At the National Review Institute Summit in Washington, D.C., today, a panel of conservatives addressed the question, “Do demographics doom the Right?” Pundit Michael Barone argued that Republicans aren’t doomed by demographics, necessarily, but they are “challenged” by demographics. Just how big is this challenge? Barone referred to younger Obama voters the GOP needs to attract as the “Lena Dunham” generation.

Hmm, would that be that creepy “first time” ad about voting for Obama being like losing your virginity?

A lot worse? We suppose it could be the “Sandra Fluke” generation. And speaking of Fluke, Barone’s remarks on appealing to younger voters got Talking Points Memo publisher Josh Marshall thinking about birth control and the role it played in the 2012 election.

Yeah, if Republicans hate birth control so much, how is it that married conservative couples don’t all have 12 or 13 kids? How does that work?

Here’s a secret we’re going to let out for today only, just to help Marshall and his followers understand the conservative mind. No one wanted to ban birth control; conservatives were upset that taxpayers were expected to foot the bill for Sanda Fluke’s birth control, which she estimated would cost $3,000.

Really. No one thought that Republicans wanted to deny birth control to people who wanted it? Not even Lizz Winstead, who tweeted that limited access to contraception was a cornerstone of the GOP belief system? Or Chris Matthews, who said an employer who opposed taxpayer-funded contraception was a “birth control Nazi” who “gets to decide who gets it and who doesn’t”? Or Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards, who said in her speech to the Democratic National Convention that Mitt Romney’s plan was to “get rid of Planned Parenthood”? Or President Obama, who told Glamour magazine that “access to contraception” should be a “no-brainer”?

Yes, because we wouldn’t want anyone to be dishonest about conservatives’ actual views on contraception; for example, saying that a hostile GOP was “attacking birth control” by asking Sandra Fluke to buy her own condoms.

“The Lean and Dumb” crowd – what a hoot!

    • mike_in_kosovo

Seems more like “Lame and Dumb Crowd”, to me…

  • CatHerder

Demographics definitely do not doom the Right. In the words of Sir Winston Churchill “If you are not a liberal when young, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative when you are older, you have no brain.”

And yes, I am aware that there is some question as to the accuracy of the quote. However, I feel that that the former PM would have co-opted it if in fact he did not think of it himself.

    • CR

I still say that the very best cure for liberalism is a job (a real one, not walking around on HBO without pants). Of course, there may not be too many of those left by the time Obama gets done.

    • $36103485

Winston Churchill also said there was a “worldwide jewish conspiracy to overthrow civilization.” Regarding the decimation of the American indians and the aboriginal people of australia he said they were undone by “a stronger race, a higher race, a more worldly wise race.” He supported eugenics and the forced sterilization of “inferior races and the feeble minded.” I could go on all night but I’ll end with “The black is indolent and a dreamer, spending his meager wage on frivolity or drink.” Too bad he is dead, he would have made a great tea partier.

      • $36103485

ps Remember when the teapublicans were all over President Obama for sending bust of Churchill back to England? I would prefer to dig up his corpse and shove it up his ass.

Wow, why so angry Mr. lib? Did you see your pay check and realize the pipe dream of socialism? Or maybe you don’t work and realized that those that do are sick of paying for those that don’t? Or maybe, the derangement that is liberalism leaves you with the inability to logically analyze anything, so you are forced to lash out like petulant child, with anger and fear, at anything you don’t like. The only way you can cope with your delusions is to destroy anything that goes against them. So anything you rant and rage and hate on people who have done nothing to you in any way shape or form, it is only that their very existence is anathema to you, and pains you.

Go back to your den, feral child, hide yourself in the basement of which ever friend or relative subsidizes your pitiful fear clouded existence. Use your mind clouding drugs to numb the pain and fill your miniscule mind with garbage that affirms your own delusions, so that you can continue to avoid any stimuli that might challenge you and make you grow from the fungus that you are into logical, reasoning human being.

These people are astoundingly dumb or evilly disingenuous. Pro-life people want MORE birth control used to PREVENT pregnancy. It’s readily available to anyone who will take adult responsibility for their reproductive rights. And pay for it your OWN damn self. Abortion should not Ever be an acceptable method of birth control. Oh, and pay for That your own damn self, too.

I don’t understand how people fall for this lib propaganda. It’s clear to see what republicans, conservatives, etc believe, but they believe the lies. So many people lack common sense.

      • Shelby is a Patriot

As they say, common sense is not so common and those who have it wish that others did, too.

    • CatHerder

“If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.”

In my time there were consequences for unmarried sex. Ostracism. Shame (you were stupidly careless). Unwanted (but nevertheless borne) babies (who were usually put up for adoption, unless the mother decided to brazen it out as a “war widow”).

That is neither here nor there. Today we are asked to provide birth control for those that can’t or won’t exercise self-control, or to pay to exercise it retroactively. I refuse. Show me hard numbers or incest/rape pregnancies. I will be willing to help with those. To those that fall outside my criteria I say, you did the crime.

      • $36103485

Catheter, you are obviously in the Todd Aiken and Richard Murdoch wing of the American Taliban aka Tea Party. Please do all you can to promote those beliefs so we progressives can continue to win elections we have no chance of winning against “normal” republicans.

  • disqus_LASIg6epmj

Conservatives have NO problem with birth control. We just don’t want to pay for it for everyone else. Condoms aren’t that expensive.

    • CR

When you’re screw*ng half the country like liberals are, then I would imagine birth control would become very costly.

      • Jim Denney

If Fluke & Dunham (Ugly & Fugly) are doing a lot of guys we really do have a huge problem with lowered standards in this country.

