No, it’s probably not your Twitter client, or your Internet connection, and Twitter isn’t saying if a slowdown for many users is due to Inauguration Day traffic. Twitter support sent out a message this evening acknowledging only that many users are having problems with the service.

In the meantime, rumors that Twitter was shutting down for a week for maintenance were inciting panic as well as self-reflection.

Do you hear that, Twitter support? Please hurry.

Update: Not surprisingly, rumors of a Twitter shutdown quickly sent an #IfTwitterShutDownForAWeek hashtag to the top of the trending topics.

Update: At 1:04 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Twitter’s @Support account announced that the problems had been resolved.
