Gun rights advocates across the nation were encouraged today to visit shooting ranges and gun shows as part of the first-ever Gun Appreciation Day. News quickly spread of three accidental shootings which wounded five people over the course of the day. Three were struck with birdshot when a shotgun went off at the Dixie Gun and Knife Show in Raleigh, N.C. In Indianapolis, Ind., a man shot himself in the hand while reloading a .45 caliber pistol, and another man was wounded in Medina, Ohio, after a round left in a handgun reportedly ricocheted off of the floor. No deaths have been reported.

Supporters of gun control were saddened to hear of the injuries and quickly put aside political differences to send best wishes to those hurt. At least, that’s what we would have written if we hadn’t found these tweets instead. It seems the ones who appreciated guns the most today were the same ones who learned that some shootings can bring laughter rather than sadness, depending on who gets hurt.

News reports indicate that no one was killed and no assault weapons were involved in the accidents. Quite a few observers seemed disappointed in the lack of a body count.

For one day, at least, the anti-gun crowd managed to find an appreciation for firearms. Will their newfound amusement with shootings carry over beyond today?

  • Steve_J

Reading those tweets makes me think Chicago is one long gun show, 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year.

    • Sean Tabor

Yep the only difference is instead of people getting injured there are a lot of tragic deaths.

      • YERMOM182

the level of tragedy remains to be seen

    • lainer51

but no one mentions that EVER

      • Rulz

Can’t; it might hurt Obama’s already sinking approval rating.

    • Michael Wimbish

No. Chicago is a shining example of a gun-free zone. It’s completely safe by comparison.

      • BeeKaaay

Chicago is a conservative free zone (within government buildings) – that’s why things are nuts there.

        • Michael Hampton

You realize that you are doing exactly what this “story” is condemning others for doing right? You are politicizing the deaths of people in Chicago while condemning “liberals” for politicizing the morons who shoot themselves at your “gun appreciation day” parties. You can see that, right?

          • BeeKaaay

I’m condemning the “there is only one way to think” mentality of Chicago. Please read what my words actually say instead of reading what you THINK my words say.

          • tredglx

Nobody is enjoying a guffaw at the daily loss of life in Shitcago like the twits tweeting about the gun shows. Surely you understand that.

          • Obamammy

Salad tossing child molesting liberal says what?

Your either joking or a natural liar!!

        • TexSizzle

Do you not understand sarcasm when you see it? Must be a liberal.

          • lana ward

Sorry about that!! NO I’m NOT a liberal!! I’d rather be dead!!

    • JustLikeAnimals

Perhaps we could arrange a large liberal gathering in Chicago on a holiday weekend and we can once and for all be done with this insanity called liberalism.

    • Just Another Guy

Except in Chicago, no citizen is supposed to have a firearm, whereas there were thousands of people with firearms at these events.

      • JustLikeAnimals

Hehehehe….Yeah, that’s how 535 ppl got shot in Chi-town last year. Because now one is allowed to have a gun. D’oh!!

Note to Rahm: Put the criminals on your email list so they get these messages.

  • AaronHarrisinAlaska

Another way to look at this is as an example of why proper gun safety is important. These weapons, while the possession of which is a constitutional right, are not toys and they ARE dangerous if not handled with care when loaded. It’s also an example of Murphy’s Law. Also, bird shot may not kill you, but that shit hurts. It’s even worse if you were the one pulling the trigger…

Hunting accident back in 03. Deer hunting. Guy was in full camouflage from head to toe. Deer had slipped on the leaves and fallen about fifty feet away from me. We were using driving dogs so I had to make sure it wasn’t one of them. When it got up and I was sure I pointed my shotgun and pulled the trigger. It could have been worse. The gun wasn’t mine and had been loaded with birdshot by mistake before lent to me for the trip. The guy the pellets hit wasn’t wearing any orange so I hadn’t noticed him in the tree line behind the deer.

He later told me what happened. He had ducked behind a tree, only a couple pellets hit him. Two grazed his chin and three others hit his arm. No damage done. But god it felt horrifying. His jacket was thick enough that those that hit his arm only bruised like BBs. He took full blame since he had taken off his orange vest, it was really my fault though for not fully checking my surroundings first. It gave me a much healthier respect for safety.

    • RightThinking1

I agree, these gun show incidents, while not malicious, were not accidents. They were gross negligence on the part of the people involved. If I were king of the world, I would yank their guns until I was satisfied that they had been hyper trained and repeatedly tested in handling safety. Of course, if I was king of the world, everyone that owns a gun would have had that training before they got a gun.

I’ve never been to a show where anything but cleared weapons were allowed. Impossible to police, of course, but them’s always been the rules.

