Kudos to Beyonce for bringing the reporters assembled at today’s Super Bowl press conference to their feet — for a live rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner.” Nothing wrong with a little patriotism, especially where the press is involved. Obviously, though, the stunt wasn’t about the anthem but about Beyonce, who was criticized for lip-syncing at President Obama’s inauguration ceremony.
Beyoncé opened her press conference by singing the National Anthem. A Capella. Then said “Any questions?” http://t.co/fvhkA2ns

Beyonce: "I love haters. No shade. No hate."

After her performance, the singer laughed and asked, “Any questions?” Well, there’s the obvious question: why sing live at the Super Bowl but not inauguration? “It was about the president and the inauguration, and I wanted to make him and my country proud, so I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry,” she explained.
Fans required no explanation, though.

So, if Beyonce sings live, it’s AMAZING. And if she lip syncs, it’s equally AMAZING because it’s all about the performance. Piers Morgan was among those defending the lip syncing for some reason and was please to see Beyonce wield the anthem as a “screw you” to critics.
#Beyonce singing national anthem live at her press conference was one of the smartest, coolest things I've ever seen a star do. Magnificent!

I probably need to unfollow ALL media at the Super Bowl now. I can only stand so many Beyonce tweets.

Beyonce, we all know you CAN sing it. But you didn't. That's the point.

Update: About as surprising as the fact that Beyonce’s inauguration performance was prerecorded was the suggestion that the press’s questions were pre-approved.
