Busted but not sorry: John McCain admits playing on iPhone during Syria hearing

As Twitchy noted earlier, an eagle-eyed Washington Post photographer spotted Sen. John McCain playing poker on his iPhone during today’s hearing on Syria. Word spread quickly through social media, and it didn’t take long for the news to reach McCain himself. The senator was unapologetic, though; it was a really long meeting, after all, and John Kerry was doing most of the talking.

Exactly. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, as long as you had fun.

  • Tugger – not quite dead yet

Sen. McCain, You are an embarrassment to the people of this country. You are sitting in a debate about a military attack on another country and have the balls to play games and make jokes. If you are an example of the best the republican party has to offer, this country truly is doomed.

    • Pat

he’s not a Republican, he’s just the joke.

He kind of reminds me of Colonel Tigh, that drunken bastard sleeper agent of ours stationed on the Galactica.

Disgusting. Islamic apologist, a slacker, and a lousy poker player to boot.

  • gman213

First of all, its bad enough you did it. Secondly you were stupid enough to tweet it…God help us.

  • JeffWRidge

Given his intelligence he probably lost by doubling down on a busted straight.

    • TocksNedlog

Hey, HEY!!! Now, cut that out!
What John and Lindsey do in the Senate cloakroom is THEIR business.

      • objectivefactsmatter

What happened to Don’t Ask Don’t Tell?

      • Magdalene51

Busted straight – would that be John, or Lindsey?

  • cscape

Senator…. You’ve had a wonderful day, haven’t you? First, you equate the maniacal radical Islamists shouting “Alah hu Akbar” with ordinary American Christians and Jews saying “Thank God”, then you prove your complete lack of seriousness with this “crisis”, by playing computer games on your iPhone (caught on film by no less than the Washington Post), and to top it off, you slough it off with a stupid joke “worst of all, i lost”…… I’ll take issue with that Senator…. WORST OF ALL, you are still a Senator, who has revealed a complete disregard for the seriousness of the trust the people of Arizona have place in you….. You sir (despite your heroic war record) are a disgrace! For the sake of our nation, step down…. (you can cite “health issues” – in this case, clearly MENTAL HEALTH)

    • Ty in TX

That was my reaction to Cscape. Worst of all I lost?! Worst of all you did it at all!! You’re sitting in a briefing about the possibility of entering into hostilities with another country….another in the Mid-East mind you – that’s always gone so well for us – and how do you spend your time? By playing games?! The people of Arizona who elected you and by extension the American people deserve better than this.

      • trixiewoobeans

Hey, it’s not like any of his loved one’s will be in harm’s way! Or Pelosi’s, or Graham’s, etc., etc.

    • https://twitter.com/1776_Freedom_Fi 1776 Freedom Fighter

Well said, cscape; you’ve captured many of the key aspects of our gripes with McLame.

Here’s a pic showing the shameful RINO:

    • erehwon

He didn’t have a heroic war record. He lost three aircraft hot-dogging, graduated at the bottom of his class at Annapolis. Lost his fourth over North Vietnam. The ONLY thing he did right was stay in jail when the NVA offered to cut him loose because he was the admiral’s darling son.

      • miltfarrow

not only that but he “dislodged” a volatile armed missile under his right wing as they were moving him in his aircraft to the side while making room for inbound flights USS Kennedy I believe, it nearly took the fantail of the ship off and I think it killed 126 of our navy men. Such was the history of this Neo Con privelidged piece of garbage.

  • maggiespat

I am seriously nauseous after reading this. God help us, this is what stands between us and…..well, name the disaster.

  • Jennifer

    I have no words.

  • HARP2

Words fail me except…….Thank God it wasn`t STRIP POKER.

    • TocksNedlog

      WRONG McCain.

      [Think: BEWBIES!!!]

  • TocksNedlog

    That’s MY Senator!

    I’m so proud.

    • Marvin Nelson

Can’t you folks recall this jack wagon? If not, please primary him ASAP before he kills this country.

      • TocksNedlog

We need a viable alternative — accent on “viable”.

Also, he used to be better than he is now.
        Accent on “USED to be”.

    • Marvin Nelson

Btw, I like your new avatar!

      • TocksNedlog

      • lainer51

Likewise ….all that’s missing is the girls bike, helmet and Mom jeans…

    • Ty in TX

I’m sorry Tocks. *pats on back*
They all can’t be Ted Cruz.

      • TocksNedlog

I should have never left Texas.

    • grais

Ya know, I never felt very sorry about not voting for him; now I am elated about it.
If ever there was a case for term limits, John McCain is it.