  • lainer51

so ironic that people who “care so much” are happy when others get injured… you suppose they are the “low information voters?”

  • bigdubba

Such caring open minded liberals . How nice that the anti gun ass wipes are so glee full & wish everyone that exercises their 2nd amendment right should all be shot . All 200 million Americans. They hate guns but wish others to be hurt & killed by them . The left , hypocrite much ?

    • JustLikeAnimals

Newflash: liberals are a very confused lot.

      • Michael Hampton

We’re not the ones who are shooting each other while patting each other on the back for buying machine guns.

        • tredglx

Do you even know what you’re talking about? I seriously doubt it looking at your posts.

Machine guns are subject to NFA rules, are VERY expensive to purchase, and VERY hard to obtain due to those NFA rules. They are unavailable to the general gun-buying public, by and large.

        • JustLikeAnimals

Who’s buying a machine gun? Typical libertard, talking out of your ass about something that you know absolutely NOTHING about.

    • Michael Hampton

That is not what is happening here. This is poetic justice. You are saying that responsible gun owners are not a danger and there are five more people who would tell you otherwise.

      • Tom Bannigan

Has it been confirmed yet that these were not intentinal ADs? Most people know that when you take a fire arm in to sell, it has to be unloaded.

      • tredglx

If they were UDs, those injured obviously are not responsible gun owners. If they are intentional UDs, then it becomes a question as to whether those owners have a message to send, or political statement to make.

      • JustLikeAnimals

Poetic justice would be you being shot by some thug carjacking you or while he breaks into your house and rapes your wife. That would be poetic justice. Troll,

  • PennyRobinsonFanClub

I’ll be sure to laugh my arse off the first time someone is injured (or killed) in a head-on collision between 2 “green” automobiles.

Really though, SOS from the leftards, never an original thought in their heads. Many moons ago, I couldn’t even guess which decade, MAD Magazine (which was usually pretty level-headed, politically) did a bit on an NRA family picnic, where of course bodies were racking up quicker than burnt hot dogs. Pure hit job, and even as a kid who had hardly ever seen a gun I didn’t think there was anything very funny about, just snide sneering. As you see above.

Being a liberal means never having to say, “Hey, I just thought of something new!”

  • George Washington Mclintock

Well, gun owners aren’t Liberals. They’ll learn and improve their safety, as opposed to the gloaters, “I’m for abortion and voted for Obama. I’m too smart to have anything bad happen to me ever.” Plus, what would be the bigger folly? Accidental discharge? Or these people reacting to an intruder in their home?

  • Howzah123

    The enemy within

  • Herman LaClair

people attending gun shows have the responsibility to handle said guns in a safe manner. accidents?? no such thing. negligence is more like it. and the situation is ripe for mockery.

  • HARP2

Are they just as amused at all the gun “accidents” every day in Chicago ?

  • GaryTheBrave

George Washington McClintock wrote, “Plus, what would be the bigger folly? Accidental discharge? Or these people reacting to an intruder in their home?”

If these LWNJ ™ were to find an intruder in their home they likely would suffer an accidental discharge themselves.

  • Jack Deth

Where are these morons’ cheers for 500 plus murdered in Chicago over the past year?

    Just askin’.

    • TundraThunder

Chicago’s death toll means nothing to them since it doesn’t further their agenda. They ignore facts.

  • Infidel72

Three NDs, yet not one random mass shooting. As emberrassing as it to for a (very rare) ND to occour at a gun show, it is simply law of averages by virtue of the number of participants. No one seems to think its funny when a few runners die in a marathon, but it does happen due to the sheer number of runners involved.

    • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

Law of averages isn’t really a law, per se… but I get your point. Kinda like, of all the cyclists participating in the Tour de France over the years, law of averages would point to Lance Armstrong being a doper. 😀

  • TundraThunder

Ward Harkavy said: “Only 300 million to go!”

He apparently wants most of the population dead. Arithmetic is hard for him, unless he REALLY wants 300 million dead.

  • Let’em Crash

Entirely Obama’s fault. Gin’n up that fear pushing first time buyers into situations far too fast. Glad the million other who participated today did fine. But Obama’s actions harmed 6 non-Obama voters and that is unforgivable

  • Carolyn Smith

Those of you who think this is funny should be so ashamed of yourselves. Your mindset is about as low as the people who commit violent acts with a gun. No one should be happy at someone elses pain.

    • The Dark Avenger

If the folks in question practiced what they preached about ‘gun safety’, there wouldn’t have been any accidents in the first place.

      • lainer51

only in the perfect world and since 2008, this is “anything” but perfect.

