‘Is LSD covered?’: Oregon’s new ad promoting O-care exchange must be seen to be believed [video]

So, Oregon wants to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony … about upcoming enrollment in its state health care exchange. But all that hand-holding doesn’t come cheap:

Well, we’re sure all those tax dollars are being well spent …

That’s an excellent question in light of this abomination:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLpKDNVU9dA

Pardon our French, but what the hell did we just watch?

Ugh. Painful. Not to mention incredibly ironic:

On the wings of dependency!

  • Canadian in USA

I was going to make some comment about this commercial reminding me of “Yellow Submarine”, but then I realized I’d be insulting The Beatles.

    • CatHerder

Go ahead, you can take ’em!

    • Elaine

Wow, there’s an entire page of Cover Oregon commercials trying to convince people to sign up! They’re even using children. Imagine that?

      • socalcon

After all, it IS for the children.

      • TocksNedlog

        SHOCKA!!!

I sure miss the good old days when people only made fun of our residents.

      • BlahBlah

I like her dress. Is it covered on the exchange?

        • Andy from Beaverton

I think Tonya Harding’s mom made all her outfits.

          • Jerry Camp

…out of drapes she stole from numerous Holiday Inns.

      • therealguyfaux

You laugh all you want at Tonya Harding, but I loves me some Amy Roloff! Someone has to give that hubby of hers a swift kick in the ass now and then, and she’s just the gal to do it!

If Ralph and Alice Kramden were four feet tall, and raising kids, one of whom was also a four-footer, you’d have the general idea. He comes up with weird s#!t projects and she always has to hold his feet to the fire– “Great, Matt! Now tell me how we’re going to pay for it!”

    Next state to legalize pot?

    • CatHerder

      Or LSD.

    • Jerry Camp

They already have medical MJ, officials estimate that ONLY 95% of the use is recreational, and the police are under orders not to arrest for possession, even if the use is public. I saw too many cops turn a blind eye to hippies toking it up at MAX stations waiting for the train…and those ‘wonderful’ trains only lost about $20 million a year.

        • BlahBlah

Um… how do you know you don’t taste like chicken? :/

          • The Penguin (Happy Hanukkah)

Know? Nope. Opinions vary. But I’ve never been associated with the likes of a chicken. Taste or otherwise. 😉

Believe me, this is a totally normal commercial for Oregon.

    • DaMello

So true! I’m not far from the WA / OR border. If I could convince hippies to camp out by the Columbia River for a fabulous drum circle, I could have them all drowned over night. But they really hate water……

      • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

        Soap too.

        • BoltUp

That’s why it rains so much in the Pacific NW, just so the hippies get washed a little bit now and then…

      • Lady 12

Until our own state outdoes Oregon with the drug-induced lunacy, I will enjoy mocking our inferior neighbors to the immediate south. We Washingtonians never get to mock people.

I live in WA state. My insurance company is no longer offering plans in my state after Jan 1, 2014. Got the notice a couple months ago. How I will find a doctor willing to take me and under a new unknown plan in my rural area is beyond me. Nerve racking.

        : ).
Don’t be sorry; the adversity has made me stronger
And I’m not responsible for NJ’s reputation(s). Or its stupidity.
Ya know that boardwalk fire last week? Turns out no one thought to replace the saltwater corroded wiring after Sandy.

        God Help Us.

        • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

Well there were a few non-union electricians that tried to do it, but IBEW Local 238 took care of them.

          • grais

I’m not sure what you’re talking about, but it looks like No One in Seaside thought salt water would hurt the wiring. We can expect a lot more fires down there if everyone fixed their houses that well.

          • Michelle

            Clearly Snookie’s fault.

          • grais

Just a jab at the union guys who didn’t want help from electric repair crews that came up from the south. Well, they’d have wanted their help if they’d have paid union dues during their stay.

          • grais

            Ah, that.

I hope you don’t think I’m being pro-union in the least, but fair is fair :

But none of that had to do with repairing (or not repairing, as it turned out) the boardwalk electricity. It may very well have been union knuckleheads who thought 40 year old corroded wiring was a-okay.

Oregon’s been Californicated. Wave after wave kept going up as their own state crumbled. The Portland, and to a lesser extent Eugene area, overturn the State’s conservative votes time and time again. Same with Washington State and Colorado. The cities drive the vote.

      • grais

Cities/slums evidently drive the vote in NJ, too. That’s why we got Menendez. And why we’ll get Booker. And why we’re considered a blue state, although we’re far more independent than either red or blue.

Seriously, is that all people do in Oregon is play guitar, hike, kayak, raise chickens and enjoy the outdoors? Because that’s all I see depicted in this ad.

    • sambar2

I’d have no problem with that if any of these activities (raising chickens? playing guitar?) allowed them to pay their own way. Instead so many are reliant on the government or, in reality, citizens actually making a paycheck, to pay their bills. This shouldn’t be ok to anyone with a conscience.

