The New York Times’ Nicholas Kristof wasn’t the only one deeply troubled by Mitt Romney’s calling out of The One and his miraculous-yet-undemonstrated power to slow the alleged rise of the oceans. MSNBC’s “fact-checkers” will deny tomorrow that an overheated Chris Matthews called Mitt Romney a “pig” over the remark, but that’s pretty much what he did.

Matthews, venting his rage with the help of Howard Fineman, quickly gave himself an out — Romney’s not a pig, of course, but that’s what he would have called people like him back in the ’60s for talking like that.
