The Weekly Standard’s Mark Hemingway earlier today called out PolitiFact on its “lie of the year,” Mitt Romney’s ad claiming that bailout recipient Jeep was considering moving production to China.

As Hemingway writes, “The ad … never said that Jeep was moving U.S. jobs to China, let alone its entire operations to China. All the ad says, and this is correct, is that the Obama administration played a hand in selling Chrysler to ‘Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China.'” PolitiFact responded to the Weekly Standard by arguing, “The Romney campaign was crafty with its word choice, so campaign aides could claim to be speaking the literal truth, but the ad left a false impression that all Jeep production was being moved to China.”

The Daily Caller’s Jim Treacher wasn’t buying PolitiFact’s explanation.

True.

PolitiFact awards ‘Lie of the Year’ to truthful Romney ad

So, the MFM is castigating Lance Armstrong for lying; but when Obama lies about gun background checks, Biden lies about hearing the gunshots of a school massacre, Hillary lies about landing under sniper fire, and Bill Clinton lies about … well, everything… they are held up as noble and outstanding public servants?

It’s practically Biblical.”Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20). It does begin to feel like we are approaching a time of judgment.

It’s like the football player with the fake girlfriend. Obama had a fake girlfriend first, but that wasn’t important.

The leftist is not concerned with truth as we understand it. Rather, they embrace a concept called “the revolutionary truth,” which rarely has anything to do with the real truth. The revolutionary truth is whatever you need to say in order to advance your revolutionary cause.

It is usually rather far from the truth as we understand it, as the dictionary defines it.

The leftist can shamelessly lie to you and believe that lie, because he has a different definition of the concept of “truth” from regular people.

Just like the vast majority of the media-government-academic-entertainment axis, Politifact is not in the truth business. It is in the revolutionary truth business.

      • Ronald

I’ve never heard of revolutionary truth. Gotta Google that one I guess.

Sarah Palin’s death panels, Tim Geithner made a “mistake” calculating his taxes, I won’t raise the debt ceiling (Obama 2006), The President and I support the 2nd amendment (Biden), “kids” are off limits (unless it works to my advantage)

    • michael s

Why are you defending lance Armstrong? HE ADMITTED HIS DISHONESTY.

      • V the K

Not defending him. Question is why leftists don’t care when their political leaders lie to them serially about important things. But that’s not really a question, is it?

      • lainer51

        what are you yelling about?

      • spidermans_mommy

I just don’t understand why Lance Armstrong, an ATHLETE, is held to a higher standard than Barack Obama, the president (can’t capitalize it, sorry) of the United States.

    • Catchance

Exactly! Isaiah wrote those words from God nearly 2300 years ago to a rebellious Judah. They didn’t listen then, they’re not listening now, and there will be “woe unto them” who say abortion, homosexuality, Mother Earth, and multiculturalism are good.

      • el_polacko

abortion is the killing of a growing human and, therefore, a bad practice but.. good grief ! .. the entirety of planet earth and all of its various peoples, including the folks who happen to be gay and love each other are all “evil” in your view ?!? that’s just nuts.

        • Catchance

I didn’t say they were evil… I said they were calling evil good. God calls homosexuality an abomination (ie, evil). He, however, loves the people themselves, but hates the sin.

  • AaronHarrisinAlaska

When I read PFs lie of the year I had to laugh. Shirt version of their article: “it’s a lie based upon what we thought how things were said, but not on what was actually said.” I mean, ha, they openly admitted to intentionally taking what the ad said out of context.

Right there. I’m waiting to see though if they rate that one as “true” and then give some lame ass reason as to why. “During his first term President Obama claimed that taxes would not go up ‘one single cent.’ Taxes increased well above a single cent. Due to the way this claim was worded we can conclude this to be a literal monetary cent. We here at politifarce rate this statement as true”

      • GaryTheBrave

Well, that’s true. You see the value of money decreased by 40% during O’s 1st term, but taxes went up by 25%. So you see, the tax burden has actually been reduced by 15%. /sarc

      • Ken Alan Draper

did he lie? It didn’t go up “One single cent”, it went up several thousand cents or several million cents depending on your financial situation.

    • V the K

Lie of the Year should have been Susan Rice on “Meet the Press”: “What happened in Benghazi was in fact initially a spontaneous reaction to what had just transpired hours before in Cairo, almost a copycat of– of the demonstrations against our facility in Cairo, which were prompted, of course, by the video.” That was not just a lie, it was lie about people dying.

      • J.N. Ashby

I’m gonna stick with my 2% SS tax increase lie.

  • Purple State

Employees of plants in OH believed the ad, and called their bosses asking if they’d been laid off. That’s all the proof you need that the ad was a lie.

    • AaronHarrisinAlaska

      Except the ad wasn’t :/

    • John (it true me am)

      That’s called people being stupid…

    • Teresa Davis McCormick

so you are saying that all those people saw the Romney ad and still thought they were going to be laid off? Maybe those people didn’t even see the ad, more likely they were hearing people like you tell them what the ad said and didn’t bother to check the truth. That’s how propaganda works. Aren’t you proud to be a liar?

      • Purple State

        Personal attacks aren’t necessary.

What I’m saying is read the article. I don’t live in OH or know anyone who works at Chrysler there, so I wasn’t telling anyone anything. “Bruce Baumhower, the president of the United Auto Workers local that oversees the major Jeep plant here, said Mr. Romney’s initial comments on moving production to China drew a rash of calls from members concerned about their jobs.”