    • erehwon

I voted for the radio guy in the primary and against him the first two times I could vote here.

  • fanofamerica

@Stranahan nails it in his tweet in the article. I knew McCain wasn’t a great candidate in 2008, but I did believe he was better than Obama. Turns out they both suck big time. Wish he’d quit giving us so much proof of that.

    • objectivefactsmatter

He might have been better then, but he’s clearly a political prostitute and he’s trying to show that he could have been an “0’Bama” POTUS just as well as the one we got.

  • Stupid Republic

As I’m reminded of this scene in Slap Shot, I’d like to point out to my former neighbors in Arizona that there is a provision to recall sitting assjacks like McCain:

McGrath: Well, I’d rather have em playin’ with their toys than playin’ with themselves

Reggie Dunlop: They’re too dumb to play with themselves. Boy, every piece of garbage that comes into the market and you gotta buy it!

    • Benjamin Johnson

Something tells me that Graham walked in on Johnny Boy wearing a zebra-skin jock and a bra with tassels, too.

      • Marvin Nelson

LOL. Good one and probably true.

        • erehwon

No, that is the younger McCain, the ‘full-figured’ one.

  • BoscoBolt

It’s all just a big joke – right John?

    WAR kills – it’s not a game.

  • NeoKong

    This explains a lot.

  • Marvin Nelson

And this is funny because . . .? With morons like this in Congress, we are screwed big time. I want my money back!!

  • nc

    Nothing embarrasses these fools.

He still can’t see how he’s mortified the country with his Allahu Ahkbar statement this morning. And we’re supposed to just blindly accept and follow.

    Makes me sick.

    • https://twitter.com/1776_Freedom_Fi 1776 Freedom Fighter

I share your feelings of sickness, NC; McLame *did* mortify the country with his quip, as you say.

Here’s a ‘toon which sums up the sad PC climate seen today:

  • Keith

Jackass McCain and Putz Obama was the best we could do in 2008? Scary, just scary. And then we re-elected the putz–aye carumba!!

  • HARP2
    • lainer51

I’m afraid OBongo will think Syria is one of the 57 states and bomb US!

      • brewerandpatriot

I hope Russia and Iran got their geography learnin’ from the same schools.

  • fireandreamitchell

If Songbird McCain can’t focus for three hours on sending Americans to defend al-Qaeda in Syria then he needs to retire and take his porky daughter with him. WTF do we pay his salary for then?

  • The Masked Avatar

We’re in the best of hands. I’m in the fetal position right now. Shaking.

  • Blargette

    Say it Tammy Bruce.

Freaking jokers making our beloved country’s decisions.

  • TJ

At least he could play easy war based game like Battleship or Risk.

    • erehwon

Risk ain’t easy. That’s why Napoleon invented it to war game with his general staff.

  • love2rumba

The Republican brand is now so damaged that anyone who is truly conservative/libertarian NEEDS to from a distinct Third Party or else risk being in the political wilderness decades. There is NO WAY people can reform the Republican Party if there is so much as ONE idiot like McCain.

  • CatHerder

Retire the man for all our sake, he is no more qualified to lead than my senile mother-in-law.

    • TocksNedlog

Your mother-in-law is Sheila Jackson Lee?

      • Clete Torres

        Oooh, that’s cold.

      • CatHerder

        SheJackL isn’t the same species.

  • detroit19

Can we elect some adults, PLEASE?!?

    • lainer51

Never have, never will, although I did hear Bubba liked to play “I will be the Daddy and you be my little girl”

  • el_polacko

a 3-hour work day is too much to ask from our senators ?!? mr. mccain, instead of tweeting a ‘joke’ you should be handing in your resignation.

  • grais

How much do we pay this POS ?
I’m starting to understand wtf is wrong w/his daughter.

  • logicrules

I truly do not understand the man, and even more, as a veteran, cannot adequat eley reconsile my feelings. McCain is enigmatic. Heroics deserve respect….. but as a forever-pass? .. I don’t rhink any “hero” would expect so.

  • Clete Torres

    What. A. Dumbass.

    Retire and go away please.

  • HuandaRulz

You have to bear with him, he doesn’t know understand anything about the Constitution so it gets boring when Rand Paul speaks. His next job should be Bingo Announcer at a Senior Citizens Home, that’s if they have him.

  • Greg

The American people have lost, not John McCain. Elect me, at least I will pay attention in the briefings!

  • Sky MKinley

depraved indifference to human life :( So many of our politicians represent everything that is reprehensible. We need a regime change in our own Government.
    Defund these parasitic mass murderers.

