A visibly frustrated President Obama addressed the press briefly tonight after meeting with the leaders of the House and Senate in fiscal cliff talks. Obama called it “mind boggling” that legislators hadn’t been able to conclude a deal to avert the fiscal cliff, noting that “ordinary folks, they do their job. They meet deadlines.”

Plenty of ordinary folks were watching and decided to take advantage of the spotlight the president cast on them to share some other things ordinary folks do and don’t do.

You people!

ordinary folks can’t give themselves raises.

    I’m a community organizer… NAH!

  • FFlintstone

Obama really has no leg to stand on when it comes to criticizing people for not meeting deadlines. The Democrat controlled Senate hasn’t met the “deadline” for passing a budget in years even though they’re legally required to do so. Why has Obama publically criticized the Senate for not meeting the budget deadline? He has no credibility on the deadline issue.

    • carla5731

He has no credibility on any issue. His only “talent” is pontificating.

      • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

Carla, You misunderestimate the Preezy. He’s excellent at condescending too!

    • Zanshi

The Senate is controlled by Democrats. Party before principle is the politicians’ motto.

  • DrSamHerman

“Ordinary folks” have faced four years of the worst fiscal cliff (named “Obama”) and have to face yet another four years.

    • Garth Haycock

And those four years will be worse than the last four years, which is, of course, what a Marxist like Obama wants.

  • Insubordinate

    Obviously, Obama considers himself extraordinary.

    • Garth Haycock

He is extraordinary. He’s extraordinarily incompetent and arrogant.

  • http://twitter.com/MoueLaMoue Moue La Moue (D)

Tell us, Mr. President, what is this wondrous, fantastical thing called, “vacation”? I’m one of your “ordinary folks” but am struggling to meet the demands YOU and the SENATE have placed on me, so this magical thing you call a vacation is foreign and unknown to me. Is it really as special as you’ve made it out to be? Just wonderin’, since I work for a living, and have to meet deadlines and all. /sarc.

  • GTFOBigGovt

Ordinary folks in Obamaworld do NOT meet deadlines, do jobs or even have any awareness of there being a deadline. Unless it’s to replenish the food stamps, get the direct Obamabucks deposit and add minutes to the Obamaphone.

I clearly remember at least 35 people in my corporate office who got sham mortgages before the collapse and never even bothered to do the refi in time before the balloon or big jump in interest rate and …yep FORECLOSED. Along with all the other “ordinary folks” who never should have had those overvalued houses & mortgages while they gouged out the meager fake equity they had asap.

Here’s a deadline, Obama: I want my house value to go back above 2000 prices this year, ‘kay?

  • freeinaz

Elitist mentality flourishes in Washington D.C. Instead of saying ordinary folks why not just say what you really mean; “peasants”

  • Steve_J

The money Obama is spending on his vaction is provided by taxes paid for by 0rdinary folks.

  • Steve_J

Ordinary folks are losing their lives in Afghanistan because of Obama’s feckless foreign policy.

  • JackBlair

Ordinary folks can’t usually give themselves raises.

  • gracepmc

A lot of ordinary folks no longer have jobs.

  • Steve_J

Obama and his buds get first class medical care. Ordinary people get a little blue pill.

  • Steve_J

Obama’s been to 57 states. Ordinary people have only been to 50.

  • lainer51

the most condescending, patronizing, arrogant, disrespectful, offensive, impudent, degrading description of the american people ever to be spewed!!

    • Garth Haycock

Yet those adjectives describe Obama perfectly.

  • nc

Ordinary folks work hard (if they’re lucky enough to have a job), stay out of trouble, help their neighbor, and generally try to do the right thing. If they happen to be conservative they are mocked, called “extreme” or “racist” and told their taxes aren’t high enough.

    It’s not easy being ordinary.

  • RightThinking1

Ordinary folks do not take $4 million vacations, and particularly not on other peoples money.

  • KansasGirl

Ordinary folk put O to shame.

  • Conrad2010

To bad ordinary folks have yet to impeach this destroyer of the United States out of office. Oh wait. He was just reelected. Never mind!

  • MoxieLouise

Ordinary folks realize they’re being bent over by a bunch of sociopathic “politicians” who care nothing about our future, only their own.

  • Barb

Our president is the only “Ordinary” person living in America! Ordinary: can’t speak without a speechwriter and teleprompter; can’t manage his congressional team; can’t understand nor solve simple math concepts; and makes executive decisions based on increasing his own popularity! Harvard grad? Hmmm

  • Trudy Hill

HAH! He can’t even figure out a budget.

  • Turning Leaves

The President is channeling his inner Vanessa Redgrave as Guenevere.

This reminds me of the “shack” Marie Antoinette had her peons build on the grounds of Versailles. She wanted to “pretend” like she was “ordinary folk” whenever she was bored and the mood struck her. I believe she had a cow she pretended to milk, a few chickens so she could gather pretend eggs, a pretend garden, etc. This went over like a lead balloon with the real ordinary folks. It was shortly thereafter she lost her head.

  • http://navalwarfare.blogspot.com/ Libertyship46

Obama needs to remember that those were “ordinary folks,” too, that stood at Lexington and Concord. And they will do it again, if pushed too hard.

  • Gothguy

Ordinary folks don’t take a vacation when there is a crisis at home. Ordinary folks know how to balance their check books. Ordinary folks do not raise their ‘debt ceiling’ at home to meet their financial obligations. Ordinary folks do not point their finger at others and blame them for their personal failings, year after year after year.

    • MoxieLouise

Well, some do, but they end up in jail or dead.

  • john1gun

How would he know what ordinary folks do?

  • C_W_W

When he says “Ordinary Folks” he means The Peasants.

  • C_W_W

Obama: “Ordinarily, folks around me do what they’re told” “They do everything I want” “They don’t speak back, they act”!

  • redheadgrl

Everyone in DC is so distanced from the average “ordinary folks” in America. They have no clue what the average American is struggling with outside the beltway.

  • $30423294

Ordinary folk put one sentence after another in a determinate structure in order to develop and convey a coherent argument. Without a teleprompter. And they don’t punctuate with “uh”, “er”, and “ah”.

That’s what we ordinary folk do.

  • DoobieNC

When has he ever been around “ordinary folks” long enough to have any knowledge about what they do?

  • http://twitter.com/cardinalmom72 Kristin H

What the heck would he know about ordinary? He hasn’t worked an ordinary day in his life!

    • mickeyco

He hasn’t worked a day in his life, period.

I guess ordinary folk include those who don’t take 4 million dollar taxpayer funded vacations to Hawaii?

  • BeeKaaay

“Ordinary folks” don’t give money that other people have, to cronies simply because they ask.

  • Tom Bannigan

Wait, we didn’t build that or we did? Which is it O?
