Journalism RT @blakehounshell: What's the argument that these five Taliban guys are so dangerous? Are they ninjas? Do they have superpowers?
— S.M (@redsteeze) June 3, 2014
Sure, the five Taliban leaders released from Guantanamo Bay in exchange for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl were bad guys … but just how bad? Politico’s Blake Hounshell asks the question the rest of us would be too embarrassed to ask: were these guys, like, super-powered ninjas or something?

@blakehounshell veteran commanders. Not a dime a dozen. (not my opinion, just saying) cc @EliLake
— Justin Miller (@justinjm1) June 3, 2014
@justinjm1 @elilake Eh. They have been off the battlefield for years; surely plenty of veteran commanders out there.
— Blake Hounshell (@blakehounshell) June 3, 2014
@blakehounshell By that logic Osama Bin Laden was just another terrorist. Why waste so much by going after him?
— Kaushik Kapisthalam (@kapisth) June 3, 2014
@blakehounshell Perhaps US could keep them in Washington if they're not so dangerous.
— Shuja Rabbani (@ShujaRabbani) June 3, 2014
@blakehounshell – really? That they are senior commanders, with a track record of successful operations? Plus recruiting poster boys…

@blakehounshell @justinjm1 @EliLake The issue isn't combat exp. The issue is organizational exp. These are Taliban govt. Intel, Army, Comm

@blakehounshell @justinjm1 @EliLake These men are the best legitimate leaders the Taliban has and will play huge role in future power strgle
— mitrebox (@mitrebox) June 3, 2014
@blakehounshell @justinjm1 I have that point in the piece. In 2012 Panetta and Clapper thought it was too risky to release them.
— Eli Lake (@EliLake) June 3, 2014
@EliLake @justinjm1 and what about the ninja thing, Eli?
— Blake Hounshell (@blakehounshell) June 3, 2014
@blakehounshell @justinjm1 The Taliban seemed to think these guys getting out of Gitmo was a big deal.
— Eli Lake (@EliLake) June 3, 2014
@EliLake @justinjm1 Sure, great propaganda opportunity.
— Blake Hounshell (@blakehounshell) June 3, 2014
@EliLake We'll be looking over our shoulder for a while after this. Hope they're right re: for networks being decimated.

.@blakehounshell you mean like Ninjas that can sneak onto airplanes with box cutters? Asshole.
— S.M (@redsteeze) June 3, 2014
@blakehounshell Uh because they're terrorists?
— Harry (@Tark31) June 3, 2014
@redsteeze I'd be willing to wager that @blakehounshell had a different reaction when Bid Laden was killed and that was just one man.
— BiasedGirl (@BiasedGirl) June 3, 2014
They have bomb vests and followers who are willing to wear them. @blakehounshell
— Keep Calm and Carry (@johnnyfriegas) June 3, 2014
@blakehounshell Umm.. Because others have committed terrorism after being released?
— Kathleen McKinley (@KatMcKinley) June 3, 2014

@blakehounshell Um, are you joking?Tell families of those who were ethnically "cleansed" by slitting of throats in front of their families.
— Kathleen (@katnandu) June 3, 2014
They aided and directed the killing of American soldiers you vile, smug little prick @blakehounshell
— Hashtag War (@marklindesr) June 3, 2014
@blakehounshell Congrats. That might be the stupidest thing I've ever read. https://t.co/ozaVHi7Ojg
— Lane Homme (@HeavensLane) June 3, 2014
@blakehounshell You can't honestly be that dumb. OBL wasn't a "ninja," didn't have "superpowers." He killed nearly 3,000 Americans.
— Men Rec (@rustyweiss74) June 3, 2014
Maybe you should leave certain topics to the adults, champ. I hear Buzzfeed needs someone to make cat GIFs. @blakehounshell