        • The Dark Avenger

Just telling you the facts, folks. Firearms should never be transported loaded from or to a gun show. I realize that you believe that schadenfreude should only be limited to incidents when libruls embarrass themselves, but real life doesn’t work that way.

        • The Dark Avenger

I thought nothing bad would happen with guns as long as they’re in the hands of the ‘right’ people?

          • tredglx

Just like people never die in auto accidents after taking Driver Ed in school.

          • The Dark Avenger

More like people manage not to run each other over when they’re driving around an auto show.

  • $21367552

Oh between your anti-Obama tirades and monitoring Sandra Fluke’s every tweet I’m sure at least some of you have wandered over to the Darwin Awards website and had a little chuckle. Geesh what a dour perpetually offended lot.

Geesh what a dour perpetually offended lot.

      But enough about you libs.

I hate to burst your ugly bubble here but Chicago shootings beat out gun shows this weekend for shootings and they weren’t accidental. Feel better now? 6 shootings 2 dead 4 others wounded

    • Just Another Guy

      And the weekend isn’t over….

  • kssturgis62

When I read Twitchy, I go to these people right away and start asking them questions. I see people saying they hate SUV’s, so do they cheer when one rolls over? I see people saying do they cheer when anyone is murdered in Chicago? ASK THEM. TWEET THEM AND ASK THEM. I am going to. It is time to answer them back.

These are the lowest of the lows in Society, Start making them answer for it. Do they cheer every time a BABY IS ABORTED?

Tweet them and Ask them. Start a New Conversation with them and ask them. You would be surprised at the answer you get. When they cuss or swear, I block them. But if they talk decent, I don’t block, but I never Follow them.

    • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

Just be careful. Liberals are quick the click the ‘Block and report as Spam’ button, if you reply directly to them.

      • kssturgis62

I know KAdams, they can do that. But they answer back, they drag themselves in, they can’t help it, they don’t like being put on the spot, and they have to always remain cool in front of their uneducated mass of friends. I haven’t been blocked yet, and they would have to answer for their crime if they tried.

  • Gun lover

Yeah I can see how they put political differences aside and sent out……sympathy? Wow those liberals are VERY ugly and nasty people. What’s worse is that they think that this is showing compassion….wow sick little people liberals are.

  • ThorOdinson

And this is exaxctly why we need the 2nd Amendment. Can anyone seriously argue that we would never see a tyrannical government in this country when we have a segment of our populace who would GLADLY cheer on the mass murder of their fellow citizens?

Gun appreciation day? Not needed if we appreciate the 2nd Amendment; why dilute our right with such a slap-together 24-hour moment when our Constitution and Bill of Rights does it all?

    • Just Another Guy

We’ve learned some of the tactics of the Left and can now use them against the Left.

Lefties are all about style over substance…for example, they will march for a cure for AIDS but not drop a single dime in the bucket for actual research.

Conservatives do positive things…BUYcotts vs boycotts. Which one makes a difference?

And in this case, having a “Gun Appreciation Day” got people out and using their firearms..but more importantly, making connections with other like-minded people.

To quote the “Face of Bo” : (YANA)

As more citizens become involved, perhaps, just perhaps, we will see a way to keep this country from becoming just another petty dictatorship.

  • WVS

Any left-winger with half a brain–I’ve actually come across one or two in my lifetime–isn’t rejoicing over this. Gun-show-frequenting Americans generally know what they’re doing with firearms in their hands, and for three such accidents to happen in one day is statistically shocking. It means one thing: The number of Americans at gun shows today was tremendous. So go ahead and laugh at five of your countrymen’s injuries. All it really means is that a huge number of your opponents are better armed against your preferred flavor of tyranny than they were 24 hours ago!

    • The Dark Avenger

After getting their gunshot wounds treated, of course.

  • lana ward

Those who don’t believe in guns are pictured in my mind as owning little clown cars

    • WisconsinPatriot

  • Garth Haycock

It would be ironic that those on the left who claim to care about others are laughing at accidents that befall conservatives only if it wasn’t expected. But because the progressives are the most hateful of any political group, nobody is surprised that they take pleasure in the suffering of others.

Piss off, progressives. You are what is wrong with this country.

  • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

Funny… by the logic of the left, all those gun owners should have gone on rampages to all the near by playgrounds and universities. I wonder why THAT didn’t happen? Hmm…

  • WisconsinPatriot

I think some perspective is in order. A LOT more people are participating in gun shows than ever before. Not at all an excuse, just saying. More people means more people who may NOT be as familiar with their guns as the regulars. I think gun show organizers owe it to their exibitors and attendees to provide a safe as possible environment. That being said, these are NOT candy and rainbow shows, attendees need to be aware all the attendees are not firearms instructors. Shootings in the same period of time in Chicago alone were much higher and two people died. How about Detroit? Philadelphia? L.A.??? Icould go on and on. Let the lefties giggle. It shows their ice cold hearts.

