WaPo writer: ‘Baseless’ Rolling Stone blowback is product of ‘tedious outrage machine’

Citizens from across the political spectrum are understandably disgusted with Rolling Stone’s glamorization of terrorist Dzhohkar Tsarnaev. But as the Washington Post’s Erik Wemple sees it, their anger is merely “the output of our country’s tedious outrage machine.”

Here’s are two of Wemple’s “counterpoints” to those who “baselessly” object to Rolling Stone’s cover:

*This is good journalism, as the photo depicts the same Dzhokhar Tsarnaev that The Post and the New York Times — and others — depicted in deeply reported pieces. That is, a regular, good guy with friends, interests and activities — a “joker,” even.

*Showing this alleged bomber in his full humanity makes him appear even more menacing.

The amount of White Guilt displayed by the liberal press in the last week has been astonishing.

    • D-dubs

No surprise here, they teach this in college campuses across the nation. Just imagine what the next generation of “journalists” are going to be reporting on……

    • trixiewoobeans

Some call it White Guilt, I call it Pandering. Either way, it’s revolting and obvious.

    • rinodino

lol, yet you guys claim it’s everyone else that brings up race…….. Why bring white guilt into this story? Why mention race? As you guys like to say…..maybe because you are truly the ones obsessed with it!

      • Mekadave

Are you that dense? It’s brought up because that’s what they’re doing.

        • rinodino

????????? So white guilt for a white terriorist?????????!!!! you people are so insane, I swear I’m on another planet.

          • Mekadave

No, you lefties have an overabundance of White Guilt. Try harder to keep up and work on your reading comprehension. It helps.

          • The Penguin

            You are…Please go home now.

          • TocksNedlog

            We’d swear to it, too.

      • ObamaFail

It’s not about white guilt. It’s about a leftist rag glorifying a terrorist.

        • Bathing Suit Area

Remember, showing a picture of someone is glorifying them. Got it.

      • Billie Slash

Clearly, you don’t know the meaning of the term “white guilt”. Its strictly limited to liberals. Conservatives don’t feel guilty about being white & successful.

      • Jimni27

trollololol. Dino you never cease to amuse me. Between you libs wanting Trayvon’s friend to become a talk show host and thinking that a Tiger Beat style cover of a terrorist on RS is no big deal yet thinking conservatives are out of touch….oh hell just keep it up- you’re precious.

    • Billie Slash

Amen. Talk about a “tedious outrage machine”!

At some point in the future, testicles will no longer exist and people will have them velcroed on for looks…kinda like what they do with the back of pickup trucks today.

Yeah the White Guilt is all over the place.

Wemple – Al Qaeda is hiring, why don’t you fly over there an apply?

    • templarwd

Why ? He can easily get a job as Al-JizeraUSA’s NY corrispondent.

      • Right Wired

shhh! we want him to leave the country

  • LinTaylor

You know what this reminds me of? The people who began fawning over the Joker after “The Dark Knight” came out, entirely because of the late Heath Ledger’s amazing performance and his good looks. Never mind that he’s a murdering, anarchistic terrorist psychopath who wants to set the world on fire for a laugh, because he’s so cute underneath that makeup and Glasgow smile, he deserves to be worshiped.

    • ObamaFail

The difference is that Joker is fictional, and all of his victims didn’t really die, because it’s just a movie.

      • LinTaylor

Never said it was the same, just that it reminded me of that situation.

    • DefCon99

People went gaga for Ledger’s Joker, because he was the first to bring the character’s humanity out. Ledger’s portrayal of a serial killer was haunting.

      • LinTaylor

Quite true, it was a hell of a performance. But there were also people who practically fetishized the character as well, and even tried to claim he was mistreated by the mean ol’ Batman.

    • Bathing Suit Area

Who are these people, who I’m sure really exist?

  • Spinmamma

No, it’s a result of the tedious leftist stupid machine.

Today the output of our country’s tedious outrage machine relates to the above Rolling Stone cover about Dzhokhar…

Good one, Erik Wemple. Here I thought that today’s output of our country’s tedious outrage machine relates to the same tedious outrage we’ve been enduring all week regarding some legal verdict people didn’t like. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that Erik Wemple is projecting.

At least point to some examples of outrage in the tweets…

It glamorizes him. It turns him . . . actually, there’s no point in summarizing the objections. Why not just skim Twitter for 1.5 seconds and find multiple representative samples:

    [posts tweets by and about:
Twitchy’s Carson Daly story about RS’s irresponsibilty
Michelle Malkin’s “not dreamy enough?” comment and link to Twitchy re: Jahar groupies getting outraged
Today Show saying 90% of viewers think the RS cover goes too far
Shawn Ryan tweeting that RS shouldn’t give Jahar iconic status]

Okay, never mind. You’re apparently too lazy to think and write at the same time.

  • Marcy Cook

    Yeah, what this guy said:

    Matthew Donahue

@ErikWemple dickhead. We have a saying in boston. GFY. Hope you never experience something like this. The article was shit anyway.

  • Jack Deth

You cannot convince me that goofy, dorky looking, crew cut Erik Wemple is cool, edgy or hipster enough to read Rolling Stone. Unless he has a copy of Maxim open and laid out on top of it.

  • TDS

I guess he’s still pist that Osama bin Laden didn’t make Time’s Man of the Year back in 2002…

  • The Penguin

To put this out there is just disgusting. But to defend it is absolutely heinous! This takes it to an even lower low. It’s basically a big middle finger in the face of the victims, the victims’ families, and the people of Boston…that their loss and grief is inconsequential. Sick!

  • ceemack

Next from Erik Wemple: “So why SHOULDN’T Time Magazine have dubbed Hitler “Man of the Year”?

  • Love of Country

Personally, I’ve been a big music fan for 40 years and yet the only couple times I’ve ever purchased Rolling Stone magazine was when my friend Darrell Abbott (whose views outside of music were not always my own, RIP) was featured in the magazine …. that’s it And even then I held my nose.
Beyond that, this communist rag ain’t worth the paper it’s printed on …. believe that!

  • ObamaFail

Instead of putting some band or musician that no one listens to that could use the buzz, Rolling Stones decides to give some hero worship to a terrorist. Good job liberals. you guys always find a way to stoop lower into the gutter of human garbage than people could ever imagine.

  • beebop1952

This is who the left is. They don’t care one fig about the unborn or the mowed down. It’s all about the coolness, baby.

  • stuckinIL4now

Isn’t it the libturds who created and still own that “tedious outrage machine”?

    • Bathing Suit Area

So now you’re saying that “you didn’t build that”?

      • stuckinIL4now

Like I said–libturds refuse to own it.

  • http://discus.com yourmamatoo

Put Zimmerman on the cover, and headline it , justice prevailed.
Wonder what the hypocrite would be saying then?

  • TocksNedlog

“the output of our country’s tedious outrage machine”
    — Is he confusing the RS cover with the anti-Zimmerman protests?
Zimmerman: found not guilty = “Cue the outrage!”
Tsarnaev: admitted guilt = “Your outrage is tedious.”

  • DefCon99

I don’t like the cover and I had a discussion about it with my son who gets RS. I will wait to read the article and see if it’s crap or not.

  • mainelysteve

That “tedious outrage machine” has worked for you assholes for years. How do you like a little of your own medicine?

  • Bathing Suit Area

    “Tedious outrage machine”

I think Twitchy’s ears are burning!

The left has had hissy fits over much less, almost constantly. The minute right, or sane , people find something offensive, it’s “tedious outrage”

And really, “Wemple”. Use a pseudonym dude.
