Professor who hoped kids of NRA members would be victims of a mass shooting placed on administrative leave

A University of Kansas journalism professor who tweeted after the Washington Navy Yard shooting that he hoped the next victims of a mass murderer would be children of NRA members has been placed on administrative leave, several days after making these comments:

https://twitter.com/DWGuth/statuses/379679269016064000

The University of Kansas confirmed the suspension via their Twitter feed:

Many are calling his comments “controversial.” Since when is it merely “controversial” to express a hope for children to be shot?

We’ll now wait and see if this is one of those “just long enough until the dust settles” kind of administrative leaves. And is it really a “punishment”?

Twitchy will keep you updated on this story as it unfolds.

University of Kansas at Lawrence. The UC Berkeley of the mid west.

I spent a month there one weekend long ago.

    Oh, and “Ski Kansas!”

    • The Marathon Man

Contrast that with my alma mater, Kansas State University, which is one of the most CONSERVATIVE universities in the country – all within a 90-minute drive of each other!

      • Jay Stevens

I am curious. Who has the better football team?

        • franknmiller

          uhhh….basketball ??

        • The Marathon Man

LMAO! As if!!! Everyone knows libs can only play sports that involve wearing short pants!!!
Go ‘Cats! Kick Bevo Brisket this weekend! EMAW!!!

            Jayhawk……………KU!

      • bonnieblue2A

So you went to Silo Tech! Small world this Twitchy. Went to Snob Hill myself but did take one history class through your alma mater.

    • bonnieblue2A

When you refer to “Ski Kansas” are you talking about the slope at Mt. Blue or the KU Water Ski Team? (been there, skied both)

Here is the story link from today’s UDK (University Daily Kansan):

      • Jack Deth

        Hi, bonnie:

        Neither, actually.

During the 1970s, there were a bunch of wall posters printed up. Uniform earth tone, tan background and black ink. With a wide flat line horizon inked nearly across. Save for one large sunflower.

And the urge to “Ski Kansas’ above the lower right hand corner.

  • $472942

Yup. A paid vacation. Nothing, absolutely nothing negative will actually happen to this clownish asshat…

    • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

He won’t be shaping young skulls full o’ mush, though. Small blessings, small blessings.

  • Al’s Grandpa

    Administrative leave? That’s it?

    • ObamaFail

He’s a liberal wishing death on NRA children. That’s not a termination worthy offense to liberal universities. Now if he were a Conservative, he’d be fired and blacklisted.

      • Kevin Roe

Although a conservative would likely not wish death on anyone.

        • bungopony

Exactly! But he wouldn’t have to.he’d just have to be NRA.

        • BAW

Of course not, it’s just part of the current insanity. Pretty sure a conservative would be in far more serious trouble for advocating protection of the innocent, the unborn. Imagine if one called Planned Parenthood baby killers.

        • TexSizzle

Actually, I wish on them what they wish on me. If they wish death on me, I return the wish to them, but without malice toward any other.

      • bonnieblue2A

His hate tweet should be taken as seriously as anyone who would threaten to harm any KU student. For liability and safety reason’s alone this associate Prof. of the KU School of Journalism should be terminated and banned from every property KU owns/operates.

  • Sakemoto

Administrative leave is code for “wait until it dies down and goes away” and then it’s back to business as usual.

    • BlueGood

Too bad “STONING Stupid Radical Leftist Wankers” was taken off the criminal code a few years ago….

I think it was under Section 543.505-Z.444.999Byte me in the U.S. Penal Code…..(sigh)…oh for the good ole days…..

      • SkyePuppy

But they LIKE to get stoned!

Count me in for a C Note towards bail for anyone that bitch slaps this pig!!!

    • PatriotRG

i will double that – i need the pictures though

    Hahahahahaha!

  • Irish 41

Obviously he can’t read as the Second Amendment says what to do with guns and ammo. Freedom can be messy.

  • walterc

How does he know that none of the victims at the Navy yard weren’t the children of NRA members? Or NRA members themselves? Or the victims of the latest group shooting in Chicago?

    • MrSnuggles2k2

Like the 3 year old. Anybody that wishes harm to children should be cast out of society.

  • JeffWRidge

Keep shining that sunlight on them. I think it’s burning them.

  • http://www.freedomreconnection.com CO2 Producer

From KU’s statement on the matter, a subtle indication that maybe not everyone in charge at the school quite gets it:

Ann Brill, dean of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications:

“While the First Amendment allows anyone to express an opinion, that privilege is not absolute and must be balanced with the rights of others. That’s vital to civil discourse. Professor Guth’s views do not represent our school and we do not advocate violence directed against any group or individuals.”

Expressing an opinion is a “privilege” that “is not absolute,” the dean of Journalism and Mass Communications says. Free speech is a conditional privilege? It “must be balanced with the rights of others,” she says. What does that even mean?