  • Thomas, Snarkmaster General

I don’t think McCain was playing poker. I think he was trying to figure out a 1 box Sudoku.

  • Michelle

In his defense, kissing John Kerry’s ass on International TV is disgusting and exhausting work. The poor dear needed a break.

  • seemorejustice

McCain: “I see your poison gas and I raise you two hundred tomahawk missiles, a six month no fly zone air campaign, and unannounced UN Weapons Inspectors!”

    “Crap! I busted out!”

Two terms and out… Term Limits, one can dream can’t they?!

  • Batman

F*** you McShame. You already know I feel by my comments on your Facebook page. You worthless POS. You invited people on your Facebook to watch you on Jay Leno. Like I said, the only way I’d watch you is if al-Qaida was going to behead you and televise it.

  • mhojai

He already had his script from jugears, actual thinking about what he was supposed to do was not required

  • http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1mo1wzFiu1qbubzqo1_400.gif Cleatus Van Damne ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Wow. I even paused Sons of Anarchy long enough to focus all of my energy into this wonderful comment for all you beautiful Twitchyanese people.

  • lainer51

TERM LIMITS!! These do-nothings get into office, make it their “career” and coast to retirement with a big fat bloated pension, which they vote for THEMSELVES… embarrassed to admit I cast my ballot for this clown, but the alternative was worse..

    • politics360

YES, and it should apply to all branches of government including the supreme court.

    • no good deed

I support the Kinky Friedman system. “Every politician should serve two terms, one in office and one in prison.”

  • Misanthrope

If Arizona doesn’t get rid of this clown next election, it should be thrown out of the union.

    • RalphTheCat

The sad thing is that we count on the voters to do the right thing.
The sadder thing is that we rely on these life-long politicians to realize when their career is over.
The saddest thing is that we do not have term limits.

  • MNWoman

Apparently he thinks the private meeting he and Graham had with Obama was all the discussion that was needed.

  • Axelgreaser

SOCIALIST OBAMA (Now we know his a raging Marxist) I want to hang my head and frankly, the person I feel sorriest for is Sarah Palin who was jettisoned onto the political scene by McCain and frankly, that is where my admiration for him ends. That is the one good thing he accomplished in his great career of RINOdom. Video games during an important debate that will determine many of our soldiers life or death for an action of Obama’s that was clearly timed to not stop his re-election…and then THAT tweet? McCain is more than a fool but I’m afraid saying would get me moderated.

    • politics360

I hate to think that people like John McCain are making decisions about using OUR military with so little concern. Disgrace that he has so little respect for our military and their families. Washington representatives should have to make the decision regarding war based on one of their children taking the front line. Bet we would NEVER go to war again!!! By the way, what is the difference in Syria using chemicals on their people when our government sent forces to test the atomic/H-bombs with knowledge, that they now admit after 60 years later, that radiation could kill them.

We should focus on the problems we have at home!! Lot of people in the US has lost hope not to mention their retirement, insurance, jobs, etc…….

  • beebop1952

What.A.Buffoon. The democrats can have him. He’s “evolved” to their liking.

  • Da_Bunny

So we paid him about $700.00 to play video poker today. Thanks for nothing, Senator.

  • OLLPOH ~ America

We accept your arrogant Resignation, yesterday!

    • graz

  • CrashFroelich

Explain to me again how J.D. Hayworth lost an election to this pathetic old fart?

  • Dave Turson
  • Bill Board

Yeah, Syria is a real crisis, so much so that old fossil Senators aren’t even listening to testimony. What a freakin JOKE!

  • no good deed

Pardon me for being offended by your inattention. I realize you already made up your mind to send my brothers and sisters at arms into harm’s way. The least you could do is pretend to be slightly interested in your job, you arrogant jerk.

  • GaryTheBrave

He’s from Nevada and he’s lousy at Poker? That should disqualify him from holding elective office at any level.

  • MadMichael

How do we ensure that he loses his next election? Do “the people” still have any power? Are there enough people who give a crap?

  • graz

this guy is a disgrace to my great state

  • putthehammerdown

Hey,…guys,…give him a break ! At least he was not :
    Cuffing his carrot
    Beating his beef
    Whacking his wanker
    Petting his one-eyed fwend, Petey
    Growing his sapling
    Getting Ready for Lindsay
…you-all gotta’ give the old guy some slack. Look at his feeble excuse for an explanation to see that his day is assuredly ‘done’.
Just pray Meaggie doesn’t run for his seat…………

  • sludog

When is AZ going to wake up and get rid of this RINO??