“Mr. Romney’s initial comments” being the important part. The workers weren’t worried about their jobs because of people like me. They were worried about their jobs because of Romney. Probably by design.

        • Catchance

I believe you inadvertently gave the truth when you mention that the president of the UAW told the workers that Mr. Romney’s “initial comments on moving production to China” drew a rash of calls. Those members didn’t actually LISTEN to what Mr. Romney said… they only heard what the UAW boss told them.

        • AaronHarrisinAlaska

Except Romney didn’t say that. Their boss told them he did.

        • Teresa Davis McCormick

Oh so you’re not a liar? You’re just dumb like the rest of the people who gleaned info from the ad that wasn’t there. Personal attacks? Just giving what I get, sir.

    • V the K

So… because a Democrat Union Tool claimed that the dumb people he represents misinterpreted what they saw in an ad, that makes Romney a liar.

Yeah, that sounds like a normal liberal standard.

  • Joel A. Edge

I think we all remember the Boeing to South Carolina flap. Why nothing from our fearless unions on this? You would think hostility to work in the US would be trumped by work being moved out of the states. No outrage, fellows?

    • jgeorgia2000

Boeing didn’t want to move anything in Washington to sc they just wanted to build an additional (new) plant in sc. Big difference. Jeep is building a new plant in china, but will be building the same line that was build here- the patriot model ( too ironic with the name though)!

      • Guest

I don’t believe I said anything about moving work in the Boeing flap.

    • jgeorgia2000

But you are right about the unions not worried or mad about the new jobs that are now in china not Detroit!

      • lainer51

Actually Bummer gave Chrysler to Fiat. They ended up paying next to nothing for it.
Chrysler should have sold of Jeep as a separate company but CAFE prevents that by adding ridiculous mpg standards. The Jeep brand, RAM trucks, and the muscle cars are the only good products that come out of that company.

The “Lie of the Year” is, at worst, the “Vaguery of the Year.” Perhaps it was vague in an attempt to get people to believe that all Jeep jobs were going to China, but it never said it explicitly. Someone, won’t name names, said EXPLICITLY “Taxes on the middle-class and the poor will not increase.” Problem is a raise in the Social Security tax is ONLY on the middle class and poor, since there is an upper threshold on it (some 100k to 120k or so). Hence, LIE.

Jim Treacher is a drunken hack blogger who believes that he can get more than 20 people to hang on his every word like he is an authority on any subject. He’s spent more time defending his idiocy than he has proving or disproving anything. He overstepped and got called out on this and will continue to cry foul and name-call until he gets his gullible followers to believe he ‘outed’ PolitiFact.

It pays to actually research and know the facts before you speak. No American jobs have been outsourced to China and the factories are still open. They are building 100,000 cars in China for the Chinese market. Problem is, he got a whole lot of people to bite on his tripe. What an imbecile. And shame on Twitchy for getting sucked in to Treacher’s blathering.

BreakingNews @politifact ‘Lie of the Year’ for 2013 is @politifact

  • http://twitter.com/hamybear Michael Hampton

Insulting them over and over again doesn’t change the fact that Romney’s campaign repeatedly tried to make it sound like they were moving jobs overseas. That was the whole point of mentioning it. Because saying that the auto maker is thriving so much that they are expanding into China didn’t really fit with their whole “Obama is moving jobs overseas” platform.

    • AaronHarrisinAlaska

They didn’t make it “sound” like they did. They actually did, and they were doing it during a time when those jobs were needed here. If the times had been booming, that’d be one thing.

  • JamesMc

Huh, I dissected a Politifact lie the other day on Breitbart. A fairly moderate, non-foaming-at-the-mouth, progressive was trying to claim that Romney lied about Obama failing to pass a budget and supported his argument with this Politifact article.

    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/apr/06/mitt-romney/romney-says-obama-failed-pass-budget/

It’s actually somewhat fascinating watching how the writer uses pretzel logic to claim Romney was “mostly false” after pointing out that what Romney said was “technically accurate.”

    • AaronHarrisinAlaska

They do it all the time. They tend to rate their articles based upon what they perceive is the intent of the statement, not the statement itself. It’s why I no longer use and disregard links to them in debates. Perfect example is this very article. They claimed the intent of the ad was to mislead people into thinking the jobs were being sold and moved to china, even though the add never said that. As far as politifarce writers were concerned it didn’t need to. All the did was take the words “jobs” and “china” and then filled in between what ever they wanted you to think.

      • JamesMc

I agree, interpreting a statement by its intent in the way politifact does is a strawman argument. I pointed out to the lefty that their objections to Romney’s statement were Obama’s defense to not passing a budget. And, that the expectation that Romney would use Obama’s “blame the Republicans” defense when running against Obama was a complete farce and had no bearing on the legitimacy of Romney’s statement. What Romney said was true, not “mostly false”, and politifact was incredibly biased to argue otherwise based on what they thought Romney intended.

  • Frustrated Teacher

ANOTHER exposure of the “Lying Liars of the Left” (LLL). It seems to happen a LOT lately, but gets no play in the media. Hmmmm…wonder why THAT is? Of course, anyone who trusted Politifact in the first place had to be a LLL to begin with.
