Can we get a rimshot? Bette Midler envisions alternate history if forefathers had assault weapons

Ba-dum TSHHH!

That’s gold, Bette … gold!

Midler wouldn’t mind that one bit.

  • Steve_J

I know she means that as a joke but a joke has to be based on some aspect of reality and nothing in her tweet reflects reality. It would help if she knew the reason they were call Minutemen.

    • twinx

      Hey, don’t harsh Bette’s buzz!

  • V the K

The prevailing “wisdom” on the left seems to be that as long as you are allowed to own one gun and one bullet, your 2nd Amendment rights are intact.

    Memo to Ms. Midler:

Get some new, fresh material, for Christ’s sake!

That idea was wondrously detailed and explained in Harry Turtledove’s ‘The Guns of the South’.

Where a contemporary South African goes back in time and delivers several hundred AK-47s to Gen. Robert E. Lee and his Army of Norther Virginia.

    • CatHerder

Loved that book! It was several hundred thousand though, and the Army of the Tennessee got them too.

      • LinTaylor

One of my favorite books too. :) I’m not sure what would piss off the average Lefty more, the book’s premise of the Confederacy with assault rifles, or the fact that it ends with the South ending slavery in a more fair and equal fashion than Reconstruction ever was.

  • not_retired

    Bette Midler banks on twitchy.

    • WilliamAmos

Twitchy keeps an eye on Hollywood because for far too long they have been attacking conservatives and getting no reaction. A little light exposes the truth at times.

      • ICOYAR

Just pray that this site gains more attention in the future in order to damage the credibility to leftist types with their lies and gaffes.

      • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

        And it hurts their eyes and heads! Those Liberals are gonna need a LOT of OBamacare (I was gonna say Aspirin or Ibuprofen…) XD Jawamax 8<{D}

      • VerminMcCann

Speaking of which, during the past week, I’ve been blocked by both Jason Alexander and Roseanne. It’s been a good week.

Libturds don’t understand that EVERYBODY in those days had access to weaponry comparable to the military. Muskets may be more inaccurate and slower compared to modern rifles, but they didn’t need to, because that was what they had back then. Libturds obviously didn’t realize that the Japanese REFUSED to invade the mainland of the United States, as they KNEW that citizens had nearly unrestricted access to the standard issue weaponry as the military, and were TERRIFIED that there would be (correctly) a rifle sticking out of every bush.

Of course, the number one argument I see online by libturds are due to them being scared of everybody owning nuclear weapons, but then they don’t realize the cost for them, most people don’t even KNOW how to activate one or use it properly, they don’t even KNOW how nuclear physics work, and they don’t even KNOW how to even obtain one to begin with.

    • Blake Waymire

Libs also don’t know that there were privately-owned WARSHIPS in that time. No men-of-war were in private hands (they required tremendous crews that few private owners could afford at the time), but there were a lot of private frigates. And yes, those ships were used to attack the Royal Navy, usually in small raids or in conjunction with the French Navy.

Yet if you stuck a fake cannon on a sailing yacht, libs would want to have you prosecuted.

  • Derek Penner

But if you do think about it, if our forefathers had assault rifles, then we would’ve routed the redcoats in less than 2 months. We wouldn’t have needed the French for military support, we would’ve become a superpower before the end of Washington’s 2nd term and expanded our borders beyond the continent and acquired colonies overseas due to our superior military might.

    • V the K

Yes, but would we have health care?

Many of the Revolutionary Army had Kentucky and Pennsylvania long rifles. They WERE the cutting edge in long range accuracy. Essentially they were the assault weapons of the day. When the 2nd Amendment was written, it was taken for granted that the citizen would have access to up-to-date weaponry.

      Tell IT TUGS!!

      Tell IT TUGS!!

    • Hiraghm

Look at it from the other end; The Marquis De Lafayette smuggled into the colonies 100,000 Brown Bess muskets… standard issue, state of the art firearms, used by the British regular army.

    • Jay Stevens

“They WERE the cutting edge… ” Agree.

” Essentially they were the assault weapons of the day.” Disagree.

“When the 2nd Amendment was written, … ” Agree.

Disagree because “long range accuracy” and “assault rifle” are mutually contradictory terms, but an up arrow for the sentiments.

  • TJ

It the Revolutionary Army had assault rifles so would the red coats of the British army. Up to the time of the first shot they where all subjects of the British Empire and had the same muskets and canons. When one side won the battle they would collect the weapons and then use them.

    • Hiraghm

Doesn’t matter. They would still have used the same tactics. The body count was so high at Gettysburg because they were still using Napoleonic War tactics with much more accurate firearms.

  • waterytart

There was a time, years ago, when I actually liked Bette, and Barbra for that matter, then, they got famous and began to equate fame and fortune, with intelligence and leadership. Sad. Doesn’t make you smarter girls, just means you have a bigger stage.

  • FFlintstone

Liberals really get caught up on the term “assualt rifle”. I don’t think half of them know what it means. Maybe we should take a page of the liberal playbook and just call it something else.

Global warming became climate change when everyone realizes that it’s fake. The IRS’ systematic targeting of political enemies is “bad customer service. Hassan didn’t commit terrorism, it was “workplace violence”.
From now on assault weapons will be know as “women’s health defenders”. Those will never be outlawed.

    • SR5150

No, “global warming” became “climate change” because so many people took the phrase “global warming” at face value or literally, thinking that all it meant was that the planet was warming-up.There is much more to symptoms of climate change than just warming of the planet. You’re letting your ideology dictate to your logic.
You do, however, make a great point about phrases. In lefties view, there is no such thing as good-vs-evil. So, they change evil acts to less threatening names to make everything more touchy-feely.

      • Jay Stevens

hey change evil acts that they are in favor of to less threatening names to make everything more touchy-feely.

Can we have a vacation from Midler’s insane tweets. Easy for a well off celebrity it speak ill about a country and history to afforded her a great living while minimally talented. Only in American do we make millionaires out of characters who live in fantasy land by profession.

    • el_polacko

she’s wealthy because people enjoy her singing and acting but i do agree that twitchy needs to give it a rest with her political views…nobody really cares.

  • HARP2

    THIS….Coming from a half-wit ?

  • TocksNedlog

For a second there I thought she was talking about her husband.

    Gee, Bette, what a wonderful imagination! Here’s one better:If the Colonist Rebels had the modern implements of War (Tanks, Planes, drones, bombs, and Nuclear Weapons…) They would be a HEAVILY SCRUTINIZED REPUBLICAN/CONSERVATIVE ADMINISTRATION… Right? Jawamax 8<{D}

  • ligersaurus

Maybe in an alternate history, Bette Midler might have been intelligent or entertaining.

  • NRPax

I have honestly never understood why so many liberals like her think that the colonists would have been horrified with the kind of weapons we had today.