As part of a Bill of Rights, The First Amendment doesn’t allow us anything. We are born with the freedom to speak as we wish, and the First Amendment protects that ability. Anyone can say whatever they want. However, they must be prepared for repercussions to the things they say if those words infringe on the “rights of others.”

Maybe I’m being a bit harsh. She wasn’t the one who wished death upon children. But I guess I expect more than a poorly worded statement like that from a dean involved in Communications.

    • obloodyhell

You expected more from a liberal twit? Silly CO2 Producer!!

      • http://www.freedomreconnection.com CO2 Producer

Oh yeah?! How do we know she’s a lib’rul??

        dean of…Journalism and Mass Communications

        *cough*

        • IBXNJ

That tweet just establish for the professor MALICE.. May be a good idea to check his other tweets. He left the door wide open

  • disqus_FlD2VMR2RJ

Placed on leave, until enough alumni donors stop supporting the university to force him out.

  • cmerlo1

    It’s fun watching liberals implode.

  • Sherry

sounds like this guy has a bit of an anger problem: Campus Reform has learned that Guth was also publicly censured by the university on October 8, 2010 for “unprofessional, threatening, and abusive behavior towards another faculty.”

    • Thale Taxurfeet

“sounds like this guy has a bit of an anger problem: Campus Reform has learned that Guth was also publicly censured by the university on October 8, 2010 for “unprofessional, threatening, and abusive behavior towards another faculty.”

Given the SOP for rough and tough blow-hards like Guth, I’d be willing to wager it was either an elderly faculty member or someone half his size.

  • Love of Country

Liberal values create killers and this delusional idiot is public enemy #1.

  • obloodyhell

    Is that paid or unpaid?

  • MSM

So he’d wish death on their children who had little power in their decisions. Rather barbaric…

  • SpaceRacer423

and now he’ll spend his paid vacation time blogging about how U of KS violated his “free speech rights.”

  • Morneau_for_4

So basically KU takes him out of the classroom until this blows over. Fire these people…it’s so ridiculous.

  • lulu5297

U of K alumni–stop sending your money to the university. It’s the only thing they understand.

    • Childrex

I am a UK alum. That would be University of Kentucky. University of Kansas goes by KU because everyone thinks Kentucky when you say UK. Hopefully, UK would fire him not give him a paid vacation. And I am not a NRA supporter.

      • lulu5297

I know. Shorthand typing and since this tweet is about the University of Kansas…..

  • stuckinIL4now

I’m shocked KU did anything. As for vilifying the NRA … I doubt the gangbangers in Chicago who shot those 13 people last night are NRA members or are even considering membership with their likely illegally-obtained guns.

  • Turd Burglestein

Administrative Leave = Still getting full pay, but now for doing nothing.

They don’t have administrative leave where I work…it’s called “Your ass is fired”.

    • Unicorns and Rainbows

      LOL!

    • Jay Stevens

Yes, but you do not have tenure.

  • brewerandpatriot

At least the students get a reprieve from hearing his asinine twaddle. They’re the ones being punished every day this piece of garbage clocks in.

    • Thale Taxurfeet

“At least the students get a reprieve from hearing his asinine twaddle. They’re the ones being punished every day this piece of garbage clocks in.”

Yup, the students and whomever is picking up their tab for tuition.

  • oneteedoffpatriot

What is it with liberals and there preoccupation with killing kids?

  • Right Wired

    He wrote:

    ” David Guth ‏@DWGuth 16 Sep @Flidais68 God’s justice takes many forms.”

Yep, and God just suspended his sorry ass.

I can’t believe he posted his home address on his account:

    38.971199,-95.291161

    • Clete Torres

How is that a home address? I don’t get it.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just figured it out. Yeah, that was stupid.

  • MrSnuggles2k2

Sadly a 3 year old was shot in a Chicago mass shooting. I hope this guy feels great about himself.

  • BigTBoom

They always tell you its some crazy right wing, conspiracy theorist, NRA card carrying nut job who goes on these random shootings… and then the truth comes out.

    • trixiewoobeans

Ever notice how obsessed with death Dems are? It’s creepy.

  • johnmully

Why any parent sends their kids to KU is beyond me! EMAW!

    • franknmiller

I had a kid go to each….KSU has their share of flakes trust me

      • johnmully

We may have some weirdos but sir we do not have profs wishing children to be slaughtered in mass shootings! Come on this is Kansas we have an amazing state here filled with great people! Except that douchebag!

  • Michael Rice

Yep, death to children is “controversial”…Jesus, where do these idiots come from? Hell is my guess.

  • Suzyqpie

So he is the recipient of the Ward Churchill Teaching Award. Hubris takes another one out.

  • RLEE

they were just shamed into it in the first place or would not have done anything!!!

    • Ronald Green

They are trying to placate donors, alumni, and potential student recruits. I’m sure they’re getting burned pretty bad over this by all three groups.

  • https://www.facebook.com/trish.deneen TrishD

Wish it was more but it’s better than the university’s original “his free speech” stance I saw mentioned earlier. There’s free speech and then there’s psycho moonbat asshattery.

