Gun rights advocates across the nation were encouraged today to visit shooting ranges and gun shows as part of the first-ever Gun Appreciation Day. News quickly spread of three accidental shootings which wounded five people over the course of the day. Three were struck with birdshot when a shotgun went off at the Dixie Gun and Knife Show in Raleigh, N.C. In Indianapolis, Ind., a man shot himself in the hand while reloading a .45 caliber pistol, and another man was wounded in Medina, Ohio, after a round left in a handgun reportedly ricocheted off of the floor. No deaths have been reported.
Supporters of gun control were saddened to hear of the injuries and quickly put aside political differences to send best wishes to those hurt. At least, that’s what we would have written if we hadn’t found these tweets instead. It seems the ones who appreciated guns the most today were the same ones who learned that some shootings can bring laughter rather than sadness, depending on who gets hurt.
They shut down the Dixie gun and knife show at the fairgrounds. Apparently a Sheriff shot himself in the hand. Lol.

News reports indicate that no one was killed and no assault weapons were involved in the accidents. Quite a few observers seemed disappointed in the lack of a body count.

For one day, at least, the anti-gun crowd managed to find an appreciation for firearms. Will their newfound amusement with shootings carry over beyond today?
