‘Bigot, much?’: Douchey Matt Yglesias tweet prompts accusations of anti-Semitism

What exactly is Yglesias trying to accomplish here, other than upping his douchebag factor exponentially?

Ugh. Now, it’s important to remember that Yglesias is a notorious Twitter troll:

But that doesn’t excuse the moronic crap he comes up with.

Yep. We also remember the time he tweeted that a great way to avoid jail time would be to kill a young black man. That’s just the kind of guy he is. And while Yglesias’ article can most charitably be described as a pathetic attempt at bad satire:

His tweet is understandably prompting angry reactions:

For the record, Yglesias doesn’t understand how people could possibly fail to understand his brilliant satire:

“Goysplaining.”

Wrong again, Matt:

Yglesias definitely hasn’t learned how not to be a jackass.

Several tweeters made an important observation:

We’re gonna go out on a limb and suggest that if Yglesias had gone this route:

He’d be getting a bit more attention. Something for him to think about. Also worth his consideration:

Word.

Ahem…Uh no. It’s true his mother was from Polish Jew parents. But he does not practice the religion…therefore he’s not. And true Jews wouldn’t claim him anyway…so screw troll.

          • Michelle

Oh Penguin – it’s even more removed than that. It’s his father who was born to a mother who was a Polish Jew, not his mother. (Interestingly, the Wikipedia entry he obviously wrote about himself makes no mention of his mother). I believe according to Jewish law a child born to a Jewish mother is also Jewish, but the same doesn’t hold true when only the father is Jewish. So, unless he practices the religion (and I so seriously doubt he does), he’s not technically Jewish since it was his paternal grandmother and not his mother who was Jewish.

          • The Penguin #PublishThatSh*t

You are correct about the “requirements”. I had read that his mother was of 2 Jewish parents. But that may have been incorrect. My mother was born to Jewish parents. She discontinued practicing the faith and therefore was no longer considered to be a Jew according to her other family members. There are Arab, Russian, Polish, and other countless ethnicities and races that have Jews. Sammy Davis was a Jew, but I’m thinking that was in practice only? Certainly his ethnicity was not the “stereotypical” look of a Jew.

          • Michelle

I agree that if a person stopped practicing the faith into which they were born, then they are no longer of that faith. I know a few folks who call themselves Catholic and yet, they haven’t stepped foot in a church in decades. They’re more like Catholics just at Christmas and Easter. I looked into Davis Jr. because you got me curious. He converted and from what I just read, he did so because he felt the suffering of Jews was similar to the suffering of blacks.

I also just learned something interesting…When JFK was elected, Sinatra hosted a party for JFK and Sinatra invited Davis to perform. The JFK campaign asked that Davis be removed from the list of performers because he was engaged to a white woman and would be married to her by the time of the party. The JFK people didn’t want someone in an interracial marriage to be at the party. Ain’t that some sh*t? The JFK people told Davis who could perform if he postponed his wedding to after the party. Loving, tolerant Democrats!

On the flip side, Nixon took a liking to Davis and even invited him to spend the night at the White House. Davis was the first black man to be invited to spend the night at the WH. But ya, know – Republicans are raaaaacists!

          • The Penguin #PublishThatSh*t

Yup, we conservatives are such an intolerant bunch aren’t we? 😉

          • Michelle

I made a comment about his hair line, not his religious affiliation. So the point of your comment is…? LOL HAHAHAHAHAHA

Every human being deserves compassion no matter how small. amount of it. Ah, classic over-correction in a defensive manner to try to “prove” your bonafides combined with a “but you’re worse” retort. Nice try, but you’re still displaying Leftist tendencies.

One tiny problem, Sept: being a Leftist isn’t limited by political party. In my mind, John McCain is no different than Barack Obama because they’re both willing to let the government rule our lives.

The fact you’re willing to abandon the very libertarian notion of preventing the powerful from physically harming or denying the rights of the less powerful tells me you’re a Maher-tarian more than a libertarian. But whatever gets you through the night….

