As Twitchy reported in September, the Obama administration made moves to encourage defense contractors to delay layoff announcements until after the election, offering to reimburse contractors for any legal costs incurred in not informing their affected employees. Lockheed Martin seemingly took the offer, and today, Boeing announced it would be cutting 30 percent of management positions.

CNBC reports:

Boeing announced a major restructuring of its defense division on Wednesday that will cut 30 percent of management jobs from 2010 levels, close facilities in California and consolidate several business units to cut costs.

Boeing, the Pentagon’s second-largest supplier, said the changes were the latest step in an affordability drive that has already reduced the company’s costs by $2.2 billion since 2010, according to the memo. The company told employees about the changes on Wednesday, in a memo obtained by Reuters and confirmed by Boeing.

Boeing said the changes were not a response to the threat of additional, across-the-board U.S. budget cuts due to take effect on Jan. 2, or the outcome of U.S. elections, but represented another step in its continuing drive to “be more competitive while investing in technologies and people.”

Could be 10 of thousands of them where Boeing is concerned. Nice job libs, hope that unemployment holds out for you when no one is working to pay into it.

In close to the same boat. Have a son in his third year of college taking 12-14 hours a semester so that he can work and not acquire debt. Getting his AA this December then continuing on to an CS degree with an English minor. There is a great program here with internships available so he should graduate by May 2015. If necessary he can work on a Master’s if he doesn’t find a job quickly. The younger son is also a junior in high school, since he doesn’t know what degree he wishes to pursue I have talked him into doing his general studies here at local college. The goal being to keep them out of debt and acquiring skills so they can be ready when opportunity knocks.

These young college kids are clueless…even my son who didn’t vote for Romney. They don’t realize how serious this unemployment situation is, it is not enough graduating with multiple degrees. If you can’t get a job the one who paid for a degree is worst off…cause you’re in debt.

They may be, but it’s cold comfort that they get what they asked for when I get what they asked for, too. This isn’t what I wanted at all. I’m wondering what’s going to happen when inflation hits. I already have problems with my van that I can’t afford to fix that causes me to get 12.5 mpg (needless to say, I try not to go anywhere). If you’re a Hollyweird, academic or political liberal, or are simply richer than God, this won’t effect you much. But if you’re comfortably middle class or barely making ends meet, you’re in trouble.

While we’re all trying to figure out how we’re going to feed our families and keep them warm for the winter, the proggies can press on for that oligarchy they’re dying to head.

I just want to thank politicians, Hollyweird, academia and the MSM for making sure Americans are completely ignorant of history, uneducated, unable to use reason and logic, unable (or unwilling) to research anything beyond their preferred liberally biased website and unwilling to get up and bust their butts to make an honest wage, even if it isn’t as much as a person would like to make. We owe all our future misery to you.

That’s why I’m moving to Canada. The economy is way better and the people aren’t full of hate. Hopefully this will lead to Texas’ secession. Then pack up yer stuff and head to Texas! • Hiraghm

I assume you’re talking about the Obama supporters. Their guy won, and they’re still full of hate. Not just hate, but bigotry and ignorant prejudice against Republicans, conservatives and white people (which is amazing, when many of them *are* white… )

If we can oust Fallon in the next election for a real conservative, OK may just beat Texas to secession. For the 2nd Presidential election in a row, every county is red.

In my opinion the election was bought. The machine paid off certain poll captains in certain states. O knew he had it in the bag which is why he didn’t care. I just pray that something comes up and O decides to resign before another flubbed swearing in. Nothing feels right about this election.

It’s funny you should say that because I’ve been thinking very seriously about moving to Texas. Now, if only I could get the DH to go along with it. Canada faces many of the same problems we do, or will be facing, especially with healthcare coming down the pike.

And I’m sorry to break it to you, Foggy, but people are people, no matter where you go. Man has an inherent nature, so no matter where you go, there you are. But best of luck to you in Canada. I wish you well.

          • Lord Foggybottom

Canada elected a conservative government, which is why it’s shrinking and is now the #5 freest economy in the world – while ours is #18 (for now, anyway). More importantly: their healthcare system is set up for the amount of citizens in the country. There’s no way our current shortage of doctors is going to be able to handle another 40 million freeloaders. Especially after most of the doctors quit. Liberals say they love science, but they sure don’t understand math.

          • http://twitter.com/mandita74 GreenEyedGal

Best of luck to you! Stay warm, brrrr. I could NEVER convince the DH to move someplace colder, even if the economy is better.

I’ve noticed that about Liberals too. I always wondered why they’re so gung ho for evolution and “survival of the fittest” being taught in school when they do everything in their power to make sure no one ever evolves from a welfare dependent to a successful independent provider. Outside of the classroom, they promote survival of the least fit and try to kill off the most able. It’s a disgusting shame.

          • ked5

they don’t understand science either. how many of them love darwin, but scream if anything is threatened by change?

          • Mike

not quite..Canada’s healthcare is a mess. Hospitals close
in Oct/nov..when they run out of money. 6 million are waiting to be
assigned a doctor. When someone dies a lottery takes place to
assign a waiting person to the doctor as the slot opened up due
to the death. Or if someone moves on…drops out of the system
the same thing occurs. All are entitled to healthcare but not all
Canadians get it. Shortage of money and doctors is part of the system.

