Thai Airways jet skids off runway; Airline officials quickly scramble to … cover the logo [pics]

In an emergency, sometimes “image protection” instincts kick in strong:

The Thai Airways Airbus A330-300 skidded off the runway at Bangkok’s main airport, and company officials kicked into high gear to shelter the brand:

Ironically, the company’s move probably only ensured that more people heard what happened.

The number of minor injuries was revised down to thirteen, and surprisingly none of them were due to paint fume inhalation.

So the Airline is run by Democrats?

    • Ted H.

it IS all about the ‘optics’…

  • Sakemoto

Spokesman: We didn’t do that. They, (points to Asiana Air jetliner) they did it!

  • RblDiver

Trying to make “whitewash history” a literal meaning eh?

I was thinking that wasn’t much different than what Obama does to the Constitution every day.

  • Robyn

I love the fact that they made sure to cover up the logo and airline name, but don’t bother to cover up the company colors on the tail, which are just as distinctive.

    • Clayton Grant

And seen on the A-330 with Thai logo taking off in the background!

      • Spiny Norman

I think the photographer did that on purpose.

  • James Rose

Painting over the airline name and logo on the tail should really work good as the paint scheme of the plane is used by many other airlines. NOT.

  • Cole Slagh

At this point, what difference does it make?

    That’s one big ass Sharpie

    • WhoMeToo

      Great minds!!!! XD

    • AMERICAN Kafirâ„¢(KAdams)

Lol… So I sent to Ethan Klapper… “I didn’t know they made Sharpies that large!”

  • WhoMeToo

That was one BIG Sharpie. O.O

  • Steve_J

Seems like a waste of paint.

  • desicon

    It is all Bush’s fault.

  • Richard Jefferies

Great work, now you only invite people to figure out what you are hiding and you end up drawing more attention to the wreck.

  • Spiny Norman

Damn! That must have been one huge… Oh. Everyone else made the joke already.

  • Clete Torres

So: Thai Airlines – with their distinctive paint scheme – decides to black out their logo on tail and fuselage, BUT LEAVES THE DISTINCTIVE PAINT SCHEME.

Good plan. NOBODY will figure out who’s plane it is that way…

EDIT: Nuts. Robin beat me to it. That does it: next time, I skip the shower.

    Large Sharpie I’d say.

  • peteee363

ups used to, and may still have a policy for the drivers to cover up the logo on their trucks in case of an accident. like anybody would be fooled by a brown truck today?

  • peteee363

where was wei too lo today?

    • 3seven77

Used the same Photoshopper as Obama’s birth certificate!

Why didn’t they use white paint?

  • Jeremy

Why didn’t they use white paint?

  • objectivefactsmatter

That was stupid. I would have forgotten this little accident within days, now Thai airlines goes on my blacklist. OTOH, it’s doubtful I would have used them anyway. But I do share my blacklists…

Reminds me of what is called “pulling a Streisand.” The singer complained about a picture of her home that only a few people had seen…but because she was so famous and got press coverage many thousands heard her complaint. Eventually over a million people saw the picture as a result of her complaint.

“Heard about that plane that slid off the runway? No”

“Heard about the plane that slid off the runway and painted over their name? No. Here’s a picture.”