          • septimar

…You clearly don’t know what leftist even means. McCain and Obama are both statists, not leftists.
Libertarianism has two prominent currents: Minarchism (with an i, not o), the belief that there should be a minimal state, and anarcho-capitalism, which believes there should be no state. Everyone who has just the most rudimentary knowledge about libertarianism knows that.
The fact that you resort to referencing irrelevant pundits shows you have absolutely no political education worth mentioning.

          • Thomas, Snarkmaster General

            Ummm… statists ARE Leftists.

        • The Penguin #PublishThatSh*t

Are you Jewish? If you do not practice the faith then you ARE NOT! Just as people of different ethnicities and religions can convert to Judaism. It’s not just because you have a parent (at least your mother) that is or was a Jew. It’s a faith, not a crutch or tool for f*cking liberal assholes. You’re trying to school the wrong person on the subject. pfft.

          • The Penguin #PublishThatSh*t

Your “spinning” outta control now. For a so-called libertarian you’re sounding an awful lot like a….da da da dah… LIBERAL! gasp! say it ain’t so? Look, if you don’t have personal experience in the matter, you can’t really know. Cool? I am made up of 5 different races and or ethnicities. The only reason I could “legitimately” consider myself a Jew is if at least my mother’s both parents were Jewish, which they were, and then practiced the faith. Which I don’t. Upon further investigation after Michelle was so kind to correct me of Matt’s heritage, he falls under neither category. Savvy? Groovy talking with you though.

a jew responds to the claim that only catholics and jews understand monetary policy by pointing out that most of our central bankers have been protestants and the jewish ones actually don’t have the best track record. he copies the tongue in cheek angle of the original claim and states that jews are actually pretty bad at monetary policy.

conservatives are so desperate to point to racism from liberals, to make it seem like racism is a total equal opportunity thing. the rodeo clown is the same as this guy! its the same thing! we are so persecuted!

only highlighting the fact that there is really not much for them to point to.

it you guys want to point out racism from the left, it isn’t that hard to find. it just isn’t going to be this overt.

    • Thomas, Snarkmaster General

Sorry, but you’re wrong. Remember Howard Dean’s comment about Republicans and blacks?

      • AmericanMorsi

nope i have no idea, but being reasonably familiar with howard dean i have a pretty good feeling it wasn’t racist.
also, that’s not really a great response to anything i said.

the reason you guys have trouble pointing out legit racism from the left on a regular basis is because comes it forms that you would deny are even racist. you think its just people being oversensitive. we’re on like step 6 or 7 racism, you guys are like step 4.

        • moot

Is it level 6 or level 7 where you see racism where it doesn’t exist? I’m not sure because I haven’t gotten that far yet. (Only level 4…frowny face)

well, consider the article i’m responding to here. okay sorry i mean you are basically right.

I find it funny how Howard Dean calling blacks race traitors is not racist but wearing a Ogasm mask is.

    • FilnerGropey

If you idiots want to call us racist then give us proof or otherwise shut up forever.

conservatives are so desperate to point to racism from liberals, to make it seem like racism is a total equal opportunity thing. the rodeo clown is the same as this guy! its the same thing! we are so persecuted!

You’re right. The Left defined the rules of racism and every so often, the Left falls short of it’s ridiculous standard for what constitutes “racism” or some other “-ism”. That shouldn’t motivate Conservatives to embarrass themselves by accepting the Left’s standard by pointing their fingers and saying “Ah, ha! You’re the real WAYCIS, Not me!”

I agree that the racism of the Left is more subtle. Tim Wise has written about racism among White liberals and how they are completely cognizant of it. During the 2008 campaign, White liberals said, without any sense of self-awareness, that they support Obama, in part, because he “transcends” race and doesn’t seem “black”.

“Fixed it, since not racist. @mattyglesias Turns out Blacks actually have a pretty bad record as Presidents. Stick with Whites.”

    I like that one.

Hiring standards in the media seem to be less stringent then your average Mc Donalds.

Nothing comes out of slate, salon or similar Liberal cesspools that is not filled with bigotry, race baiting and other crap. This specific idiot is special though.
