Words are hard! ThinkProgress attempts to prop up Obama; Beclowns itself instead

Side-splitting! A joke, indeed.

ThinkProgress took to Twittter to whine that the Sunday shows didn’t spend any time on President Obama’s “landmark” climate change speech. You know, the one in which he referred to anyone who disagrees with him as “Flat Earthers.” What a uniter!

Landmark!

Words. They are so hard.

Eww-snicker.

Heh. Now? Thanks for the giggles, ThinkProgress! Again.

There’s “landmark”. As in very important, moving and of its time.

There’s also “landmark”. As in the grand opening of a gas station or supermarket.

Trying to spin” WTF! Are you out of your freakin’ mind??!!!” third world, dictatorial boilerplate lunacy into something “historic” is much more attuned to comedy than
    opinion making or news.

  • Stone Bryson

And yet Think Progress would have screamed to the rafters if these programs would have taken even one second away from the deification of Wendy Davis to cover this ‘landmark’ speech.

They should really consider taking ‘think’ out of their name.

    • Mary Lee

Also… “progress.” That part’s inaccurate, too.

      • Stone Bryson

Very true Mary, but in case any ‘progressives’ stopped by and read my comment I didn’t want to confuse them with multiple points. Thinking is hard for them, after all…

Yeah but they THINK they’re going to make PROGRESS some day.

  • irishgirl91

It was landmark in that it told us absolutely that he planned to kill this nation and any chance we have of recovering after he leaves office. He officially turned out the lights and said Good night ‘Merica.

Hmmm, maybe that’s why Gub’mint News didn’t carry it.

Maybe he’s not planning on coming back….one can hope. But until the rest of the treasonous infested WH is vacated it would do little good. Since Valerie Jarrett who BTW thinks Eric Holder is doing a wonderful job and is the best AG ever is actually the president anyway she will also need to be going on a $100 million dollar one way vacation to make any difference.

  • Clete Torres

I think they mistook the terms ‘landmark’ and ‘jump the shark.’

    • Andy from Beaverton

I fear that Obama won’t officially jump the shark for two more years.

      • $1692758

He may have jumped it last week with his coal mongering hate speech. The man never seems to run short of threats to take out jobs, he’s very good at job killing. I guess he does have a talent after all.

  • ObamaFail

Obama is planning on damaging the coal industry, an action that will cause job loss and skyrocketed energy costs which the low wage earning American simply cannot afford. That’s not landmark. That’s just typical Obama. It’s typical of that idiot to come up with policies that do nothing more than harm Americans in some way and make the cost of living go up on the poor. If Obama decided to resign after admitting that he had no intention of helping America and his sudden burst of guilt over that fact led to him resigning, then we could call it a “landmark” speech.

    • Adela Wagner

The following is from a 20102 article from Watchdog.org concerning the loss of jobs and secondary jobs due to the closing of coal mines. I live in Southern Ohio and this has made my monthly electric bill go from 30-35 a month to 88-94 dollars a month. (we heat with wood). It is so sad to see so many put out of their jobs along with their bills “naturally skyrocketing” to quote Dear Leaderfrombehind.

“… Regulatory actions by President Barack Obama and
his appointees and followers were cited as the entire reason. “Mr. Obama
has already destroyed 83,000 megawatts of coal-fired electricity
generation in America,” said Mr. Michael T. W. Carey, Vice President of Government Affairs for Murray Energy. “Electric prices in the recent PJM Interconnection monthly auction were bid up 800 percent (8 times) for 2015-2016 because of this,” he added.

“At its peak, OhioAmerican Energy Inc. employed 239 local people in high-paying, well-benefited jobs,” said Mr. Stanley T. Piasecki,
General Manager and Superintendent. “University studies show that our
Mines can create up to eleven (11) secondary jobs in our communities,
for store clerks, teachers, etc., to serve our direct employees. Thus,
if one uses the eleven (11) to one (1) multiplier, the Obama
Administration has destroyed 2,868 jobs in eastern Ohio with this forced
      Mine closure,” stated Mr. Piasecki.