  • tops116

I’d complain about this guy getting a paid vacation, but he’s a professor, so he already has experience getting paid for doing nothing.

  • http://xirtamatrix.com yourmamatoo

He knows the blood is is on the hands of the shooter.
That is the reason for his anger.

  • Rusty Shackleford

This guy should never be allowed the right of having a firearm. I’ll keep mine to protect my kids from murderous whackjobs like him. And my NRA membership.

  • AD_Rtr_OS

The UK alumni must have been burning the wires into the Chancellor’s Office over this.

  • LegalizeShemp

Everything Democrats do is “for the children”, even if it involves children getting killed to make their point.

  • rainmcmanis

Frankly, anyone who blames these events on the NRA is unable to think critically.

  • JAORE

I’m an alum. I have e-mailed the school to say:
    – This guy is an extreme zealot, to the point that

    – There is no way he can accept that there are valid points from those on the other side of the argument, and therefore
    – I cannot believe he is qualified to teach journalism.

At least theoretically a J-major is taught to determine facts…. Yeah, I know.

    • JR48

I have to say as a parent who has a child that is actively searching where to go to college, I’m taking notes about this sort of thing. Every time a professor opens his/her mouth and does this sort of thing, I scratch them off the list. Ten bucks that I’m not the only one doing this. It’s one thing to have a liberal bias, it’s quite another to wish death on people, especially children.

And yes, I do mean I’m against my child attending, even if my kid isn’t going to major in that particular subject. If a college/university condones this sort of thing, we’re taking our tuition dollars elsewhere. They can cater to others who support such vile rhetoric, and that wouldn’t be my family.

      • Ruth

I hope you let the universities that condone this behavior know.

  • TheLibertyDefender

Is David Guth the next Adam Lanza?

  • no_more_deceit

Guth, job opening in East Lansing, must be a bigoted left wing nut job, you qualify, hurry, hurry, hurry. Tenure – manure, you should be fired.

  • AZWarrior

The only reason the University took any action at all was because he mentioned God and they can’t allow any of that religion stuff to get into their cloistered ivy covered utopia.

  • BeeKaaay

Oh look, a bloodthirsty leftwingwacko got a FREE PAID VACATION FOR HATE SPEECH.

  • http://boogieforward.us/ K-Bob

The cockroaches have been exposed, and are making their “brave” last stand by being as obnoxious as possible.

I know most of you are in a fighting mood, and are just about ready for all of the shootin’ to begin. I totally get that.

But here’s the thing. We have a moral obligation to begin the Article Five Convention of the States process as a chance to prevent all out war. The moral part is that we must do it to spare the lives of these foolish, deranged people.

Think of it as asking politely, once.

  • rennyangel2

U of Kansas homepage has a link to contact the pres. Write him a sweet letter demanding this cretinous maroon Duff be terminated a la Ahhnold.

  • ELC

KU professor Guth should not get a slap on the wrist for this offense, but a permanent firing for that statement.

  • franknmiller

tenure is the problem ….why they give these idiots tenure is beyond me.

    • ELC

These college professors are way too liberal and think their views are shared by all. They shouldn’t get tenure. Their mouths runneth over and their comments are both disgusting and off the wall. Unfortunately, they just get a slap on the wrist and back to work they go.

    • bonnieblue2A

From the description on the faculty page I’d be surprised if this hate-filled loser with the inability to control his anger in public has tenure. Mr. Guth is listed as an “associate” professor.
      http://www.journalism.ku.edu/faculty-staff

      • beebop1952

With any luck? 0bamacare will force the university to place him in “part time associate” status and he will be on his own for care the next time he bites his foot.

  • Jim Evans

Let’s have our troops go to Syria with just a spoon. I’m sure Al Quaeda won’t be so mean as to shoot at them.

  • ToyZebra

I wish I could get paid not to show up for work.

  • YouGoGirl

So are these admittedly Democrat professors deliberately saying trash talk just to get paid vacation ? I gotta hand it to them, that’s downright devious. Us regular folk would just get canned, sigh.

  • sludog

Elementary school student bites Pop Tart into shape of Gun – Suspension, writeup, BFD. College Professor wishes Elementary School Students are gunned Down – Paid Vacation. Ain’t America GRAND!!

  • right_on

But, still getting paid, no doubt…

  • Medicinewoman2

In reality when you shame my business I fire you.

Key Word: Reality! Something lacking in academia.

  • Frustrated Teacher

I wish I could say or do something on my job and get ‘paid leave’…..doesn’t work that way, though!

  • Joseph Kurt

So we just pay the guy money to sit around and bitch about the GOP? What is this, the welfare office or the Huffington Post?

  • precursor

What is with democrats and their death wishes for children? This is the 2nd story on twtichy this morning ready about that. Democrats are truly the party of hate.

  • http://drudge.com snyper77