          • torpedoman2002

We need more conservatives to offset the flood of liberals leaving California and moving here. This is how stupid liberals are. They destroy their state with liberal politics and move out because they cannot afford anything. They move to a new state and vote for the same policies. Idiots!

          • http://amandakmelson.wordpress.com/ GreenEyedGal

It’s no mistake that liberals move in, take over, destroy and move on. Look at the election map with red/blue breakdown by county. You’ll notice, most of the blue is on the very edges and right in the middle of the country. They do it on purpose to spread their ideology. When you can take a prosperous, successful city/county and destroy it from the inside out, you don’t stick around to share the misery. You move on and do it again. I believe the main reason it works is because once you make it so it’s impossible to survive without begging from Uncle Sam, he owns you. You become demoralized. Your way of thinking changes: working hard doesn’t pay, obviously, or the prosperity wouldn’t have disappeared, or you’d be able to work your way out of this deep, dark hole. What everyone seems to forget is that it’s the progressive policies that got them in this mess. And of course, the fact that public schools no longer teach leads to a very ignorant, easily controllable electorate. It’s spreading like a cancer and I maintain it is being done purposely.

          • http://twitter.com/pilarona Pili Riaza

True, they destroyed academia, infiltrated the church ( every denomination) and proceeded to destroy entire cities and states.

    • kbielefe

From both sides. As firmly as you believe the layoffs are a result of Obama’s policies, progressives believe they prove the need for Obama’s policies, to put a “boot on the neck” of corporations who don’t care how many “little guys” they have to punish to try to make Obama look bad.

Read the comments on other sites reporting the same story. The layoffs are a result of the right’s “economic darwinism.” It doesn’t matter that Obama is actually in power and doing nothing about it, all they care is that he cares. If he can’t actually prevent the layoffs it’s because of Republican obstructionism or the policies put into place by Bush. It doesn’t cross their mind that Obama had four full years to change those policies and didn’t. All that matters is Obama saying he is trying. This is how they think.

      • James Patrick

        Denny

I hesitate to even call it thinking. So much of what the progs do is emotion based. We look at the same data and we see cause and effect, they see intent and a non-compliant reality that has to be blamed on someone they think did not care correctly. That is why I think we will never convince the vast majority of them with mere truth and logic.

        • dennylee60

          James and kbielefe,
I mostly agree with what you guys are saying. However, I do hope that when we point out the reason for the layoff is due to the gutting of the military I would hope they would see the light. As for “economic darwinism” in some sense that is correct but the difficulty and pressure is coming from the government in the form of higher taxes and regulation, again, I would hope (maybe misplaced hope), that they would see the light.

    • ked5

I had that a couple years ago – someone whining about how hard their life was. they shut up as soon as I asked them how the hope and change was working for them.

    • nevets

Actually Boeing made some concessions with the unions and the feds to keep the SC plant open. GO SC…. but you know the first 787 that fails or has issues the unions and the MSM are going to try to link it some how to the non-union SC folks.

And we’re still pissed off at unions here. That’s a dirty work in the Upstate of SC.

Certainly this news will lead to a rally on Wall Street tomorrow!

  • Rod M

The fact that Boeing has no shame in doing this the day after the election shows the evil marriage of Dems and Big Corporations. And the plantation fools believe all they say.

    • The_Original

Unfortunately, Boeing became a different business when they moved their headquarters to Chicago.

  • RogueRose

They don’t care about those dying unions… they care about the millions of new union workers when they unionize healthcare workers. Oh what? No one said that was in 0bamacare?? Funny how that wasn’t mentioned…

    • ked5

and trumpka was gloating about how card check will go national.

    • DrSamHerman

Most of the public systems are already unionized, and so are a lot of private health systems. It’s nothing new to them.

The union idiots can be supporting Obamacare all the way, because they have waivers granted by Sebelius right after the bill was passed.

Unions won’t be gaining much new membership because all of them will be laid off and not paying dues.

HA HA HA!! THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT THOSE DUMBASS LIBERALS GET!! HA HA HA!!

Its sweet to say I told you so, we tried to change this sad outcome but ignorant racist self righteous liberals kept Obama based entirely on race, nothing else.

And guess what libs, its going to get worse, much much worse. So enjoy the bed you’ve made for yourselves.

California just raised the sales and federal income tax, Dow crashed and now significant unemployment. But don’t worry, Cher, Michael Moore, Bloomberg, Sean Penn, Eva Longoria, Roseanne, Huffington, Behar, Mahr, Buffet and every last liberal leader you put back in office will be absolutely fine.

I wonder if Cher will share her $600 million with the saintly liberal base? Yea hold your breath and let’s find out.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !! AND IT WILL GET FAR WORSE. WE WARNED YOU AND YOU DECIDED BY HATE, HYPOCRISY, VIOLENCE, THREATS AND RACISM. ENJOY THE COLLAPSE, YOU’VE EARNED IT!!