      • $1692758

Talk about destroying the middle class. Liberals have effectively eliminated any way for a high school graduate or less to earn his way into the middle class. With manufacturing and energy destroyed there are no other ways to enter the middle class easily. Not everyone is cut out to go to a liberal arts university or has the book smarts or money. Obama is clueless and has zero empathy for the hard working poor. Now they will all be on benefits and fearful slaves of the government that owns them. He has no alternate energy plan and the ones he flushed millions of dollars into have all without exception failed. A virtual money laundering exposé to funnel money to his supporters. Crickets from the media…

In the 70’s & 80’s the liberal left was screaming “New Ice Age”. When that didn’t happen and the sun’s cycle was reaching it’s peak, the “New Ice Age” theory was called junk science. Then the new buzz words became “Global Warming”. When that didn’t pan out, it became a “misnomer” and junk science. Now it’s “Climate Change”, which is pretty good because the climate is always changing. Hard to disprove that. Wonder what it’ll be when, as the sun’s cycle continues to wind down, and things change again? To those wondering why I posted this, read RMFitz’s comments and everyone’s refutations of his silliness.

Here’s the problem with climate “science”: there has never been a single climate study paper published that has had peer review of its data as well as its method. Not a single one.

Instead, you have climate scientists who:

    1) Are the ONLY ones with access to the actual raw data. Their peers do not have access. The raw data is never published.
    2) Use unpublished and undocumented procedures to manipulate that raw data into processed data.
    3) Publish papers that ONLY use the processed data.
    4) Directly profit from climate fearmongering.
    5) Have actively attacked any scientists who believe the climate changes are natural.

I have an open mind that man MIGHT be responsible for global warming. But the climate scientists refuse to publish their data, and they refuse to submit to peer review. Until those things happen, I refuse to be bullied into giving them more money and power.

  • Paladin

Exactly! One has to go no farther than the scientifallacy acclaimed documentary “An inconvenient truth” which lays out the ironclad argument with real life data supporting anthropogenic global warming.

Man, that hocky stick graph is sure scary!

  • Lowfibass

Oh but I beg to differ. Please google it for yourself.

And while we’re talking about industries, bank rollers and being convinced,
turn on one show on Discovery/History/News channel, that doesnt propagate this global warming THEORY as fact. Or any childrens programming. Its pure propaganda coming straight from all the usual sources. Directly where you get the line “There is over 99% agreement among climate scientists that human activity is causing the Earth to warm. ”

Its not me who’s been “convinced” of anything.

You can start here. Yeah I know its wiki but the sources are sited and THAT’S where you should start.

Project much on the whole politicization of things??

This would be the same NASA who is also heading up the Muslim outreach right? Cause yeah, they are certainly non partisan under this or any other administration who’s keeping them funded.

At one point in time there were alot (not all mind you) of scientists that jumped right that band wagon. Hell its politically correct and why not get some of that sweet sweet grant money??

Things have changed since it was made public that a lot of the data it was based on was falsified. You know…the hockey stick graph, placement of thermometers, climate models that predict what they are programmed to predict, etc. Of course that gets conveniently ignored.

When I was young and in school all of our weekly readers were warning us that all the pollution in the air was going to bring on the next ice age and acid rain was going to melt everything. Now we’ve ludicrously switched that story from warming to climate change. Anything to keep it rolling. Oh no!! The weather is changing!!!! Really?

Believing in global warming/climate change is no different than someone believing in God. You can’t prove it but, you dang sure know it exists cause what else could possibly explain the weather being so…unpredictable?

  • http://www.black-and-right.com/ IceColdTroll

I will ask again two simple questions:

    1) What one event predicted by the Anthrogenic Global Warming Hypothesis has occured? And when I say “predicted” I mean “before it actually happened,” and not post facto explanations. Such a prediction should be reasonably well-defined and unambiguous, and there should not be equal numbers of predictions for the exact opposite occurrences. (In other words, none of this “Global Warming means snow is a thing of the past/Oh, but Global Warming can also mean MORE snow, too!”)

