The airport screeners of the Transportation Security Agency today overwhelmingly voted to ratify their first-ever collective bargaining agreement.

The Newark Star-Ledger reports that TSA administrator John Pistole in 2010 modified a Bush-era restriction on collective bargaining, choosing to allow screeners to negotiate on matters that did not involve pay or that might compromise security. Today’s vote resulted in a new performance management system, more flexibility in uniform variations and more opportunity to move between full- and part-time employment.

Many were outraged to learn that one of the TSA’s victories was an annual uniform allowance larger than that allowed to Marines over their lifetimes.