      • World B. Free

In a free country, it’s their right to choose to play guitar all day, or do any of that stuff. It is NOT their right to demand that the government confiscate my property by force (taxes) to pay for their health insurance while they sit around all day singing Kum-Ba-Ya.

    • TocksNedlog

      That, plus the meth parties.

  • JoeMyGodNYC

If you buy through New York state’s exchange, your monthly premium will probably go down about 50%. Yup, pretty excited about that. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-07-17/new-york-insurance-rates-said-to-drop-about-50-for-individuals.html

    • ObamaFail

And you actually believe that? HA! That’s coming from the same morons who tried to convince people who great Obamacare is. IT’s false information. Just watch. You’ll be blaming Bush for your skyrocketing premiums when Obamacare takes full effect. I say blaming Bush because that’s all you libs do, because your Golden God Obama is never to be criticized otherwise it’s considered racist.

      • JoeMyGodNYC

New York state has already published the approved premiums for the 17 insurance carriers participating in the exchange plan. The preliminary buy-in period for coverage starting on January 1st starts in two weeks. I’m self-employed, so if I go with the Freelancer’s Union, for example, my monthly gold plan premium will be $445.93. http://www.dfs.ny.gov/about/press2013/pr1307171_health_rates_2014.pdf

        • MarcusFenix

445 dollars a month? My better half gets her insurance through Anthem. She gets full coverage, a generous package with regards to prescriptions and the like, a 500 co-pay for hospital visits…..the full monty.

she pays 75 dollars every 2 weeks. You’re spending 300 more a month for less than she gets. Just saying, that doesn’t seem like such a win. Granted, it’s NY vs VA…but I’d be hard pressed to believe things are better all over the place, when NY (as pointed out in the other post) is -cheaper- AND it’s the exception.

    • stuckinIL4now

And I bet your 50% less premium will get you 500% less health care.

      • JoeMyGodNYC

If I stay with my current carrier, I’ll have the same doctor, same office visit co-pay, but my prescription co-pay will go up to $25 (for most non-generics). Other than that….

      • Jerry Camp

And their rates were already much higher than the rest of the country, so…it’s all relative.

      • Jerry Camp

And their rates were already much higher than the rest of the country, so…it’s all relative.

    • MarcusFenix

So, NY gets a 50% reduction (though lets be honest, your stats are incredibly suspect…remember the UN gun graphics?)….

Florida’s goes up over 37%. Ohio goes up 41%. And that’s just 2 state

      From the cnn link below:

“Florida found premiums will rise between 7.6% and 58.8%, depending on the insurer. The average increase would be 35%.”

      http://money.cnn.com/2013/08/06/news/economy/obamacare-premiums/index.html

Since you’re talking about New York, from the same article:

“So why aren’t there such big premium increases in other states? New
York, for example, already required that insurers provide comprehensive
coverage to all who apply. Rates there could fall by half since the pool
will expand to include many younger, healthier residents under
Obamacare. But New York is more the exception than the rule, experts
      said.”

Sooooooo….New York is the -exception-, and not the rule. That’s what I figured.

How about those awesome unions who voted in our precious Leader?

      http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/09/12/afl-cio-steps-up-pressure-on-white-house-for-obamacare-changes/

      Nope…he screwed them too.

All this, on top of the fact that these healthcare issues are causing employers to drop hours, drop people off their insurance roles, and basically make the working landscape into a more part time job experience. Yeah, this is working out awesome.

  • Damien Johnson

I hate to say it, but I agree with Cartman.

I’m actually sad for Oregon. They believe this dribble….free to be healthy! Yeah, anything but FREE Bend, Rogue River, Astoria, Portland, Seaside, Eugene, it ain’t free.
Then again, this is a state where you cannot pump your own gas by law….and you can smoke pot pretty much anywhere….and tie dye never went out of style.
That had to have been created by a UC Santa Cruz Banana Slug or a Warren Wilson College grad or maybe even a Reed College grad student. Amazing.

Since 2007 the Oregon Legislature has taken $1 BILLION out of the General Fund designated for schools, in secret, with media cover, and redirected it to Department of Human Services for creation of Oregon’s “free” healthcare program and the exchanges. Then, again with media cover, they came crying to Oregonians that the children were going to suffer because “Bush’s recession” (their words, not mine) had devastated tax revenue. So they forced, by scaring the public employee unions and the low info voters with “save the schools”, two new tax measures on us that pushed unemployment up and scared employers and employees out of the state.
So, basically, these ads that the stoned residents of Portland and Eugene probably love were paid for in secret, by gutting the school budget and then getting taxes raised to save the schools. We still spend $10,000 per student here in Oregon and this is the crap we get for it: ads for stoners.
