For a group that seems to think conservatives are the anti-science party for questioning man-made climate change, liberals certainly seem to think karma controls the weather. As a handful of tornadoes touched down in the South today, including one in Adairsville, Ga., that did significant damage, some people’s thoughts turned not to the victims but to recent votes on Capitol Hill.

Members of the House GOP, and Rep. Paul Ryan in particular, took a public relations beating when they voted against the pork-filled aid package, and on Monday, 36 senators voted no on a $51 billion aid package. Memories of that vote were fresh on quite a few people’s minds.

It matters not to these selfish liberals that the “NO” votes were because 75% of the money requested was pure pork and had nothing to do with “sandy” relief. WE HAVE NO MONEY, folks. Emergency relief is one thing, pork and new projects/spending is quite another. But East Coast snobs will never understand such things.

In the south, it doesn’t matter about the government running to our aid. Everyone in most of the south understands it’s up to us to help ourselves and each other–and we do.

The only savior most of us are waiting on is Jesus. The crowds yelling for the government to come save them from Katrina weren’t the norm.

Nashville flood of 2010 for example: http://www.section303.com/we-are-nashville-4366

And just a heads-up: Very few people I know will give to the Red Cross–we find other organizations that don’t spend a huge chunk of our donations on “administration.”

It couldn’t have mattered less if our senators here HAD voted for the Sandy relief bill–a number of liberals would have tweeted thoughts like this anyway because the left hates the South. They hate a state like Georgia that is 30% black; they love a state like Vermont that is under 1% black. Make your own conclusions.

It’s not a matter of black and white so much as a matter of red and blue. When Sandy hit, it was made very clear that Much of the right hates the northeast. I saw a lot of that hate right here on Twitchy.

Grais I apologize to you for what I said. My frustration at living in the Northeast is due to being under total Democrat control in my state and no hope for any relief for the high taxes and high cost of everything here. I know the suffering that those who have lived through Sandy are still going through. It would be nice if the rest of the country knew that too as the MSM has decided this story isn’t important anymore. Once again, I apologize to you and wish you well with your rebuiliding.

Grais, I didn’t see hatred from this site for the Northeast. I saw righteous anger at the amount of pork that was stuffed in with the relief bill. I saw righteous anger at the turning back of non-union helpers by the unions. I did see some self-righteous people pointing out that others should have been more prepared, as they had had plenty of warning… but no hatred. Most of us feel deep sorrow for the people whose homes were destroyed… many of whom are still waiting for help.

        • grais

Well, you missed it, then. There was plenty. And a lot of us here are very angry over the pork, too. And that story about the non-union electricians being turned away was Bogus…didn’t happen. Yeah, we had plenty of warning, but not quite enough to enable us to move our homes a mile away or 5 feet up in the air. I know that a lot of wonderful folks feel for the people who suffered and are still suffering, and have gone out of their way to help, and still are doing so, and no one cares about anyone’s political affiliation. God has blessed them with concern for their fellow human beings.
But I saw very much hatred coming from the right-at this site and others, because, you know…Obama…& liberals.

          • Catchance

Well, I’m truly sorry for the loss you and your friends and relatives have suffered.

Please pray for the people who can’t stay in their homes, or replace their cars; the people whose jobs no longer exist and the families who have to live apart from one another because whoever can take them in doesn’t have room for all of them. Pray for the people who are in despair and have lost hope that their lives will ever improve; the people who were already struggling before this happened. It’s a sad, sad mess, and it will be for a long time to come.

        WRONG. People hate the pork!
No one minds helping those truly hurt. But the money grab was shameless. If you actually care about those in need, don’t you think its shameful that a relief bill was used to direct money for reasons for unrelated reasons.

      • RichardBlaine

The Northeast liberals hate the right and Southerners, now you’re expecting love from us? Well, while we may detest everything you stand for, we’ll do our Christian duty. You could say “thank you” for the truckloads of relief supplies and the busloads of volunteers our churchs sent North. Not to mention the convoys of utility trucks and workers. You, know… the people you tried to unionize then assulted? I guess that’s one of the things that divide us: we offer you freely given aid (you’re welcome), you prefer to demand more from government coffers and government strings attached (damn you).

