Social Media Reactions to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

One thing we have noticed in recent years is that when a new movie is coming out, they often set both a review embargo date and a social media reaction embargo date. That is, they often give critics a chance to see the relevant movie early, but tell them they can’t release the review until a certain date, and also they can’t post a reaction on social media until a different date, always before the review embargo is lifted.

This pattern is being followed with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is the last Guardians movie, though I am willing to bet that many of the characters will turn up in other Marvel movies and so on. On the other hand, James Gunn, the director, has basically become co-head of D.C. movie universe so he is not likely to be back for a long time.

In any case, the movie is coming out on May 5. The review embargo lifts on Friday, April 28, while the social media embargo lifted over the weekend. That is an encouraging sign because if a movie is bad, and the studio knows it is bad, they often embargo all criticism until the day the movie is released.

So, let’s get to some of those reactions, in no particular order:

And now we are starting to get to the ones that need to be translated:

According to Google translate, he is saying:

Despite the humor #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol3 is probably the saddest & darkest MCU film & a wonderfully rounded conclusion to Gunn’s trilogy, where everyone in the fight against a mean (but rather shallow) villain gets their big moment again. Have tissues ready!

And Jesus himself weighs in!

Google translate to the rescue:

I went with a preconceived idea to #GuardianesDeLaGalaxia3 and James Gunn has managed to surprise me for good. It is darker and has even touches of terror, but it is still very funny and with a lot of personality. Rocket and Nebula excel in a very dignified send-off.

More to translate:

Translation:

It has spectacular action set pieces, is fun, entertaining and emotional. It is a perfect and beautiful closure for its characters and the saga. And it’s the best Marvel movie since Endgame (and Top3 in general)

A two-parter to translate:

Translation:

Our favorite gang of misfits is back for an ultimate intergalactic adventure that keeps all its promises. A great show, an emotional lift that serves our hearts, a rhythmic soundtrack and a touch of humor that makes us smile…

…the Guardians are true to themselves for our greatest happiness. The answers to our questions are there. Goodbyes hurt but tears are of joy.

An adjective sums up the film: INCREDIBLE!

These translated reactions are clumsy but we think we get the idea.

Translation:

Les #GardiensdelaGalaxie3 is the best of the trilogy, the most moving but also the most serious. The humor is there (and goes well), but the tone has changed. The fights are brutal, the VFX clean, and the AD cool. Adam Warlock is disappointing otherwise, but Chukwudi Iwuji in HE is great.

Translation:

#GuardianesDeLaGalaxia3 is hilarious, tremendously emotional and the roundest film in the saga. The James Gunn movies are the happy place to come back to in the MCU and Volume 3 is the perfect, hope-filled culmination for Marvel’s heartiest heroes.

And now a hat trick:

Translation:

He revived the cinema. The closing of the James Gunn trilogy with his #GuardianesDeLaGalaxia is an impressive and very emotional spectacle. One of those that we had almost forgotten with Marvel and that is enjoyed here in stereo. And with effects to match! Truly the best since #Endgame .

They have let Gunn cook to his liking, and boy did the menu turn out tasty. #GuardianesDeLaGalaxia3 , at times, enjoys himself as a blockbuster with a romantic soul… and then disguises himself as a Troma movie, or as a glam ‘Barbarella’, as he pleases. It’s a yes, people.

In the end, #GuardianesDeLaGalaxia3 triumphs because it is the respected vision, on the found family, of an author. Even if that author likes crazy set pieces, diegetic music and practical effects.

A pretty positive reaction so far, but full reviews might tell a different story.