        • CR

The fact that liberals sleep w/ girls like Fluke & Dunham may explain why many of them push so hard to relax the drug laws… I’d want to be on something too.

    • NRPax

It’s just how things are getting defined these days. “Access” to birth control means “100% paid for by other people” and any opposition to that is viewed as a Bad Thing.

  • fivebyfive

Who would name thier son Lena?

  • traffic_robot

Julia/Sandra Fluke/Lena Dunham generation, all the same. Lean & Dumb is catchier, though.

  • RightThinking1

The depressing thing is, Marshall is regarded as a bright guy. I would say that intellectual honesty was not his strong point, but the Left regard devotion to ideological cant as a greater moral imperative than simple honesty.

  • HindaRifka

Lena Dumass grew up a privileged elitist so it’s amusing to watch her rant about the disenfranchised, the poor, and the down-trodden. This must mean the middle class because I sincerely doubt she ever met any actual poor or homeless people growing up in Tribeca lofts & attending private academies. Yes folks, she’s another Liberal hypocrite who sleeps with anyone and expects us to ensure she doesn’t breed. Hmm, maybe free birth control is not such a bad idea.

  • Christian Heiens

MY generation is an embarrassment to this nation then :(

    • Raye09

If lena dunham is who represents our generation then we are beyond salvation. I am so ashamed.

  • Raye09

This is insulting, nitwits like Lena Dunham do not represent me. Lena is from a wealthy family, nepotism is the reason behind her success. I don’t give a rats ass about what her or any of her peers have to say.

    • $36103485

Wrong. Look at bristol palin to see how people can fail even with the help of nepotism.

      • mike_in_kosovo

And just *which* TV network do her parents own, pray tell?

        • $36103485

Yes, brISDULL would have had a reality show, two appearances on DWTsnoozers and a book deal without her mom. I can’t help it that she failed at everything.

          • mike_in_kosovo

Maybe you should have looked up what nepotism actually means before using the word, you might look less the fool.

          • $36103485

Benefits received regardless of merit. Sums it up well. The only thing brISDULL did successfully was fall backwards drunkenly and have Levi land upon her. Without mom and her “business” after quitting governorship she would have been one of many Assemblies of G-d teenagers with child on assistance from Gov’t. Otherwise, everything she has touched has turned to dust. Her mom passed Alaska tax credit as her last act as governor which directly benefited her show “I tripped Over Life.” Period!

          • mike_in_kosovo

Benefits received regardless of merit. Sums it up well.

Sums up the fact that you *still* don’t know the definition of nepotism, and are either too arrogant or too stupid to look it up?

            Yeah…that about sums it up.

  • Shelby is a Patriot

    Lena Dunham…Lena Dunham…Hmm…
I give up. Who is she?

  • radjahshelduck

Lena Dunham generation? Sandra Fluke generation? So the distinguishing feature of this generation is going to be that the women are physically unappealing?

  • Brett McMicken

    more like degeneratiion

  • Jack Deth

Every generation needs a role model. Even a Dumb Ass generation.

I wonder what street corners Ms.s Dunham and Fluke will be working once their political pimps and affiliates are finished with them?

    • mike_in_kosovo

Speaking of that…. anyone seen Cindy Sheehan around much the last 4 years?

  • KarenKar

Lena Dunham generation–does that refer to androgynous single women who think they are the latest incarnation of Sex in the City? I have never understood what type of man would find this girl attractive.

  • $36103485

Let me see. Would I rather have a daughter like Lena Dunham or Bristol Palin? A talented, free thinking, educated young woman who inspires her generation to question the social paradigm or a uneducated teen mom riding her failing mother’s coat tails?

    • Kat

Hmm, exactly what part of Lena Dunham’s plea to have sexual promiscuity be presented as the highest possible ideal (one that everyone is obligated to pay for, no matter what) is “questioning the social paradigm?”

Demanding free birth control and respect for the “slut pride” lifestyle is questioning NOTHING. It’s accepting the feminist agenda hook, line, and sinker and requires no independent thought whatsoever. Lena Dunham and Sandra Fluke have yet to prove they ever possessed one original thought in their short, privileged lives.

Bristol Palin may also be a child of privilege who made bad choices earlier in her life. But anyone who is willing to defend pro-life principles is far more of a social rebel than Dunham or Fluke will ever be. Fluke can’t even cope with Limbaugh calling her a name, despite the fact that she went before Congress on a mission to destroy the First Amendment to fund the sex lives or irresponsible young women like herself. Dunham gets showered with praise by the glitterati for promoting the same principles. They are doing nothing but regurgitating the PC agenda that they’ve been fed of all their lives.

A true rebel is one who puts any sort of resistance to this agenda, not one who does everything she can to promote it.

  • David Shrock

It is not tough to be accountable for your actions. My wife and I, ages 40 and 43 respectively have chosen to not have any children due to many reasons. It is not that we cannot, it is simply a choice. Buying birth control for $10 to $14 dollars is not a burden, but the point here is being accountable for ones actions. Many people put themselves in positions that are questionable at best, then the floodgates are open to whatever means possible to rectify said situation. The bottom line is accountability for your choices, situations you choose to engage in, aswell as the company you keep.

  • J.N. Ashby

If you don’t mind, I’d rather people my age not be lumped in with that dumb, doughy, painted broad.

  • BeeKaaay

The demographics DO doom the right.

Leftwingwackos will contracept, abort, homosexualize and euthanize themselves out of existence. So what will happen is that they will take over pubic schools (misspelling intentional), colleges, universities, newspapers, news organizations and government to make sure people are indoctrinated into becoming Marxists.

So leftwingwackos reproduce asexually, despite obsessing about sex. And they have been wildly reproducing.