  • lillymckim

I don’t think these people know the difference in shooting AT someone and an accidental shooting

    • lainer51

why would they? squirts guns are handled differently than real ones.

  • Just Another Guy

There were A LOT of new gun owners out at the range, still learning which way to point their firearms. I’ve been hit in the chest by a ricochet from a .45 at a range…bounced right off my “manly chest” … or too much starch in the shirt … or really, it hit a deflector and a wall before it came my way.

It happens. That’s why we wear eye protection.

And it is what happens when people end up buying firearms in a panic because the Government is attempting to limit their Right to possess Arms. And then of course they need to know how to use them and go to the range. Sometimes without an experienced friend to help them along.

All considered, that’s still safer than a day in Chicago.

And at least people are learning how to properly use and respect their firearms. People that would never have considered owning a firearm until Obama et al started their anti-gun screed.

As to the shotgun at the gun show…WTF? We had something similar happen one time near me at a gun show and that vendor is permanently barred from every having a booth.

Ed to add: Turns out that the shotgun at the gun show was brought in by an individual to sell. I’m surprised, since in my experience you have to show that the weapon is clear before they let you into the show.

    So it wasn’t a vendor.

  • BeeKaaay

Bloodthirsty leftwingwackos rejoicing that people are getting hurt……no surprise there.

  • Terry

I wonder how many people cut themselves with a knife while preparing or eating a meal yesterday, or a broken glass whilst doing the dishes.

    • Herman LaClair

knives have many purposes besides killing people. killers don’t bring drinking glasses to mass murders. i support the 2nd amendment, but these comparisons don’t make sense.

      • Terry

The news article was laughing at people getting injured, accidentally, at gun shows. I was just pointing out that in perspective, many other people got hurt that day that weren’t at a gun show. [you can look up injury statistics on gov’t web sites or the National Safety Council] And by the way, I don’t accept your premise. The people at the gun shows weren’t there to kill people, and guns have many purposes. (think sports, getting dinner, providing self-defense, holding tyranny at bay etc etc) I agree that knives also have many purposes, including killing, if someone is deranged enough to do it. Does that mean we have to ban steak knives and make every ne try to eat their meals with a plastic spork because there are some evil people in this world? I hope you realize a freak in China stabbed 23 school children during the same week as Sandy Hook. By far, the biggest killer of all is the tool used by the abortionists. I don’t hear the lefties screaming to ban that.

  • almarquardt

Using super-conservative numbers, if two thousand attended say 100 gun shows yesterday, that’s 200,000 people handling firearms. Five injuries accounts for an accident rate of 0.0025%. Accidents with knives is greater than that.

I’m glad no one was seriously injured. As some pointed out, knowing how to safely handle a firearm is essential; we should never, ever assume a firearm is unloaded. Even if someone tells you it’s unloaded — always check. Never put your finger on the trigger until you’re ready to shoot, and always keep the barrel pointed away from others and yourself whether it’s loaded or not.

    Class dismissed.

    • RightThinking1

Darn it…, there you go trying to inject logic and rational thinking again.

UPDATE on Gun Show Discharge: It appears an officer who was in charge of making sure firearms were unloaded before they were allowed into the show is the one who had the Accidental Discharge, hitting a man and a woman.

NOT a shotgun. Though the owner was reckless in allowing the weapon to still have one in the pipe.

SO, more people were injured by the cops at gun shows and shooting ranges this weekend than by anyone else.

    Update at:

  • Tom Bannigan

Do we know yet if any of those accidents were intentional by anti gun advocates?

  • Womak1990

Police Officer accidentally discharges weapon at gun show in Raleigh, NC

UPDATE #2: Contrary to recent stories, the witness in this report is standing by what he stated. It was NOT a shotgun as is now being widely reported and was definitely IN the hands of a law enforcement officer when the rifle in question went off.

At the Dixie Gun and Knife show held at the state fairgrounds in Raleigh, NC, an eyewitness account by Ryan Reynolds reports to me that the incident was actually an accident by a police officer charged with clearing weapons at the entrance to the event. The incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. today and Reynolds states that he was only about 10 feet away when it happened.

Some local media accounts were suggesting that the shot was fired by a customer to the gun show but that appears to be completely untrue.

  • itzyaboi95

I’m not surprised guns went off. I’m also not surprised at the left’s inevitably stupid and hateful reaction to the injuries.