This announcement made my day. I was crushed after the SCOTUS ruling on Obamacare – because I still loved my country. Now? I’m going to enjoy watching it burn to the ground. You get what you pay for. :)

          • Lord Foggybottom

America IS rising again. This time as a socialist state. Obamacare is the undoing. You’re not going to get people to vote for the dismantling of it. America as we know it is dead. The sooner you realize this the better off you’ll be.

What’s to be patriotic about? Both parties have let us down. Get us back to a Constitutional Republic and I’ll be patriotic. Until then, meh. Socialism is nothing to be patriotic about. Time for a fresh start.

Laugh on tomtom1983, but it’s not just “THOSE DUMBASS LIBERALS” who are going to get it. Unless you’re richer than God or one of the elite, you’re going to get it too. So am I. I understand the anger and the attitude that they’ll get what’s coming to them. But I take no joy in it. Because of their decision, we’ll all get what’s coming to them. That’s nothing to celebrate.

      • Liberal Hater

well we do… however, I do believe Obamacare covers lube for our assholes before fucking, so we got that for us.

This is just the beginning: Those of us who work for the Defense Dept. From the biggest to the smallest (ie; Housing) is getting the AX. Housing is being Contracted out to a hotel chain. HOLIDAY EXPRESS (guess who they backed) and those of us who work on bases with very old buildings (ie; Open Bay Barricks turned into small private rooms, with shared bathrooms) are losing our jobs because this hotel chain don’t want to build a nice hotel for the Military. No bodies job is safe.

Wasn’t the possibility of this sort of action being talked about for a few weeks prior to the election, not about Boeing specifically but about Defense contractors in general? It shouldn’t be a surprise and I suspect it will be happening to more defense contractor employees.

Those that were informed knew this was coming. But, those that were laid off know that they will get free phones, lots of unemployment, since it’s based on latest employment figures, even management will be Ok. Money continues to be printed. Unethical that they agreed not to issue pink slips until after election, the Christian that made the film was sented to jail for one year today,, they waited until after election as well.

This sequestration shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone since it’s been in the news, especially for those being affected…even though Obama lied in the debate and said it wasn’t going to happen even though it was WH idea…the people being affected should have known Obama was lying as usual. They should have prepared and look for another job. NO??

Obama couldn’t care less about all the people being laid off due to this sequestration, I mean he didn’t care to send any help to the two navy seals screaming for help…he only cares about his agenda…that is to have a declining America to the point it will never again become a world super power. I think he is doing an amazing job and have accomplished much more than any other president in history.

We aren’t increasing the defense budget 2 trillion like Romney proposed, Boeing’s market just shrank Thems the breaks, make something more useful. Call it the “free market adjusting”

    BUT.. JOBS!!…Please…soul searching…do it.

    • RightThinking1

EEK. You seem to have missed the point. The administration took specific steps to see that the layoff notices would be delayed until AFTER the election…, and furthermore, provided assurances that IF there penalties associated with violation of the WARN Act, then the contracting agencies, i.e., the taxpayers, would absorb those costs. But do not take my word for it. Here is the underlying document:

      http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/memoranda/2012/m-12-19.pdf

      • EEKman

Its not a conspiracy by Obama to make him look good until after the election if that is what you are implying. Its allowing flexibility with the WARN requirements to reduce risks caused by election uncertainty.. The sequestration cuts are scheduled to go into effect Jan 2nd, 2013, that means in order to comply with the requirements, layoff notices would have to go out by 11/2/12, however on 11/2 it was not clear who was going to win the election, and thus it was not clear if the sequestration cuts were even going to happen.

        • RightThinking1

I certainly do not think that it is a conspiracy. On the contrary, I think it is a blatent, calculated, political move at taxpayer expense.

Boeing (and others) signaled that layoffs were in the offing, whether as a consequence of sequestration, or not. To the extent that it *might* be a consequence of sequestration, the Administration took action to avoid such layoffs until some time after the election, and did so by offering to pick up the tab for legal liabilities, and their cost, using taxpayer dollars.

I believe that you have read the referenced document. Nowhere in the document is it suggested that any company will be exempted from liability consequent to WARN Act obligations. It forthrightly states that IF a company incurs liability, the Feds will pick up the tab.

If you buy into the stated (and unprecedented) pupose of avoiding the expense of unecessary layoff notices, well, so be it.

It is highly unlikely any state in this union will be allowed by the federal government to leave the family without military action to stop any rebellion. Remember what the Soviet Union did to countries trying to remove themselves from tyranny. Besides, any states that succeeded would be open to invasion from other countries, especially Mexico which might see it as an opportunity to reclaim property. Canada is socialistic also. South America might be a better choice. Americans who left the country in 2008 say they aren’t returning, as they have found a really good economic deal in other countries. However, since the USA is actually the last hope for true freedom and liberty, it’s highly unlikely that there is another continent on which to find refuge from tyranny. All doors to freedom have been shut tight. The experiment is basically over and done. Our founders are rolling in their graves. But its what the citizens want. They want someone to take care of them just like babies need to be cared for. Let them have what they want. At the end of four years, the progress will be assessed.