    B) What is the dispositive data set for the Anthropogenic Global Warming Hypothesis? That is, what set of conditions or occurrences would obtain in order to disprove the AGWH and accept that manmade activity is having no measurable effect on the climate of the world? This should be relatively to come up with, as a dispositive data set is one of the FIRST things scientists do when formulating a theory or designing an experiment. Of tthe 2, this is the far more important, because the lack of it is virtually a per se admission that you are not doing science at all.

    I’ll wait.

    It’s not from a survey of 77. It’s from a literature review.

Incorrect. The 97% claim regarding scientist’s support of AGW came from a badly formed survey from Doran and Zimmerman.

“In our survey, the most specialized and knowledgeable respondents (with regard to climate change) are those who listed climate science as their area of expertise and who also have published more than 50% of their recent peer-reviewed papers on the subject of climate change (79 individuals in total). Of these specialists, 96.2% (76 of 79) answered “risen” to question 1 and 97.4% (75 of 77) answered yes to question 2.”

Question 2 being: “Do you think human activity is a significant contributing factor in changing mean global temperatures?”

but it’s a method of understanding if there is consensus, among other things, in a given scientific field on a given issue or question.

Real science: hypothesize, gather data, test and then confirm/change the hypothesis based on the test results.

Climate “science”: hypothesize, gather data, test, then throw out/change data that doesn’t fit the hypothesis. Get your colleagues to support your claim and pronounce that “the science is settled”.

You’re right, ariscrubbers on coal towers and other Fossil, erm FREEDOM FUEL burnin’ factories are just Liberal bias!!! Why can’t we have less job-killing EPA regulations, like china??? http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/29/asia/gallery/beijing-smog

  • KayGee

they politically aligned people to space and back with all that junk science, or might it be that all those space ship launches are actually STAGED by the gov’t!!! conspiracy!

  • KayGee

I can see why you hate alll those Job killing coal scrubbers, we could be breathing in PURE FREEDOM like china does, they don’t have all those hippie-enviro-friendly coal scrubbers, and you can see it right there in their air! Look at all that freemarket air quality! We shoulda nevr put them in, so we could have cheaper energy with all the freedom-smog we can choke down! http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/video/2013/jan/31/chinas-smog-wreak-havoc-video

Oh SNAP to Fitz and his tantrums!

  • AMSilver

China’s pollution comes mainly from burning biomass – which means people cooking their dinner over fires rather than using electricity. Heat that derives from electricity sent over wires is cleaner less polluting than heat that is made by burning wood or other materials. There simply are too many people in China who don’t have access to the electricity and appliances they need to be eco-friendly.

  • KayGee

Yes, because the green energy industry has SOOOOO much money built up from decades of ridiculous profit margins, and are entrenched in a battle with newer, more efficient technologies that they need to be lobbying against to keep their sales up and the public misinformed???? missed the point on that one, you did.

  • trixiewoobeans

Oh well, win a few, lose a few! SNAP to me!

  • http://www.black-and-right.com/ IceColdTroll

Still waiting: dispositive data set. THAT is the first step.

  • KayGee

Cooking fires? Really? Granted that ANY large-scale fires will contribute to the overall air pollution, china is not that under-developed. Try unregulated emissions.

so you’re relying on Limbaugh’s expert opinion.

Actually, no…what I posted was from the survey itself. Did you get your info on it from MediaMorons?

And consensus *still* =/= science. #LibLogicFail

  • mike_in_kosovo

The consensus that warming is caused by human activity is seen in the thousands of papers published in peer reviewed scientific journals.

The ‘consensus’ during the time of Galileo and Copernicus was that the Earth was the center of the Solar System.

    Coming to a point, eventually?

Let me guess, you work with your hands for a living.

Incorrect. Don’t give up your day job (if you have one) for the Amazing Kreskin act, you suck at it.