        • grais

I expect nothing from you but ignorant bile and lies. And that;s exactly what you delivered.
Not one statement you made applies to me or to anyone I know.

Typical low information voters. The bill was FULL of PORK people. That’s why they voted against it.

And are you defending the pork?

      • windskisong

Nope. She was saying that the libs were being hateful, and that the Non-Government Volunteer and Charitable organizations are already responding and do a better job anyway…

        • JINNASH

Volunteer sector, I agree they do well. And I think if anyone truly cares about natural disaster victims, then they would oppose the pork. There is no excuse for pork period; especially when disaster victims are in need.

The compassionate people, once again. Actually, tornadoes are a way of life, here. As are hurricanes. We cope. Last time my neighborhood (my apartment complex!) was hit by tornadoes, Algore, in campaign mode, came to give a speech. Security bottled up the area and prevented us from getting things done. Allstate came through, though. You can keep your Washington politicians, they’re no help. And there’s nothing Washington hates more than a self-sufficient citizenry.

BTW- the votes were against the pork, not the relief. Dems loaded the bill w/ pork then dared our representatives to vote against it. They dared. Good for them.

    • disqus_LASIg6epmj

      Amen. It was about pork.

    • redheadgrl

Amen, RB. We take care of our neighbors, and help rebuild. Tree fell on my house from a tornado, I had neighbors coming with chainsaws to get it off the roof before I could even call the insurance company. Never once did I think about getting assistance from the federal gov’t or FEMA.

Gone. Truck? Nice woodland pattern camo job, with a four-foot-diameter oak through it. We came through with the clothes on our back and not much else.

Government help? Somewhere from zip to f*ing none. Not so much as a hot meal. We waited months for the insurance people to get the lead out, while salvaging as much as possible (I still had to work, my place of business had been hit too).

Your whining is falling on deaf ears here.

My heat goes out to all those who suffered. I don’t care if the idiots in Congress voted against Sandy relief, they were wrong to do it and just because you voted for or against those dumbbells doesn’t mean you deserve to be left on your own when something like this happens. I volunteer at a local pregnancy center, and every day I am asked by the young women who come in where they can go for help. We keep a list of who provides shelter, clothing, food, medicine, etc. Every single one is a faith-based organization. Every. Single. One. The only thing our taxes pay for that can actually help is WIC and our state’s health insurance for low-income people. And both of those are broke.

I am continually amazed at how utterly stupid, clueless and hateful the left is. I shouldn’t be, but this is an ObamaNation now, and this is how these people think about everything. Not a one of them bothers to inform themselves of WHY the bill was voted down, furthermore, it seems perfectly natural to wish death and destruction on the constituents of any Congressman they disagree with. Then again, these are the same dolts who are bleating “Bush did recess appointments too!” regarding the recent ruling. Never mind those pesky facts….just roll with the spoon fed narrative of the day. Besides that, has there never been any other president prior to Bush?? Not to these people.

Short answer: Since a number of Congresscritters voted “no” on the Sandy relief bill, a lot of Leftists are now claiming the recent tornadoes in the South is proof positive of payback. It’s nothing more than simple proof of how hate-filled the Left generally is. There *are* however, some exceptions to the rule.

Hence why I refrained from donating any money to the myriad of “Sandy relief” causes. Us southerners deal with storms of this magnitude each year, with very little help coming from the oh-so-tolerant NE libs. times like this it should not be the Government to step in and “save the day” it should be the Church. I live in Adairsville and things like this bring a community together , god looked out for us, the tornado missed a daycare and elementary school by less than 1/4 of a mile. Our town was blessed to have not had more deaths.

Just what we need, hard working Americans are now pawns in the never ending game of tit for tat that these over paid, over privileged, government teet sucking back slappers in Congress play at our expense. They go home to a warm bed every night regardless. The really sad part is they don’t even try to hide it anymore, they say it out loud. We really would be better off on our own, this is just one of the reasons why Southerners talk about leaving the union and it’s getting worse. They (the Dems) don’t even understand they are the ones extending the problem in Sandy effected areas, was it a good idea to send home the non union workers that showed up to help?, is any of the pork going to make any ones winter warmer,?, should have let Americans help Americans, that’s what we do.
