Many are remembering Trayvon Martin today on the first anniversary of his shooting death, and a candlelight vigil is scheduled for tonight in New York City. American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten came down firmly on the side of Team Trayvon today, and somehow managed to implicate the NRA as well for “empowering” George Zimmerman.

Weingarten didn’t stop there; she also conflated the Trayvon Martin shooting with the mass shootings in Aurora, Newtown and Columbine in a call to address “gun safety and mental health.”

And now, back to the teachers’ union’s regularly scheduled programming.

Yeah, I unfollowed her shortly before she posted that. Ignorant for a teacher, isn’t she?

    • milletime810

has she ever actually worked as a teacher?

      • Joe W.

I think she taught “Lesbian Studies” for a while….

        • NRPax

I took Women’s Studies for free at my college. It was more field observation than classwork. -:-)

          • BlueGood

I had to take a Womyn’s Studies program so I could be certified as a “Part Time Gyno” he heh….:o)

        • lainer51

I think her intern, who was used for “hands on” learning, was Madcow.

      • dukem1

Think of how many AFT dues-payers have to spend their days trynig to “teach” classrooms full of proto-Trayvons.
The idiocy this woman displays is, possibly, without peer in the public forum.
        We are all doomed.

    • BlueGood

If Randi had a seester she’d look just like this…..

  • Gloves Donahue, Jr.

Ignorant union thugette thinks she’s judge and jury.

    • Richard Jefferies

      They all do.

  • Tangchung

She belongs on the MSNBC “faces of future feminism” I thought it was Gary Busey mug shot photo.

  • Michelle

I have to give her credit for one thing (and one thing only) – she correctly blames gun safety and mental illness for the school shootings (even if she incorrectly includes Zimmerman’s self-defense shooting in there). Parents need to lock their guns up and get help for their kids.

Gun safety and mental illness aren’t at issue with Zimmerman. You can hear on the audio that he stopped following Martin when he was told it wasn’t needed and headed back to his car. Apparently, that’s when Martin (who ran off and hid) came out of nowhere and attacked Zimmerman. Zimmerman defended himself when he feared his life was in danger. You come out of nowhere, start slamming my head on the ground, Ima shoot you, too.

    • kenai

      That’s rraaaaycisss, Michelle.

      • Michelle

I know, right? I’d rather be alive after defending myself from someone giving me a beating and be called a racist, than be politically correct and…dead.

    • lissa

HERE she does – but she was on Fox last week, talking about Newtown and had her facts all wrong. She spouts the same talking points about gun control as those who just have an agenda, not the truth, and while I hope she has more facts now, she had me yelling at the television when she was on last week.

  • Steve_J

Too bad she doesn’t care as passionately about childrens education.

  • walterc

She failed to mention all the children killed in Chicago already this year. Why is that?

    • Corey Dennison

Cuz she can’t blame whitey for them.

  • CatHerder

Honeychile, learn at least some of the easy parts about the law. If the judge grants bail and the defendant makes it, he/she walks free. Innocent until proven guilty, wakarimasu ka?

  • Entropy156

I encourage everybody to send responses to this worthless union goon/Obama puppet on Twitter

  • NRPax

House Rs are choosing to layoff teachers & cut special ed & early childhood ed

Then maybe you should be telling the feds to stop taking money from the state governments who fund these things in the first place. Bless your heart; you just don’t know any better.

  • TugboatPhil

    Randi Weingarten✔
House Rs are choosing to layoff teachers & cut special ed & early childhood ed instead of eliminating tax breaks for corporate jet owners.

Once again I must ask a “public figure;” Why is the US Congress paying for public school teachers and early childhood ed in the first place?

As to tax breaks for corporate jet owners, if it’s in the tax code, then it’s law. You know, just like American citizens being forced to purchase insurance from privately owned companies. If you don’t like those breaks, you should have taken them out during 09-10 when Dems controlled all the federal government.

    • SpinMeNot

If they don’t give tax breaks to corporate jet owners, how is Menedez going to be able hook up with his under-aged sweeties.

  • Gallatin

Hey randy our guns are none of your freakin’ business.

  • ceemack

I’d say that we do need finally to address mental health.

Apparently, we need to start with this Randi Weingarten person.

  • Guest

Why, isn’t this a surprise. Another judgmental hippo-mouthed screaming liberal Medusa .

  • Randi Starr

What the hell is it to this lost cause? Someone slap her back to reality!

  • lainer51

Wow, what an attractive woman! I bet she is smart too.. ROFLMAO

  • Michael Self

What did she do with the billions raised through the higher tobacco taxes of the last 10 years?