  • jloe

“tedious and technical” tells me its a stretch of a debunk. but like i said. hard to debunk an email stating which data they would use.

as long as there’s been an epa, i believe we’ ve had limits on carbon emissions. its their job. paying a penalty does nothing for the environment’s “dire” condition. it just raises money for the corrupt.

about a year ago a volcano in iceland erupted. do you think iceland’s icebergs are melting cuz of volcanos in the area or from coal plant in kentucky? if its the coal plant, why are antartica’s ice masses growing?

  • mike_in_kosovo

Some scientists in the past were wrong about something so all scientists in the present are wrong about something.

Why do you think that a consensus *now* is somehow different?

Tell you what – why don’t you explain just WHY, if CO2 is such a powerful amplifier of temperature, temperatures have been flat since 1998 while CO2 has continually risen?

Since you don’t work with your hands and you obviously don’t work with your mind

What’d I tell you about that Amazing Kreskin act, skippy? I’d say the fact that I can so easily demolish your arguments proves the relative disparity in brainpower. Even that goldfish you mentioned earlier outclasses you – it, after all, can be taught. All you can manage is regurgitation of whatever talking points you’ve seen.

  • mike_in_kosovo

Even if temperatures have remained constant for a decade (a claim I’ve not heard elsewhere

    http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/hadcrut3vgl/from:1998/normalise/plot/hadcrut3vgl/from:1998/normalise/trend/plot/esrl-co2/from:1998/normalise

The fact that you *haven’t* heard about it shows that you really don’t know what you’re talking about. You just regurgitate whatever you read last on MediaMorons.

even some wingnuts admit temps are rising but deny human causality)

Yes – those “wingnuts” have looked at the historical data and seen where, for example, the Medieval, Roman and Minoan Warm Periods were all as warm or warmer than modern temps. They’ve seen where the atmospheric CO2 levels have been many times that of todays…even during ice ages. It’s called ‘natural variability’…unless you somehow think the Romans were driving SUV’s around Italy a couple thousand years ago.

using that as “proof” that CO2 levels don’t influence climate is the equivalent of those morons on “Fox and Friends” using a single blizzard as “proof” that the earth is not warming.

Actually, I think I’d call comparing 15 years of data the equivalent of a single blizzard ‘moronic’.

Do you hold the same contempt for the idiots everywhere ELSE claiming any heat event is proof confirming AGW?

Oh, and speaking of morons? 1998 was 15 years ago, not a decade.

“Short, cherry-picked trends”…like comparing 150 years to millions of years for the purpose of determining just WHAT causes temperature change? Using a 30 year baseline from 1950-1980 as the measurement of what the “baseline” temperature of the world should be?

Funny how you couldn’t come up with anything else in rebuttal, though. You’re hereby charged, tried and convicted of being a idiot…and that’s an insult to honest idiots everywhere.

    As for mention of SUVs…
Well, what OTHER reason would there have been for the Roman Warm Period other than Roman SUVs, according to your soi-disant “experts”? It’s man-made CO2 that causes temperatures to rise, remember?

(Yes, I’m making a very silly example to rebut a very stupid “theory” – it’s all you can seem to grasp)

Second attempt at grammar question: Why do lowbrow types like you insist on turning a plural – SUVs – into a possessive – SUV’s? You all do it.

Second desperate attempt to obscure the fact that you have no rebuttal, you mean?

  • mike_in_kosovo

And there’s the third attempt…. lame, and even worse, incorrect, since home-schooled kids score higher on standardized tests than their public school peers.

  • mike_in_kosovo

    Shorter RMFitz: “Squirrel!” (fourth attempt)

  • mike_in_kosovo

You have a politically-derived opinion supported by a carefully curated set of evidence on a scientific issue for which there should be little to no room for opinion.

No, that’s you. My opinion is formed from and supported by a preponderance of evidence.

And that’s the fifth attempt. You’d think with all that ‘consensus’ you could come up with something to rebut.

  • mike_in_kosovo

And there’s 6. Must suck when your evasion actually describes your OWN position instead of your opponent’s.

    To wit:

Me: historical temperature record, historical CO2 levels and natural variability.

You: But but but….”Consensus!” (and lame ad-homs)
