies!

I would disagree, sir. Hammers and fence posts serve useful purposes, after all.

  • Kathy Skaggs

You can just bet that Sen. Hudak is afraid of gun and thinks everyone other female should be. But remember that Liberal love victims. They want everyone to be a victim so that the goverment has to step in and take care of everyone. All that does is increase their power and that is their goal.

  • CrossHugger

Why should his shock anyone, the liberals kill future taxpayers every day through abortion.

  • Hardy_har_har
