A major situation unfolded in Santa Cruz, Calif., earlier tonight as a shooter appears to have shot several police officers and fired a large number of rounds. It has been confirmed that two police officers, as well as the suspect, were killed.

Details still seem sketchy, but here’s how it unfolded, starting around 4:08 p.m. Pacific. These reports are mostly in chronological order, all tweeted or retweeted by the Santa Cruz Sentinel.

And here start the copycats……. Welcome to #California

They should pass some really restrictive gun laws out there. Criminals hate being thwarted by gun laws.

      you are kidding right?

        Most definitely.

I was thinking the same – as a resident of CA, I know it’s illegal for anyone to have a gun in public (unless you have a concealed carry permit and those are as difficult to get as a golden ticket for a tour of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.) So how could this happen? It was illegal for that man to have that gun in public. And yet, the overly restrictive guns in this state didn’t prevent this tragedy. He used a rifle, I guess we should expect the lawmakers to jump on banning owning those, too. Most curious part of this tragedy – Santa Cruz is well known here for being an extremely Liberal city, one of the most Liberal in the state and we even refer to it as Hippyville – they’re a quiet town, run around in Birkenstocks, laid back surfers, pot smokers, etc. – and considering he targeted police, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if it comes out he was one of their own.

Was only a matter of time before someone followed in Dorners footsteps. That’s what happens when the news glorifies murderous actions against police officers.

God bless our police officers, nationwide and RIP to those officers today who tragically, ended their watch.

Few of us go to work each day wondering “is this the day I don’t come home?”

My only complaint about the reporting…please don’t identify that deceased dirt bag a “sniper.” He was a shooter.

“Sniper” used for as a criminal reference is a disservice to our highly trained military marksmen.

There must be an All-American Gun Enthusiast Patriot that can stop this criminal!! Any takers?

        He probably is one.

    Oh, God. A Dorner protege.

Snipers rarely operate during broad daylight in an urban environ. What you have is a pissed off husband or boyfriend running away, up and over roofs from a domestic dispute that no doubt went bad.

Doesn’t forgive the crime and sin of multiple murders of police officers. Doubt the cops will find an ‘assault rifle’, if one was actually used.

If there had. It would be all over the news like Lee Harvey Oswald’s Manlicher Carcano bolt action rifle.

Very scary heading home from work today.

My brother in law is SCPD and he’s OK but they’re all shaken. I wonder if it was the Anarchists/OSC types livid about the camping ban and went nuts.

I’m sure Sacramento Dems will waste no time in pushing for bans on “high-powered” ammo like 30-06, 30-30, .308, 35-70, 45-70, and 6.8mm.

Or in other words, deer-hunting ammo. Mark my words, it’ll happen. Under the guise of “sniper rifles” or “high-powered ammo.”

Speeches decrying the use of ammo that can pierce body armor (basically any non-22lr round). “NO ONE NEEDS A 30 CALIBER BULLET TO KILL A DEER!!!!!!”

    • DwellsInFire

I was looking over Dianne Feinstein’s list of 2258 guns that she deemed would be okay to own, earlier today. There’s some really high powered weaponry/ammo on there that put to shame those tiny little 5.56mm “assault weapon” rounds. The libs are only concerned with scary looks and not lethality. Let’s just hope this latest shooting uses a Feinstein approved gun, then everything will be legit.
